Anyone watch Game of Thrones?

I swear I've never watched a show where I wanted a character to get brutally slaughtered so much as Game of Thrones with Joffrey.

Hell, yes. They found the perfect little shit for that part. Kid's unfortunately going to go through life as the actor everyone wanted to see whacked.

It's also really, really rare that they'd kill off the #1 main character. I mean, Stark was really the main character all through Season 1 until they chopped his head off. Incredible.

I finished the 5th book last week and I highly recommend it, it's one of the best series I've read.

It's excellent, the books (at least the first three) are the masterpieces of fantasy literature. Original, witty, exciting, realistic but magical at the same time, all the stuff that popular fantasy authors like Ted Williams and Robert Jordan will never be. The TV series took the books to the heart and were done perfectly. I would recommend it to anyone with all my heart in both its forms.

The only problem is that the author of the series, George R.R. Martin, has been stuck in some kind of a writer's block and, after publishing the not so great but still awesome 4th book (Feast for Crows), took almost 7 years to write the 5th (Dance of Dragons). The 5th book, despite all that waiting and rewriting, ended up extremely weaksauce, with almost all of the major and interesting characters dead, and the remaining ones stuck in indecisiveness and private fantasies and dreams. Nothing happened throughout all of its 1000 pages, there were a billion lame new characters (who also get killed) and new cliffhangers, and it was a major disappointment.

So while I love both the books and the show, I fear for its fate when it reaches Season 5. Both because the source material will become shitty, and because the 6th might not be ready by that time.

Maybe they'll rewrite the later seasons? :o

Wait the seasons are by book?

There are 5 books (out of projected 7), so there is enough material for 5 seasons right now. Or rather, 6 because book 3 (Storm of Swords) is huge and is unofficially split into two parts, so season 3 will likely follow suit and be either two seasons or have extra episodes. So far I'd say the series have been fairly faithful to the source material.

Just saw the first episode of season 2. This is really great television, and the closest to man porn without being porn.

I just fear there will be no closure anytime soon, as in the next 4 years.

The acting all around is great, but Joffrey really shines. You believe he is a little boy king spoiled by power. I loved the sound he made when he mom slapped him. Little bitch.

Just started watching Game of Thrones the other day. Awesome show, and this is coming from somebody who doesn't watch television hardly at all. Tyrion (the midget) is a brilliantly developed character. My brother read several of the books and said they're really good.

Awesome, particularly the dark, disturbing ending which I can't divulge right now so not to spoil anything! If there was ever an incredibly well-done CGI, that was here...

p.s. feminists are up on the internet predicting that women will stop watching the show due to Joffrey's sadism... bullshit, right?

Yeah that's bullshit, though he's not the kind of charmingly, dominant sadist that gets women excited. Just a nasty piece of work with few redeeming features. Though the reason is that he was never taught to be a man of honour.

I love the Joffrey character and the way he is played, the actor is incredible with that cruel, self-satisfied half smirking gloat.

I picked up the second book after watching the first season. Well worth it. It lags in parts and the writing isn't always tight, but the plot moves forward at a good pace and the story gets more compelling as it gains momentum. Brilliant character development. It's a good complement to the show.

Yesterday's episode was sick!
Only thing I don't like is that hey have such a limited quantity of episodes each season to show all the character development.
So many different story-lines going on that the amount of content isn't justifiable for such a glorious show.

Great series. HBO diverges from the books a bit, but it makes the basic story much easier to follow.

Scary part is that there were probably sadistic kings like Joffrey in the past.

Haven't been able to catch any of season 2 yet due to my useless frigging ISP screwing up my connection. 6 weeks to transfer an internet & phone connection from 1 apartment to another in the same building in this day and age. Fucking ridiculous. This is first on my list of torrents to rip when I do get my internet finally come mid may.

Finished watching Spartacus: Vengeance. Now that is a great series. Blood and Sand, Gods of the Arena and Vengeance all great seasons. The sex and violence in Spartacus makes Game of Thrones look extremely tame.

not to derail or anything, but with the popularity of this show more girls are reading the books. I was sitting on the "boyfriend chair" today at a clothes store. cute blonde sits next to me reading. "is that a good book" talk for a few minutes, her boyfriend comes out glares at me and says "lets go" she turns back and says you should read it and smiles. given more time I could have number closed, my girl was taking so long in the changeroom. I just went off and talked about the characters and the popularity of it. one good thing about popularity is that you don't actually have to follow it to know anything about it,.

Joffrey is the man. That scene made my wiener feel funny. I'm rooting for him and his hot freaky mum.

Don't be so vanilla man [Image: tongue.gif]. He has it available 24/7, and i don't get the feeling that the little psycho is all that interested in plain old penetration. Actually, i was afraid that they would do a "confused little boy's first sexual experience" scene, this is so much better and in character. I'm just hoping for something in the same line, but with the Queen.

It's not about pussy, it's about ultimate power.

Best line of the episode, Tyrion is awesome:

"Braun, the next time Ser Meryn speaks, kill him...that was a threat, see the difference?"
