Brisey,

Thank you for sharing and the pics.

Any chance you can break down how many transplants/hairs you had done?

Cost?

And maybe what you had to do to keep it (maintenance)? I.e. rograine, meds? Or nothing?

Thanks!

No worries mate, here goes:
I have fine/medium hair with average donor laxity. Prior to my transplant they measured the density in 3 points and it was 70/70/100 hairs per cm2.
The total number of grafts was 1599 equating to just under 4000 hairs with the following breakdown:
1 hair 402
2 hair 364
3 hair 648
4 hair 185

I had the procedure in Belgium from a renowned surgeon and the cost was about 6k euros. I'm sure I could have got it cheaper elsewhere but i've seen some awful results online so was extremely wary, infact one of my friends got his done in the UK from an unknown Dr and it looks really shit. It's worth doing the research beforehand.

In terms of maintenance, previously I was on rogaine foam and propecia but I recently changed to a lipogaine (rogaine plus some other stuff) combined with RU58841 due to low test results and a decrease in libido. In addition to this I take nettle root powder, use a hairmax lasercomb, biotin tablets and use regenepure (or similiar) shampoo. I'm getting good results from the RU58841, good looking loser has loads of info on his site but I wrote a couple of posts recently with my experience.

Awesome documentation Brisey!

My procedure pics would be very similar to Briseys, except for two things. The doc went deeper into the very front of my crown/hairline to make it more dense. Also, the top of my head was thinning.

I've been on Finasteride for a year now with no side effects. I'm also in great shape, eat well, and have strong testosterone levels.

I would estimate Briseys procedure to be about $10k. +/- 10%. 1500 grafts?

Looks great Brisey...

Thanks Cap7, very close with your estimations there!

I just had a FUE hair transplant too a month and a half ago. I was quite an advanced case for my age (pretty much bald at 24). If anyone is interested in the updates and pictures:

How long do these transplants last and do you need to take something to prevent the body rejecting the hair?

Hey, guys.

Try minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia) too.

Nioxin is very effective in my experience. Try it.

They are supposed to last as long as that hair would've lasted at the previous location, i.e., the side of your head. For life more or less.

Nothing needed to keep your body from rejecting the follicle root implant.

I had no idea that hair transplants were so effective. Although I don't have pattern baldness, I think in the future as middle age really sets in, getting a receded hairline restored would be a boost.

With TRT, good skin care, and hair transplants as necessary, you can look great in your 50s - see David Duchovny for example.

My hair has thinned a lot this year. I'm no where near bald and my hairline ain't receding (yet) but if this continues, I'll definitely have a patch in a couple of years [Image: undecided.gif]

Anyone ever had any success with thickening their hair? Any shampoos/supplements etc? I doubt my hairloss is genetic. No one in the family is bald and I'm only in my early 20's.

I was considering a hair transplant a year ago due to a slightly receding hairline and balding in the crown. For the receding hairline I simply changed my hairstyle a bit to cover it. For the crown I started using toppik, which worked amazingly well for me.

The first day I used Toppik I showed my girlfriend at the time (who was obsessed with my bald spot) and she dug through my crown and couldn't understand where my bald spot went. For now I think toppik has bought me at least a couple of years time to hold off on a transplant. The only cons I've found are that if it rains it will wash off and if I scratch my head or a girl touches it she will get a black powder on her hands or under her nails (although no girl has ever noticed it that I'm aware of).

I also switched my shampoo to Nizoral, which seems to have slowed the shedding.

I know I will probably need one when I am in my 30s, (if genetics plays out). I will just be getting one done in Thailand. I don't have specific numbers right now, though I have read a lot on it and the price comparisons are good. Like a third or so of the price. And for anyone worried on safety there know that Thailand is a huge hub for Tourists coming for surgery. I even had my wisdom teeth removed in Bangkok for around $150. Not only did the dentist speak English and know what he was doing, he was also aided with 2-3 dental assistants. Something I would never see in Canada while paying closer to $1200+ for the same thing.

Are there reputable doctors who do hair transplants in South America ? Brazil and Colombia have good plastic surgeons but I'm
Not sure about for hair transplants.

^ there has to be. South America is often at the cutting edge of anything cosmetic and I would think hair restoration would be no different

Of course, have to do your research

I also recently chatted with my surgeon again.

Here is a rundown of what is scientifically proven to delay genetic hair loss:

Finasteride..in his opinion the best...as low as 0.5 mg every 2 days.

Rogaine 1 or 2 times a day...anywhere! not just vertex. That's where the drug manufacturer was forced to study the medication.

Nizoral Shampoo once a week leave in 5 minutes

Vitamin D 1000-2000 U a day

Pumpkin Seed Oil Capsules 400 mg once a day

If really desperate:

Laser Hair Comb
Platelet Rich Plasma

Hope that helps

Live in NYC. seen lots of transplants and cousin is a plastic surgeon and have seen his work...never saw anyone who was completely bald look anything more than a guy with thinning balding hair after they got the procedures.

Sure a young guy getting a few grafts to add to his thinning hair will look ok but what happens in 10-20 years when it all goes? The average guy has 5k-6k grafts NOT enough for a full set of hair.

But I have seen guys with good hairpieces.they were models and had that GQ look.

As for propecia...lol. You might go get ED and grow tits. And at one point when you get sick or hospitalized and have to go off it..you will lose it all.

Seriously..Hair Transplants are a scam for most people. If you are blonde with very wavy hair you maybe can get away with it. That is why most models and actors don't have transplants and use other methods.

The only good candidate is someone who is 100% bald so the doctor can honestly admit the truth about how to proceed. But for those who are just filling and wasting grafts on the front be prepared to run out of grafts. I can show you people that this happened to.

My cousin tells them that there will be hair cloning in 10 years NOT TO WORRY...he said this for the last 15-17 years lol.
Quote:Quote:

I had no idea that hair transplants were so effective.

That is because they aren't for the majority of people. Plugs is a good name because it is a temp fix, a plug, for one with receding hair and an inadequate solution for most who are 100% bald.

Also they are also lying about back and side hairs. Plenty of guys as they age lose more back/side hair by thinning out and/or hair follicle measurement getting smaller diameter. Don't believe me? Look at old men(women also).

Imagine how worst it looks when you already have hair taken from the area and how the top looks considering that after implants it was sparse to begin with. Now it is even thinner due to thinner hair diameter.

My cousin trained with this guy...Robert M. Bernstein(Bernsteinmedical) He is considered one, if not, the top in the field. You will notice he is bald, right?

I am not saying don't get them. They do have a purpose but you need to research , research , research. Also need to see REAL people and go though the hair , with a comb,NOT just photos. You need their whole story about their age and pattern of loss.

It is also something not to go on the cheap. Lasik is basically the same no matter where you go, despite what others in the other thread say. It is heavily based on the equipment. Most fuck ups is due to patient anatomy.

Transplants are based both on doctor and the quality of the staff, more than equipment.

Going to a 3rd world country can mess you up because once grafts are loss..you wasted them forever. You want a guy who has artistic ability and most likely your same race..due to subjectivity. Go to a Chinese doctor for a nose job and you will get a Chinese looking nose type analogy.

Most of these doctor's lack the artistry. My cousin among them..that is why he doesn't specialize in them. But he can and has done them.

'Hair Transplants are a scam for most people'

^ I have to completely disagree with you, as someone who has had it done.

Of course, if someone tries to get the best 'deal' possible, travelling to 2nd or 3rd world countries (not that those countries don't have great docs)...all bets are off.

If you can tell that someone had a procedure done...well, that's a bad job. Some guys i've met here were surprised when they saw this thread never imagining Ive had a transplant done. They shouldn't be. A transplant done by someone reputable will look entirely natural.

I was receding and now have a great hairline. Literally the procedure took years off me with no downside other than the cost, which I would rather spend on myself than have in the bank.

I referred a friend to my surgeon...you could say he was bald or near bald. If you haven't seen any impressive cases of guys originally bald then you should see him. Previously just the rim of hair on the sides and some comb over up top. Well, a year after the procedure dude had to start talking down family photos on the wall in exchange for current ones so people wouldn't notice what a dramatic change and start asking questions. Night and day.

A previous post in this thread by myself mentioned my doc encountering botch jobs, etc done by other surgeons who sell the procedure based on follicles and leave the guy up shit's creek if their hair loss progresses over the years. There is an art to it as you said. So your concern is valid but any decent doc will do the transplant in an appropriate fashion. For myself 2400 follicles were transplanted making a huge difference.

That a pioneer in the field hasn't done it himself means nothing. Maybe he doesn't give a shit. My friend's a LASIK surgeon and prefers glasses himself.

3 years out, I still say the procedure is a no brainer IF you look better with hair than without AND you go to someone reputable and you have the cash.

I wasn't directing at you personally. Not sure you understood what I was saying so I will recap with numerals [Image: smile.gif]:

1. They do look natural these days. That is an improvement. The problem is the guy s look like they went from bald to balding with usually a very high forehead and not enough to even style decently. In the rain everyone sees how there is little hair.

2. Often guys(sounds like your friend maybe??) who have NO hair are the most happy since they go from having no hair to having hair. It is a night and day difference and that in itself is a big improvement( same change a guy who is bald goes when he puts on a piece, or a guy with grey hair dyes). But most aren't looking aesthetically like they have a full healthy manageable head of hair. Fact that you do is because you mostly HAVE YOUR OWN HAIR STILL. But I will get to that later down.

Remember the whole procedure is based on the art of illusion. You are trying to make 15k-20k strands of hair look like 80k+(using numbers as an example).

3. Your hair looks GREAT. No one is arguing that. Anyone who has the money can do the same thing you did. After all you lost a little and you are replacing what you lost. As I said the problem with that might come later..depending on your age now.
I don't know your age, i don't know your ethnicity or how many graf's you have on your head total for the future.
If your an older guy..than you probably will die before you have to worry.

If you are in your 20's it WILL BE A BIG PROBLEM. In fact your GREAT doctor might have made a big error because he wanted the work.

Let me explain. It seems you got your way and had him keep your hairline low and even fill in your temples completely. Most responsible surgeons will always try to convince you NOT to do that. But because they don't want to lose money many will go on with the procedure.

By filling in the front with 2400 units ..that doesn't leave a lot left for the other 90% lol.

Again I don't know you from a hole in the wall. I don't care to know you(nothing personal but realistically I am married and in NYC so chances are 1 in a million we would ever meet). I don't know your total follicles available to move or the wave/kinkiness factor of your hair.

Capeche?

I am don't have the specifics about you to make a determination. Your s looks great..but again it isn't hard to replace an area that is small when you have loads of follicles to transplant. And realistically even the great doctors have tons of bad work. Any good doctor would admit that luck of success is partly based on the physical characteristics of the patient and his expectations.

Again I commend you on your decision and results...they look great! But if you are young..please come back here in your 40's and show us how you look after multiple procedures that you get to keep up with the balding pattern. That would be more appropriate display of the greatness of the procedure.

Otherwise it seems to be just trying to keep up with the loss as long as you can...nothing wrong with that approach if one has the money and accept their fate later on. Same as a women living for today by running up debt or millennial's not saving for tomorrow. Again it is a common approach and NOT always wrong.

That's all! Call me an asshole, negative, beta, trouble maker..I don't care! That doesn't matter....artistry goes a long way but science and math is still important. You can't expect to lose 100k strands of hair and make it up be transplanting 1/5 of that. It is mathematically impossible..although a good artist might be able to make it look like 40k strands of hair![Image: banana.gif][Image: banana.gif][Image: banana.gif]

^ Just having a dialogue here no offence taken on my part.

But again, the problems you highlight won't be an issue when going to someone reputable. In that case it's not hard to make someone look better than while preserving enough follicles should they require a procedure down the road.

I would only recommend having the procedure done by someone whose entire practice is devoted to hair transplantation. A plastic surgeon who does boob jobs in the morning and your hair in the afternoon isn't the guy you want to see.

Ok, as a young 24 year old with thick full wavy jet black hair take my advice with a bit of salt however my side business deals directly with this so I have some ideas. When it comes to HT's you can't compromise on price because it is aesthetic and the quality of the procedure depends sorely on the skill of the surgeon. If you are considering this there are a list of doctors you shouldn't look beyond out of which 1 is in Canada, 2 in USA, 1 in Belgium, 1 in India and 1 in Australia.

Also keep in mind if your age is young it will be one of the worst things you can do simply because you will end up chasing your hairloss unless you are already a NW5 or you have unlimited donor supply (Both highly unlikely). It is also worth nothing that the really good doctors like Bisanga in Belgium do not generally operate people under 30. The American distributor of finasteride is facing heavy charges in court because of well documented side effect and rogaine is bad for your skin.

The alternative will leave some of you scoffing but it is amazing the results I have seen with my own eyes. Wigs- Newer technology has skin base, lace base, ultra thin skin etc which is so fine it is almost impossible to figure out there is something on your scalp. Newer adhesive technologies have led to people documenting their stories on skydiving, ski'ing etc with their pieces on.

There are also reports of tech from Japan and India in the trial stages where the hair is injected into the scalp and the process has to be redone every month. If this is true it will be a game changer.

Unless restrictions on stem cell research are removed you can forget about regrowing your natural hair. Interestingly enough the emerging world is heavily pushing for this because this will become a massive industry and getting there first is everything.

Good luck whatever you decide.
