I have been using rogaine for several years. It irritates my scalp but that is the price I pay for the effect.

I found the following to he helpful: Triple Moisture from Neutrogena.

You can but it at CVS for about 8 dollars. I apply it a few times a day. It helps with the irritation.

I'm not a fan of Rogaine / Minoxidil.

After about 1 year of using it, I was noticing my face looked really bloated. I didn't look myself, then I started seeing some wrinkles pop up under my eye (on the one side that I was using minoxidil)

As far as I know you have to shave the donor area but not necessarily the area where the new hair is being transplanted to (though if it's too long it would probably be a problem)

They dont shave the transplant area? I ask because my hair is thinning but the more it grows out, the less terrible it looks (to a point).

They shave the transplant area as well (sorry I missed this), however some surgeons say if the hair is less than a couple of cm's then it's not necessary. I'm not so sure about this claim though as the surgery is pretty intricate.

Are you on any meds at the moment?

I use minoxidil foam. I do not use propecia. why do you ask?

Upping this thread, I assume technology has improved since 2014-2015. I looked into getting a transplant in Colombia and prices quoted are about 3000$ for the same amount of grafts for the cheapest option. Others will be about 1,5$ per graft. I've found doctors in Cali and Bogota.

I'm still a bit worried about all the talk here how the surgeon is crucial and how your total grafts for donation is limited, so not sure if I will do it here in Colombia. It's hard to estimate how good these guys are here.

Yes the treatments are really worth paying. It ensures fuller growth but takes some months to show complete results. One just need to have patience.

That almost sounds too cheap to be any good, I'd be tempted at that price though.

If anyone wants to get hair transplat, they need to go to Istanbul. $1500-$2000. When you go to Istanbul airport, you'll see stitched up heads all over the place.

When I asked in Italy, they told me that it's around 6000 Euro's.

Earlier in the thread it was stated there are only a few doctors in the entire world that are the best at this work. Does anyone know which doctors? From what I gather, the doctor from Belgium is Bisanga, Thailand = Path, India = Radha. Then there's also a guy in Ottawa apparently. Walter Unger was mentioned earlier in the thread, is he one of the US/CA recommended surgeons? Seems like he is spoken of very highly in this thread and wrote the book on hair transplants, also trained a lot of these others.

But from googling around, I've found some threads on hairloss forums where he is called a dinosaur (because he will only do the strip scar method instead of FUE) and the sentiment seemed generally negative. I also saw a (totally unsubstantiated) rumor that he's the one who did Trump's hair. While it would be cool to have the same hair "lineage" as the God Emperor, I don't necessarily want to look like him.

He has very good reasons for sticking to the strip scar technique, and will still use FUE in certain situations (such as implanting hair on the scar itself if you want to use a 1 or 0 guard and the scar is visible). He is also very conservative in that he will not do crazy densities or move hairlines forward to look like a teenager again, as it is not in your long term interest if you're somewhat young and your balding could progress. Is this maybe why some people are pissed off, because he's a realist and refuses to compromise for money? Or is it something else?

From first hand experience Dr Rahal in Ottawa is excellent.
He is known as king of hairline. The more challenging task is to create a dense natural looking hairline that will last for a decade or two, he is known for that.

Hair loss is a bitch.

I took finasteride for a few months. It completely halts hair loss. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that it was affecting my libido. It might have been placebo, but I'd rather have a hard dick than a full head of hair. So I stopped taking it. That was 10 years ago. I've lost a lot of hair since then - my crown has a significant 'clearing' now.

I experimented with minoxidil in an attempt to regain the hair. No idea whether it works. Applying it is a pain in the ass. It's hard to make it go into the right places, and I hate the feeling you get in the scalp when you apply it. So I quit it after a couple of weeks.

I've been making myself comfortable with the idea of being bald, something that will probably happen within the next 10 years. Built bald guys look decent. I can bulk up. But this thread gave me hope about hair transplants. If my hair loss isn't as radical as I expect it to be, maybe a hair transplant can get me an additional 5-10 years. It looks like hair transplants, as well as hair implants, are not ridiculously expensive in Brazil. From some Google searches it looks like you can get the best doctors - world level - for less than U$10k, but there are doctors ranging from U$2k and above.

Someone in this forum mentioned Toppik. I tried it out and it absolutely helps. If your hair loss isn't too extreme, it will make your hair look fuller. I got the little pump applier as well, makes it easier to apply with more precision.

Im taking testosterone right now and take 1-2 mg dutasteride / day since I already had a receding hairline.

Even with 1-2mg I notice a little more loss than usual which is normal i guess.

I was searching for hair transplant clinics in the motherland and the price is very good. They quoted 1000 grafts on the hairline to move it down half an inch ( I want 1-2 inches), for $CAD 600.

I've done a hair transplant as well. I paid 2500$ for what the surgeon estimated to be over 3000 grafts. They don't count them offcourse so I imagine it's always an estimate. The operation was a lot different than I expected. In top places like Istanbul or India they put 4 people to work at the same time so it can be done in a couple of hours up to half a day. In my case, in Quito Ecuador, it was just one person and at some times two people, so it lasted a whopping 13 hours can you imagine. Very uncomfortable to be in a position like that for such a long time. They only used the back of my head as a donor area and I was shaved completely. It was at times painful as well, but manageable.

After the operation I also had a lot of problems with the anesthesia that was used going down very slowly through my face, meaning that I had swollen eyelids, cheeks, etc. for several days after the operation. So for me the first 5 days after surgery, I couldn't go in public. It took about 11-12 days for the scabs to come off. After that I looked just freshy shaven with short hair, but it does look a bit red so its def not 100% natural. Now, about 3 weeks after, the redness has gotten better and is only slightly visible. It's to early to say anything about results as the hairs start to grow after 3-9 months only. Final completed result after 9-12 months they say.

I'll keep you guys updated. I chose the very economic option and paid for it in comfort and time. It might be worth it, but I can't say for sure yet.
