Suit Game Summer 2013

Prosal, I think you may be missing it or maybe I am, but I believe those were well-natured digs at el mech since he's, well, a mechanic and also a respected member plus has no problem with women.

I do agree that hate is not a good thing to see on this forum, especially for something as simple as clothing. In the end, you can look try-hard and uncomfortable in anything, all one has to do is train themselves to get rid of that uncomfortable mentality and apply what works, and discard the rest. Since you obviously do wear suits, you doubtless know the power of wearing one and maybe even tire of it after a while. Some people would like to feel that power all the time, or don't think of a suit as an obligation.

Its just like dresses and women - some women think its a mark of the patriarchy and of being uncomfortable to wear a dress, heels and makeup and some relish it.

I don't think so. Vorkuta righty pointed out earlier on this thread that "the suit propagandists seem to be very defensive" and that "if you say they (the suits) are unnecessary they seem to go on the attack", which was also my feeling.

Mechanic aside Im a hot weather person. These summer style threads come up and it's obvious nobody here knows how to dress when it's hot out. The pics on the first page of this are the gayest shit ive ever seen in my life then we have the Gmanifesto saying Miami is suit weather in June.

My objection here is voice of reason for the other members who maybe impressionable enough to pull some gay shit like on the first page.

Never said that squeaky.

In fact, I have been very clear that I have never been in Miami in summertime.

Although today is June 1st. And Miami is nice and cool today.

Suits are perfect at night from October to the end of May in Miami.

It is ok El Mech. You have just had a heavy dose of feminine brainwashing.

Keep reading the forum. I have hope that you will be cured.

------

Bottom line, it is really stupid to argue about suits on here.

The guys that wear suits out at night are rolling to higher end places in A Grade cities.

The guys "who feel like losers", "who feel so insecure" and "don't feel comfortable dressing like a man" are rolling around D Grade cities, and Walmart parking lots.

That's it. It's just different levels of The Game.

Now lets keep this thread positive about Summer Suits, fair enough?

Doesn't this really come down to when and what you're wearing? There is no way I would wear a suit during the day in Flordia when it's above 85 degrees. Unless you're going to a meeting. I think people wear suits when they are going to a place, not for day game.

So, if you're in Miami in the summer or whenever, presumably you are driving to the venue or taxi. So there is a/c. Inside there is a/c. If you bounce somewhere they will have a/c too. You just won't be sitting outside unless it's maybe midnight when it has probably cooled off enough. Just speculating here bc I have not done this but it doesn't seem too crazy.

It was swimsuit weather. I went swimming, 80 degree water.

Never talked about wearing Suits during the day.

Tonight however, I may, it rained and cooled off.

Last night was wearing slacks and a blazer.

Feel better?

Miami in the summer is a pretty extreme example.

I wouldn't do that.

A place like Montreal in summer however, is perfect weather for Suits. Last summer was usually 80 during the day and about 65 at night. I think only one night all last summer I felt a little hot in a jacket. And I went out 4-5 nights per week for 4 months. Not bad at all.

Go to the high end spots there and plenty of cats are rocking Suits in summer in Montreal as anyone familiar with the high end scene there can attest.

It is a pretty sharp dressed city.

A few of the suits posted here look really good, the majority I don't like and think they're ugly (simply because of the colors, pinks, yellows, oranges, purples, etc., the materials, the bow ties, but that's just personal taste, I'm sure some could make them work), but some like those pink shorts with blazers and the guy in the very first picture just look stupid, I can't see why would anyone want to wear that.

Two months ago I had to attend a daytime funeral and it was pretty bad, soo hot. The stares you get from wearing a suit more than make up for it though.

That reminds me that I should start wearing suits more often, the only problem is having a reason to. You can't really wear a suit to Publix can you?

Dolce & Gabbana and D&G are two different qualities and fabrications, a bit like Georgio Armani v.s Armani Jeans (but Georgio Armani being of MUCH better quality that Dolce & Gabbana).D&G is a cheaper (but still outrageously expensive regarding the quality) product of doubtful quality that is usually sold in multi-brands stores, as Dolce & Gabbana is solely sold in the brand's stores or in corners. That said, Dolce & Gabbana is a pseudo-luxuous brand (or a brand of pseudo-luxury) that is WAY overpriced and of very average quality (which can also be said for Versace), which gives you an idea of what are the D&G products.

Anyway, be it D&G or Dolce & Gabbana, all their suits are half-fused, ie a low-quality partially glued fabrication. As Kerian rightly said earlier on this thread, if you buy a suit or a blazer go for the fully canvassed stuff, anything else is el cheapo shit (or expensive shit in the case of D&G/Dolce & Gabbana).

Talking about quality, I'm rather surprised that noone talks about it in this thread, as if the simple fact to wear a suit was enough to be " sharp dressed". FYI, most pret-à-porter brands (Boss, Kenzo, Ralph Lauren, Armani, Paul Smith and many many others) make half-fused suits that are in fact of poor construction and of poor quality. A quality suit is necessarily canvassed (Pal Zileri, Zegna, Brioni, Canali, Corneliani, Kiton, ect come to mind), and sorry, you are not "sharp dressed" with a fused or half-fused suit, but only a try-hard faker.

Agreed. I mentioned this on another thread. I pretty much wear nothing but Hedi Slimane's Saint Laurent Paris, or Dior Homme, both of which only produce suit's and blazers with floating canvas. Once you become accustomed to them, you can't go back to fused.

I've also experimented with having blazers custom made in BKK. I'm only aware of two tailors in BKK that offer floating canvas (Narin Couture, and July Tailor). I tried using Narin Couture. The jacket came out fairly well, but came to around £700 due to my choice of fabric and request for floating canvas (and a few other details), so I might as well pay the £1250 for Saint Laurent and have some minor adjustments made, because the styling and fabrics are so much more interesting.

That said, the fact is that not everyone can afford canvassed stuff. No, in fact, to rephrase, few can afford canvassed stuff, which is why there are so many fused/half-fused garments on the market.

Suit Game Summer 2013

This is sort of a Mini Data Sheet and Boston Power Style report. Interesting that is was 97F in Boston on Friday and Saturday, got to love that Miami heat - brought all the summer dresses out in full force! It was made clear to me on my current contract with a Fortune 1000 that Friday and hot summer weather is now Jeans and Biz Casual weather. So I was wearing a 2XL (Really is any grown man as skinny as these designers Boy Toy Models???? - Nice Threads but not the typical American Power Suit look) anyway I wore tropical notch side untucked short sleeve light blue summer shirt flat no tail meant to be worn untucked that is, black jeans, polished black casual slip-ons with sox and a well worn Boston Red Sox cap that has seen two World Series Championships plus my Honolulu Oakley thermo nuclear protective optics excellent for simultaneous seeking hot sexy ladies sonar and radar recon.

As I have stated before the New Boston has seen Billions invested with many more billions to go in the Seaport and adjoining Boston innovation district. I managed to get 5 Major Deliverables completed and rewarded myself with some after work socializing. Began at the New Water Front Intercontinental hotel, sort of a huge ugly glass palace on Fort Point Channel but has an interesting Latin Themed Rumba Cocktail Lounge in the large lobby that features only Rums and Champagne - not a bottle of Grey Goose in sight - they built a very cool 2 acre back patio on the Channel right near Boston Harbor which is now quite clean with Kids diving off the new Gas Lantern Bridges into the channel and swimming over to the Boat Docs to go again with no one bothering them (All cops busy with 5PM Traffic flowing into the Big Dig Tunnels) the street level above the Big Dig Tunnels is now the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy "Greenway" named after JFK, RFK and Ted Kennedy's mum. approx 3 mile long well manicured gardens and walking paths run from the Harbor side of Boston Channel walking distance from the "Boston" TD Bank North Garden and North Station through the North End all the way to South Station.

What was once everyone's back servant's and deliveries entrance is now their Front Entry with the Palms having built out a giant round bay addition to International Place with outdoor seating over looking the greenway. Back to the Intercontinental Patio Bar "Rumba Lounge" patio - very Miami modern pastel Latin with the wait staff outside dressed like sexy Cruise Attendants with tight rack flattering cotton Tops and Royal Blue skin tight Capris - I ordered a Bombay Sapphire Gin and Tonic in a tall glass filled with Ice and a Crushed Lime - perfect for a 97 degree Boston evening was still around 90 at 5PM. The financial district is walking distance with John Hancocks new Offices a dozen non descript low key $1.5 Trillion Fidelity Mutual Funds building not to mention many others like State Street Global and Wellington Capital. They guys getting out of work wore No Tie summer weight trousers and Button down Oxford Shirts of various patterns. They Mention one 6 ft 4 guy wearing a Wool Suit (No Tie) and were surprised in the 9)+ heat. The predominant look for guys with Condos and Apts nearby now changed before unofficial "Happy Hour" Boston being the liberal epicenter of all things politically correct with Medford's NYC Mayor Bloomberg following close by in his ancestral villages Liberal foot steps - Happy Hour is illegal in and Banned in Boston so with will have to just call it Thursday and Friday after work Social Hour. That said the predominant 90F+ casual power look was long Oxford shirts starched, untucked, shades, no lids and high end Yachting Sperry Topsiders - old money Boston/Newport Power Yacht look - with one of our Power Guys casually mentioning he had the keys to a friends Mega yacht (he pointed out) anytime we might need a romantic rendezvous point - i.e. high end bang pad - floating no less - just have to leave the tank full!

I ran into some power players networking and they were interested in a couple of my projects so we will see. I was was further emboldened by a young Lass Snow White Skin Sapphire Blue Eyes and Fire Red Hair - she was getting a drink and I opened with "You have the map of Ireland, Scotland and Norway all over your face!" She quipped NO Finland! (She was clearly Old Line Boston Scots Irish a good thing as I love that Snow White Blue eyed Red hair look ... of course she immediately opened with what do I do and I said Cyber Security and I then asked What keeps you occupied in Boston, She replied interesting question sort of like an Ink Blot Test - she said she is in Wealth Management - the Power Guys there said oh yeah the Wellington Capital management people all come here - so I offered to buy her a drink and she said Well I have a tab open why don't i buy you a drink - so it being 2013 and she clearly using her Wellington Cash I said sure and had another Bombay G&T. Then the high level shit testing began but I must say it was done with style and flair which I expected in this venue - I said I have several business plans I am networking on and I could see her go from warm prospecting mode to cold see u later mode - Plans implied I am raising cash and have not already cashed in and am not about to place $100M with her in a capital management scheme - she said she primarily did Oil and Gas and do quite of bit of investing in Fracking ops. As a side she was thin and flat chested like a marathon runner and dropped the BF word which was bull as these ladies had the recon radar out but still a bangable 7 especially if you like high class big money babes. Her two lady friends were 6s so my Power Guys wanted to recon the rest of the new Boston Seaport district so they hopped next door to Smith and Wolenski's Fort Point steakhouse waterfront bar across from the Federal Reserve bank of Boston. I followed after my attempts at networking with my Russian Oil and Gas contacts were met with immediate dismissal and hostility to anything Russian - odd really considering there is $535 Billion USD surplus reserves sloshing around Moscow from 15 years of supplying the energy needs of the EU and others. She actually got a bit nasty and said I do not "network" I do not do Facebook and I do not do Linked In!

At that point I wished them a lovely weekend and met up with my power guy wing-men at S&W. Nexted the high class nasty red lass. Ironically she wound up alienating some serious wealth that I was socializing with (Beacon Hill Townhouses and Weekend Homes for Golfing on the cape) but very kool guys that I may be able to close some biz with.

One decided to get his SUV and drive over to the Seaport Hot spots because it was to hot to walk, I put $20 in his hand for the Parking fee at the new Boston Convention Center Parking lot (large multiple acres) and we hit DelFriscos (noted for Italian Seafood and Cougars) then a Mexican restaurant across from Salvatore's and then there was a line to get into some sort of Wine affair in Legal Seafood's new Seaport Rooftop Lounge overlooking Boston Harbor with now 85F breezes blowing through and the sexiest collection of Ladies within a 2 Mile radius - met two young 25 27 yr old lasses who were very sweet at their own table who drove in from high tech route 128 - so seaport district now a Metro magnet with the Waterfront Music Tent (Seats 10,000 plus) and dozens of high end and family style restaurants and high end $750K to $2M+ water view condos and apartments going up still. Most of the seaport equity funding provided by Fidelity to clean up the region for their 7,000 or so workers in town. After my contract is over and no more weekly deadlines this will be my new networking spot Summer Fall and even Winter. Oh yeah how do I know my new contacts were power guys - they walked right up to the door man stamping people for access to this Wine Social event and whispered and few words and we all three were stamped and sent right up with no wait - clearly had the place locked. Boston "bulldogs" women are not known for their Beauty like NYC, Miami, Vegas and LA women - but surprisingly there was a full selection of 7, 8, 9 and 10's networking in Mega Trillion Dollar Boston Financial and High Tech innovation Districts new after work Playground - rated right up their with Moscow for me and the ladies all spoke flawless English. Go figure.

Basically NONE of these spots are on any Tourist guides to the best martini bars and cougaramas in Boston either. Most of the lasses we met were in their fertile mid 20's too - not too many old dried up wrinkle necked sea trouts either!

Will have to settle for kittens versus cougars then for the time being [Image: wink.gif]

Thanks JL - not too hard to write when surprisingly well motivated. Been lurking mostly lately as been too busy with this 60 hour a week contract and other projects I want to focus on and network in Boston - networked with another casual guy with the Sperry Topsiders yacht look and his own private Hedge Fund at the local Cigar Sports lounge watching the Bruins last night and he is reviewing a couple plans for me. Was a resident CEO for turn around companies at Bain Capital and was recently on the board of a Solar Panels manufacturer here but now focused on his hedge fund - had a $100K plus day last week when the S&P futures and Elliot Wave theory stars lined up right - no sell in May and go away for him - makes more money the more volatility there is in the Markets - and plenty of volatility with EU and Asian ongoing sagas. You would never know this guy was loaded from looking at him - still uses blackberries and no flashy rolex etc - big difference between real old money cash - and - nouveau flash.

3. appropriately sized knot - check
4. dimple in knot - MISSING
5. general color palette - check
6. ratio of shirt sleeve showing to jacket sleeve - We will accept it

Thanks for the evaluation. Speaking of dimple in the knot, what's a good way to execute this? I still haven't gotten the trick down. As far as the sleeve showing, I know, I still need to get it tailored. I may pass by today to see if they can fix me up on a Sunday.

I'll give the look 7/10, good job.
Just 2 notes:
-I personally don't like the belt, get something less flashy
-The shirt is something that I wouldn't wear but it looks good on you.

Guys, I have a question for you all.
I got my hands on a 100% cotton suit, the color is tobacco green/brown.
I've got no clue on how to match shirt, shoes and tie. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks man. I agree with the belt. I've been meaning to get a new one but I've been traveling and budgeting the last half year, so whenever I have gotten the money I've invested it in something I thought was a bit more important. finally got a decently solid job, so I may actually even go get another belt today, thanks for the reminder. Any suggestions besides the belt on how to boost the 7/10 to a 9/10?

Suit Game Summer 2013

BTW for the budget/younger players on the forum, this suit was relatively inexpensive. I'll give you the break down...

The jacket- $100 from H&M. After I bought it I saw it on GQ on the list of something like "5 best suits for under $400."

Shirt- Originally $70 but I got it on sale at Express for $45. I was looking for that solid purple I was talking about above, but I couldn't find anything that I really liked. I saw this shirt and decided it would look good.

Pants- $30 at H&M. Shit quality, but they look good.

Belt (Which I agree with Way Cool Jr, I need to change)- $50 Armani Exchange

Shoes (Not pictured)- $150 from Aldo

Watch (Not pictured)- $250ish, Nixon Player

Tie- $25 at H&M, but for budget ties I recommend thetiebar.com

Pocket Square- $15 at Nordstroms, though I also recommend thetiebar.com for squares as well.

I'm also wearing a pair of no-show socks, which I think look good for a summer suit, $10 for two pairs at Urban Outfitters.

Total $700
Keep in mind though minus the watch (which isn't a necessity but definitely recommended) it only comes out to $450, and you can definitely get some nice looking shoes for under $150. When you pay for quality though they will definitely last longer. Even $150 isn't suitable for long lasting quality, you looking at more of a minimum of $350.

Though everything added up is a little pricey, it's really nothing relatively. In a couple years I hope to be able to afford some dope custom suits, but for now I have to stick to a decent budget. I'll drop maybe $3-400 at the moment on a suit from J crew, but I can't afford (Or maybe not really willing to spend) a whole lot more than that. Just a note that you don't have to spend a couple grand to look decent.

I just copped this yesterday. Thoughts? I know I have to still get the jacket tailored but minus that, I think it's looking pretty sharp.

1. Spring colors - check
2. bold check - check
3. appropriately sized knot - check
4. dimple in knot - MISSING
5. general color palette - check
6. ratio of shirt sleeve showing to jacket sleeve - We will accept it
7. pocket square - showing a bit much - we will accept it
8. crooked house cue - *consults committee*
9. use of two tone - check

Nicely done. All that's missing is a slimmy on your arm.

WIA

InternationPlayboy smooth look, not my steez (really just the shirt), but I would give a "Game Recognize Game" nod to a cat dressed like that for sure.

WestIndianArchie, good breakdown.

A cigarette would make the look complete.

Also, watch the Red Wine with those white pants.

Stick to Vodka Sodas.
