Yes, the earlier you get it done the higher the chance of a 2nd procedure.

I skillful surgeon will keep that in mind the first time and not extract too many donor hairs

A skillful surgeon is just a skillful surgeon. He cannot predict your balding pattern which is almost never linear.

Say you get it done at 23 and when you are 27 the non transplanted hair starts falling of at a rapid rate and your donor are thins out. You're stuck then.

Google swiss-lace base wigs on youtube and you'll be amazed how natural they look.

Does balding bother most of you guys enough to wear a wig? I'd never consider it. I like my look and hair, I'd just prefer a regular hairline. Bulk up and go the Vin Diesel/Jason Statham look and chicks dig it. Don't look like Moby.

It's beginning to bother me a lot more as I am getting older. I thought that I always had thin hair; however, when i look at my pictures from 10 years ago, when I was in my early 30s, I think wow, what a mop?

So, my hair has thinned a lot in 10 years. In the last couple of years, I have been keeping it really short, as well, and that seems to help a little bit, but the bald spots and receding is becoming more of an issue. I think that you can look good with a bald head when you are still young, but as you get older it may or may NOT play as well b/c also, maintenance of muscle tone becomes an additional issue, and I work out nearly every day, but as I have been getting older, I have been losing muscle tone... and I keep thinking my gosh, this whole package is only going to get worse, so I better treasure what I have while I have it.

10 more years, and I'm pretty sure there will be additional deterioration.. This deterioration is inevitable and happens to everyone (yet some people tend to stave it off better than others, but I imagine it becomes a lot of work).

Actually, I was jogging a few days ago on Venice Beach (which is a Los Angeles suburb), and I saw this guy in his late 60s with his shirt off, and he was totally ripped. He looked kind of homeless, but I could NOT tell for sure.. as guys here may know that Venice Beach has quite a few people who live on the streets. I kind of was kicking myself for NOT asking him his secret b/c he had a body that guys in their 20s work their asses off and do NOT achieve such definition.... anyhow aging issues and body deterioration seems inevitable and the combination of features can really transform a guy in a negative way.

So, in that regard, a wig may be a good option for me.... but i am NOT taking any actions, yet.

My hair is receding a little in front, but it's not so bad. I keep my head shaved, and I look fine with a shaved head. At this point I don't feel I need it, but if I follow the same pattern as just about every single other man in my family, I'll be pretty damn bald by 35, and at that point I would maybe consider the hair transplant.

The best surgeons wont take on patients at such a young age due to what you mentioned above.

They'll instead put you on propecia etc until you are older.

Even so, when transplanting, they will start with the hairline and work back from there since the crown is a tricky area to get coverage on, and also because a strong hairline gives you the best cosmetic look. With this in mind even 1 ht when done right can be effective even if there is further balding afterwards.

Re: Wigs - Most people looking into HT's tend to do it because they want a result where they can set and forget, rather than having to worry about something like a wig for the rest of there life.

For people with minor balding an HT is a far better option.

For those with more aggressive balding it is definitely a case by case thing but most have donor supply upwards of 7000 grafts which would allow for good coverage across the whole head including the crown.

Don't ever get me started on finasteride and rogaine. Both those drugs are ridiculous.

For people who are balding but still have substantial hair try RU 58841. It maintains well without any extra growth.

Are you saying that Finasteride and Rogaine are more powerful than RU 58841 in that they cause extra hair growth and RU 58841 does not?

Finasteride is the generic name for procepia. Fin is mostly used along with rogaine and both of them together are powerful.

However Fin could wreck your libido,rogaine could wreck your skin. Both the side effects aren't worth it.

RU58841 does not have so many side effects. However if you are substantially bald it will not help you

Just curious if anyone has taken aggressive steps to deal with hair loss. Mine isn't so bad, I do use generic Rogaine and try to keep a tight haircut. But the bug of an idea to do a hair transplant popped up today. I am sure it will pass. I would be more inclined to do it, if I had 99% certainty it would turn out well. I would hate to have it turn out bad since my hair issues are along the hairline and not in the back or on top of my head so it would be more visible if it turned out bad.

My hair is thining out badly, but not receeding. I have been taking propecia for about 3 years and it seems to have stopped the loss, but no regrowth. I did stop taking it for about 6 months and the loss started again, so im back on it. No noticable side effects as yet.

Im working my ass of at the moment and looking to sell some assets so I can go nomad, then im thinking of going to Bangkok to get a transplant done, hopefully early next year.

I need to do a lot more research though, its a big step to take.

I agree it is a big decision. I do wonder about that medical tourism stuff. Bad hair transplants definitely are noticeable.

Do any of you know if it is possible or worth a doctors time to do a transplant to restore my hairline just a few millimeters forward?

The right side of my forehead is noticeably receded (to me) while the left side has held up well. Id be interested in having my receded side restored to where my left side is. I dont know if it will recede any further since my older brother's hairline is still intact. Would just a few millimeters still run in the thousands?

A few millimeters doesn't seem worth it, just because it wouldn't be noticeable. Look at a ruler. Mine was a 2cm strip across the crown.

I'll second this. I would recommend the safety and results to anyone. It's getting easier to find reputable surgeons. Maybe easier for me, since I live in LA, but my extensive research led me to others across the country, and in Thailand.

Here's my update. Original surgery was on the crown, October 2013.

I needed coverage specifically on the corners of my crown. So far it's been 10 months. Each month the corners that used to be bare, have thicker hair growth. I've kept it fairly short, but now that my coverage is getting thicker, I'm going a tad longer.

I'm extremely pleased with the results. One of these weeks, I'll put up pictures.

Nice results. But you also seem like a prime candidate for this, as your only issue was some slight hairline loss.

I would consider getting a hair transplant but my worry is being unable to shave my head afterwards. The scarring seems to be too noticeable. I guess I'll wait for better technology.

I don't have any visible scarring from my FUE procedure. Nobody has ever noticed that i've had a hair transplant, even when I go to get it cut.

Yeah, but if you shave your head with a razor, then what? My understanding was that the little holes from where they extracted the folicals would be visible. And that is what ruins it for me.

It depends on the skill of the surgeon and the size of the punch they use to extract. The smaller the punch, the less visible the scar, the bigger the punch, that's when you get the nasty looking white dots. Now I have my hair shaved at the sides and back without any visible scars.

Awesome documentation Brisey!

My procedure pics would be very similar to Briseys, except for two things. The doc went deeper into the very front of my crown/hairline to make it more dense. Also, the top of my head was thinning.

I've been on Finasteride for a year now with no side effects. I'm also in great shape, eat well, and have strong testosterone levels.

I would estimate Briseys procedure to be about $10k. +/- 10%. 1500 grafts?
