Finally got my ARC card that will allow me to set up a bank account, but most importantly get a PHONE this week!

I think the longest I can stay in Korea is till January.

I saw a few white guys approach some females but they werent able to keep the convo / interaction going for more that 5 minutes.

This place is tricky. Gaming here is a different beast, something I am not use to AT ALL.

They do, but it's more of a smooth thing. For instance, guys often go in packs and girls in their own groups. It's easier to open up their set with your cool friends, and keep them entertained. Girls almost never go out alone in Korea. What the guys do is work them in a aloof way, then making out in a 노래방 before bringing them to a DVD방.

K-girls are really conservative. They pick a "manly" korean guy over any cool foreigner 99% of the time. Given Koreas rough past, people ar e very nationalist and protectionist. I don't agree. You can ride a cab for 30+ mins paying less than 10 USD. Logistics is never a problem in Korea. However the parents thing is true. You are correct. However, think about how good you'll get in the long end.

My tip is to hedge your most valuable, depreciating nightlife asset (time) by also approaching foreign model chicks. Although some of them live together in apartment hotels, they are easier to fuck than k-girls, and look hot as hell most of the time. Model guys in their entourage are either gay, latino assholes (neutralize them quickly) or cool as hell and make good wingmen.

Guys and girls do not "hangout" together for the most part. So mixed sets / groups are a rarity. And 90% of the time if you do see a mixed set they are a couple or family. So you are correct about the genders traveling in packs. I have yet to see any k-guys "gaming" females. They tend to just drink & dance with their set from my observations.

30 min cab ride for 10 bucks?!?! Maybe spitting it 2 ways. I live about 30 minutes from the Haeundae Beach which is one of the main party zones and the cab is like 25 bucks. There is a reason why tons of Koreans bring their bookbags out with them to party. Hell instead of having places to store your coat they have bookbag check-in's. This is in Busan, not sure how common it is in Seoul.

I wasn't very impressed with Busan from a cosmopolitan perspective. It feels like a slumbering village more than the big city it really is. However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but for that big city vibe with party, shopping, flirting etc. I think Seoul will feel very different when you go there. I think it's like 50'000 by train if you go, and won't take more than 3,5 hrs. You could probably crash at Jimjilbangs, but by all means book a hotel. I had a good Korean friend and everything that I could gather from the society and culture, plus what I heard from a couple American teachers living in Seoul that I met in Thailand, made it sound like a place I wouldn't really want to spend any time at, let alone live in.

OG beat me to the punch on this. Dash, instead of Thailand or the Phils why not do a recon to Japan and try to network into a teaching job? The pay might not be as good, but put it in perspective. If you're not happy in Korea now, you probably won't be 6 months into it. I've been to both countries and the only thing Korea has I like is Kimchi.

Either way you're not gonna get rich teaching, but what you can gain in Japan would make up for it.
