There is other ways to look fashionable and refined, and also to look like you have money but are not obsessed with it, than to wear a suit. As an exemple, for an evening date in Portofino, in Cannes or in St Germain des Pres, you will be much more creative and elegant with this 800 € cashemere and silk Cortigiani cardigan or this 2200 € (still Cortigiani) leather jacket than with any suit you can think about. IMO this little "je ne sais quoi" chic touch, which allows to be refined without overdoing (wearing suit), is inborn among frenchs and italians, but is an enigma for most americans. That said, as usual, to each its own. We all have different tastes and different strategies, and I'm happier and more successful by sticking to mines.

That leather jacket looks like mafiya gear. In your second set of pics some of the outfits make the guy look like an elderly dad. They're expensive but hardly anyone, man or woman, will pick up on that outside of very specific circles.

I used to hate suits and now I'm always looking for excuses to wear one. I have more pocket squares than pockets.

It's the external projection of the power already within me, not a way to cover up insecurities.

I don't see too many of these outfits being business oriented so I don't know why that is being brought up. I also don't know why wearing summer suits is being lopped into vacations.

As for trying too hard, that is bullshit. You are on a forum that revolves around getting pussy. I can say that you are putting pussy on a pedestal just participating on this forum. We talk about many things to raise our value like money, clothes and exercise. All of those are in the context of getting more and better quality women on this forum.

Let's face it, pussy is a important aspect in our lives. Biology made it so. You wouldn't be here if it wasn't the case. You are more than welcome to get fat, wear shit clothes and eat at soup kitchens. Some of us would rather not.

Who said we're dressing to impress girls? What ever happened to wanting to look nice for yourself? It just so happens it's a bonus that women enjoy a man that can take good care of the way he looks.

Whatever floats your boat. Personal tastes is something that can't be contested. And we all know that women (and especially in FSU/EE) are highly attuned to dressing style and that being well-groomed is deadly effective. I have said many many times that in Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, ect, (as in almost everywhere in the world for that matter) dress with refinement and style and you'll literally pushing girls off of you.

But isn't this thread about "suit game" (ie dressing to impress girls) ? .... I just pointed out that overdressing (i.e wearing suits when you don't have to) is just as bad as underdressing. Dressing up is a babe magnet just if you don't look like you are trying too hard ....and wearing suits out of your professional obligations is trying too hard. Never understood people who wear business suits to clubs, it just screams out "the guy with little taste and no creativity who tries hard to play the big fish in the pond" ...women, and especially those who are the most refined and smart, are not naive and also know that.

There is other ways to look fashionable and refined, and also to look like you have money but are not obsessed with it, than to wear a suit. I don't think the OP was trying to specifically target wearing suits to impress girls. When he says "suit game" I'm pretty sure that he just means suits that look good for the summer. There's usually a difference between wearing business suits and wearing a fly suit out of GQ. Most business men dress like shit. How many business men do you see dressed like the men on this thread? I don't see many and when I do I think, "Damn, that cat has style, game recognized." It gives a positive impression to most people, men and women. If you know how to dress well, you'll look better than 90% of business men. If you're dressing up like the typical business man when you go out, there's a reason suits don't work for you. If you don't like dressing nice, that's all good, but no reason to bash on guys who like to take care of the way they look. I think you're mistaking "trying too hard" with looking good because you like to, not because you feel obligated to. I personally feel great dressed in a suit. I don't care what haters think. As far as EE women go, I'm not too concerned considering I've spent a whole 0% of my life there, so I'm not dressing to impress EE girls, or any girls necessarily for that matter. The pictures you posted may look good for old man style, but who wants to look like an old man?

Yeah, I rock a pair of Navy pants with it. It looks good with the navy buttons and I also rock a navy tie with it sometimes. I think I'm gonna hit up a pair of those cream colored slacks too. It compliments the jacket well.

This does look awesome. I think I'm gonna go cop a shirt like that today and rock it with the jacket I have that's pretty close to the same color. I was trying to think of what kind of slacks to wear with it. I'm thinking a cream color would go well. Either that or a pair of slacks the same color as the jacket.

I have always loved when dorks on here say wearing suits is "trying too hard".

Wait, isn't working out, "trying too hard"?

Isn't making money "trying too hard"?

Isn't improving in sports "trying too hard"?

Isn't traveling to other countries "trying too hard"?

Isn't brushing your teeth "trying too hard"?

Yeah, motherf*cker, I am "trying too hard".

I am trying hard to be the best I can be.

What colors/patterns do you guys like for the linings in suits? I saw some cool suits the other days w/crazy paisley patterns for lining inside pockets and on the inside of jackets.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

That's pretty much the same thing I was thinking. I thought a big theme of this forum was being the best man you can be. I'd much rather try too hard than not try hard enough.

That is all up to you. The only time another person will see the lining or collar felt is when the jacket comes off and hits the floor or when you reach into the inside pocket.

So go bold. Etro linings are dope. Ted Baker is much cheaper and does good linings. If you order custom from a place like Indochino then you can choose.

Here in the civilized world, there is no difference between "business suits" and "suits". Here, 99% of the people who wear suits because of their job dress as "the men on this thread" as you say, i.e trendy suits. Quality vary of course and depends of the financial means, from 300 € for total shit - fushed suits - to 3 000€ for Brioni masterpieces. Talking about quality, I'm rather surprised that noone talks about it in this thread, as if the simple fact to wear a suit was enough to be " sharp dressed". FYI, most pret-à-porter brands (Boss, Kenzo, Ralph Lauren, Armani, Paul Smith and many many others) make half-fused suits that are in fact of poor construction and of poor quality. A quality suit is necessarily canvassed (Pal Zileri, Zegna, Brioni, Canali, Corneliani, Kiton, ect come to mind), and sorry, you are not "sharp dressed" with a fused or half-fused suit, but only a try-hard faker.

Hmm. Since when a fit cardigan is an "old man style"? ...Cortigiani is pure Italian trendy chic and highest quality material and construction. Indeed, it seems that there is an abyssal fossa between the two sides of the Atlantic ocean when it comes to fashion. Anyway, to each its own, and I hope for you that when you will be "an old man", you'll have the financial means and the taste for such things.

As you challenge me, let me answer you that even for dressing casual I solely buy the best quality. You can dress nice without wearing a suit. I feel very elegant with a simple 500 € Cortigiani black turtleneck pullover, stylish italian jeans, and 700 € Westons. And as we talk about accessories, I am curious to know what all the "sharp dressed men" wear as shoes, watches, ect. I was laughing when I read on another thread that someone bragged about the "Prada loafers" that he just bought ..... Prada is a brand that, for its shoes, sells licences to anyone, with as a result average quality with fabrication in China (usually only the montage is made in Italy, so they can stamp "made in Italy"). For the shoes, most brands sell their licence by the way, with as a consequence low or average quality products .... I personally wouldn't feel "sharp dressed" with this kind of stuff. I wear ONLY shoes from recognized manufactures using traditional shoemaking techniques (like Weston). Same for the watch. A "sharp dressed man" needs a accordingly fancy watch, don't you think so? ...you can't pretend to dress sharp if you wear a 300 $ shit at your wrist, or if you do, you are just a try-hard faker. I might not dress in suits out of my work, but I wear a 7000 € mid-level watch (IWC Ingenieur Mission Earth) and plan to buy soon the new 18 000 € Bulgari Octo Quadri-Retro Chronograph. I also wear high-end optical glasses like Dita or Barton Perreira (600-700 € glasses). I have spoken for myself here, but I'm sure that many guys here ARE refined and elegant WITHOUT wearing suits. So please don't say that someone "doesn't care of the way he looks" or (well you didn't say that, but some did) that he is "insecured" (which is one of the most stupid I have ever heard) just because he doesn't wear fucking suits outside of his professional life. FYI, I wear suits since I began working for CB Richard Ellis at 21yo, and I'm now 46yo, still in the high-level real estate investments business, and do wear suits 45 weeks/year (well in fact more 35 weeks/year now that I run my own company and can afford long vacations) ..but wearing a suit to go to a club or a bar, or for a date ? ...it's simply ludicrous.

I've also experimented with having blazers custom made in BKK. I'm only aware of two tailors in BKK that offer floating canvas (Narin Couture, and July Tailor). I tried using Narin Couture. The jacket came out fairly well, but came to around £700 due to my choice of fabric and request for floating canvas (and a few other details), so I might as well pay the £1250 for Saint Laurent and have some minor adjustments made, because the styling and fabrics are so much more interesting.

Narin is a great choice. He makes fully canvassed suits/blazers, and is with Rajawongse the only one in Bangkok from what I know (I have never heard of July Tailor, but thanks for the info). It's true that most Bangkok tailors don't, which is a killer for me. He made two suits (with his own Zegna textiles) for me a few years back, exactly in the style/cut I asked for. If you bring your own textile, price for a suit is around 300 €. If you choose his own highest quality italian imported textiles like Zegna or Corneliani, price can, as you said, go up to 700 or 800 € for a blazer and 1000 € for a suit. With mid-range british textiles, it costs around for a suit 500-600€. The job takes two to three weeks and requires three try-on.

He also makes quality shirts, from 50 € for the cheapest and up to 140 € for the highest quality cottons.

July Tailor is apparently the tailor to members of the royal family, but I heard better reviews for Narin so I decided to go there. I also had shirts which I agree are excellent. I can't really wear off the rack shirts at all as even slim fits are huge in the waist and back for me, so I plan to have many more made in various styles when I return.

I'm sorry but this guy doesn't look well-dressed or masculine at all.

Nick Wooster is a far better example of an old guy who dresses with style, and while most of his photos are of him in a suit (yes, including one with shorts and a blazer on), he does dress more casually from time to time.

Fair enough, I agree ....in fact I tried to point out to the suit propagandists who endlessly have repeated on this thread that people who don't enjoy to wear suits on vacations were (quotes from the thread) "haters who don't like dressing nice", "insecure men who deep down are girls" or a "trailer park set", who surely weared "Teva sandals and glittery Ed Hardy shirts" or "mechanic overalls while trolling the local K-Mart parking lot for white-trash girls", and who were "more than welcome to wear shit clothes and eat at soup kitchens", that all their assertions was simply embittered nonsense BS (to stay polite), and that one can have no desire to play the big fish in the pond by showing up in a club wearing a suit, but still be refined, elegant and wear expensive clothes and accessories (and maybe even more expensive than what all those so-called "sharp dressed guys" themselves wear).

About the cardigan, I personally like it and beleive me, you notice at 10 meters that is upper-upper-end quality. The most chic brands are not those that are the most garish.
