Bigxxx,

Thanks for sharing. I am wondering about the recovery time and how to disguise having anything done. You said nobody noticed. Could any girls tell if they touch your hair maybe 3 weeks after the procedure? I would like to keep this decision to myself if possible.

I don't believe anyone noticed anything. Keep in mind it was my temples and front which was receding and that was transplanted. I combed my hair down for a little while to cover the front. I was worried my temples would be noticed but the few people I did tell assured my they barely noticed anything. 3 weeks after the procedure no worries

If your very bald at the top, I think people would notice something is up for the first couple weeks. If someone called you out or asked a ballsy option would be to casually say you had something done. When you really think about it, who cares.

I don't want to just throw out this stuff but I did hear that scientists are making a lot of progress with cloning these hair growing cells. That sounds really promising.

Can you imagine how many pharmaceutical companies are busy spending $millions on research right now? Finding something that can really stop hairloss and even regrow hair, without serious side-effects, is worth many $Billions.

Yeah, but people have been talking about a cure for years and there is still nothing but Minox and Propecia. They'll probably come up with something in our lifetime but it may be another 20+ years. At least we can look forward to having a thick white mane in retirement. It will be a nice exception to age-related physical decay.

I have a receding hairline therefore I always shave my sides and back and keep the top (it barely even grows) and put a lot of Dermmatch on (works great ...for now!) I know am gonna have to either a) shave it all or b) get a transplant done in the coming weeks.
I ve been thinking of Doctor Rahal (one of the best in North America)...15k ? seems like a lot but then again one is investing in himself...
my question though is that I like having short hair (military style) but my top is balding..., would FUE give me lots of scars?

Nice post.

I used to have a business in the Medical Tourism industry so I have dealt with alot of hair transplant surgeons from around the world.

Whilst the leading surgeons in the world are based in USA and Canada you will find some amazing surgeons in both India and Thailand.

The prices are dramatically cheaper in these countries and you can expect excellent results.

You will be charged per graft when you get a hair transplant. The grafts are harvested hair which are taken from your donor area usually on the back of your head and planted into your balding areas.

The most renowned Indian DR charges $1 per graft as opposed to $4 - 8 per graft in northern america (depending on the amount you get)

The best in Thailand is a little more expensive because he has won several of the top global awards for hair transpant excellence and is considered a world leader.

For someone with only a minor amount of balding 2000 - 2500 grafts is fine....I assume this was around the amount you had bigxxx?

If this is the case overseas the cost would have been $2-4k instead of $15k

For someone that needs alot of coverage 4000 + grafts is usually recommended and often people would need to go back for a second transplant.

I've personally visited some of the Dr's through Asia for work and there facilities are top notch and staff amazingly well trained.

Dr Path - Thailand http://www.dhthairclinic.com/
Dr Radha - India http://www.hairclinicindia.com/radha.html

Both excellent surgeons. Dr Radha is cheaper and was trained under Dr Path for many years. She charges $1 USD per graft. You'll be very happy if you choose either of these Dr's

My choice of doctor was based entirely on his reputation and not cost. I did not even know how many grafts I would be receiving during the procedure.

I got a number of inquiries from people on the forum after my post and only then did I ask him, about a year after the procedure during a follow up. He did 2400 total grafts at a density of 30/cm2. He said he wouldn't ever go with a higher density especially up front and likes to leave a sufficient number of grafts (most people have 6000 to donate lifetime) available for the future given how unpredictable hair loss can be.

He was quite weary of the state of hair transplantation, given that most docs who go in it are driven soley by dough, and now advertise based on what consumers are asking for (i.e. amount of grafts transplanted, etc) whether or not its good for him. He mentioned people looking for the most grafts at the best price are asking for trouble.

I got a greater appreciation on the follow up how much of an art this is. so many factors go into the transplant such as angle of insertion, density, hairline, etc etc. I guess like any other plastic surgery, you want the result to be natural. A poor cosmetic procedure leads to others knowing something is 'off'. I wasn't even aware how someone could f up a hair transplant that bad, but he gave me numerous common problems he sees when asked to do it the 2nd time around. The docs name is walter unger; he has his own wikepedia entry.

Not to say you can't get it done by a quality surgeon overseas for much less, I would just do considerable research and not have cost/graft # as your main determinant.

yeah spot on. It's not wise to make a decision purely based on price.

The best site for doing research on the procedure is - http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com

It should take a few months of research to find the right doctor.

You'll notice Dr Path in Thailand won the same award in 2010 that Dr Unger won in 1994 for hair transplant excellence - The golden follicle award. This is considered one of the most prestigous awards in the industry.

I highly recommend Dr Path in Thailand and his former assistant Dr Radha who is now doing surgery in India.

The best in the business from my experience is Dr Rahal in Ottawa. Most of his patients I previously had contact with were been blown away with the results they achieved.

Thanks for sharing bigxxx...I'm glad you are happy with the outcome

I had a hair transplant done

I scheduled a surgery today. Thanks to the OP for putting this thread out there. It helped me with my research. The guy I'm using knew of, and worked with all of the docs listed here. Evidently all the top doctors know each other. I live in L.A., and figured that there had to be top docs residing here. I think I was right.

-I'm not scared of the Propecia. I'm in the top 10% of fitness level for my age (35). I think the side effects would be reserved for people that were otherwise unhealthy or stressed.

-I elected to do the FUE procedure. 1,500 grafts for $6 each. I'm not into cars or expensive travel, so $9,000 is easily justifiable to me.

-The top of my head is thinning and my hairline is receding about 3/4 of an inch. Both traits run in my family.

I'm doing something about it. I can't see myself getting married anytime soon, and I can still date as low as 22. I want to continue this for at least another 3-5 years. To me, $9k and a 5 day weekend of healing is worth that.

BTW: A lot of docs can now transplant hair into the FUT strip scar and cover it. They can also transplant hair to thicken or replace lost eyebrows. Amazing stuff going on in this industry. I don't know why any guy with $10-$20k would buy a luxury car over having a strong hairline well into his 40's and 50's.

Nice thread, OP. Lots of good information here.

But I can't believe how old this thread is and no one has asked what is possibly the MOST important question of all... does is make a difference with the girls? LOL

I guess anyone who has had the procedure can feel free to chime in here, not only the OP.

I imagine that if a guy feels the need to spend $10k on something, it's something that will add to his self-confidence, otherwise why bother, so it might be hard to know if the improved results with women (if there are some) are due strictly to the hair regrowth or the boost in confidence and self-assurance, or a combination of both. Either way though, I'm not sure it matters which one. If the result is the same, then who cares. It's worth mentioning only for a guy who is super-confident even without the hair, his success might go up based only on the hair and little else.

Anyway, whatever the reason, did you find women are more receptive after the surgery or not really? Are you getting more looks and eyefucking when out? Are they more likely to engage in conversation if you open them? Are the results improved across the spectrum from getting looks all the way to the close or did you find that you got more initial attention but that it didn't make much difference beyond a certain point? Are you getting more action from the hotter girls too or just from the average fatties?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm balding, and I wouldn't personally have a hair transplant. I'm not going to go into the reasons as people will have done their own research and if you think it's worth it then that's your choice. However, if scientists ever come up with a way of properly regrowing a full, thick head of hair then I'd be prepared to pay out for that. Knowing me though, I'd still shave it short, but having the option of the caveman look would be nice!

I plan on getting this treatment next year. I like the shaved head/goatee look, especially being tall and buff. I don't like even with a shaved head you can see my crooked bad hairline tho... this seems like the perfect treatment for me.

^ look how unnaturally straight the hairline is. seems like a bad idea. what are you gonna do when you age into your 40s, 50s, 60s? everybody will be thinning, receding, AND greying by then, yet you'll have this gimmick of a drawing on your head.

look into hairpieces (or "hair systems" as they're called). they look very sophisticated and natural these days.

examples from one company: http://www.hairdirect.com/photos/Before-After/Men.aspx

i will consider this option after i turn 35 and have gone Full Picard.

What I do know that when I had long hair, I was consistently guessed to be a year or two younger than my age. When I shaved it all off, I was consistently guessed more than a couple of years older.

That is not good when you're 30+.

Hello,
I had hair transplant. My surgeon was Chaudhry.I had NW 6 and undero my first hair transplant session. My doc told me that i need two sessions minimum to cover my bald area.
Before that i have gone to internet search and what i concluded there should be three points for a good hair transplant
1- Totally natural hair line and undetactable results
2- Minimal scar on donor area
3-Hair direction and curve of hair should be normal.
I discussed these points to my doc in the initial consultation and meet some of his patients and they were satisfied with the results.

Thanks

Your link is for DHI, personally I would not go near them and have only heard bad things. I went for a consultation with a guy who was not even a doctor, it lasted all of 10 minutes and he pretty much said '4 grand and we can fill the temple areas in, we wont even have to shave the donor area'. He could not give a name for the doctor who would do the procedure (I planned on checking his work) so I promptly left.

I had a hair transplant done

I had my surgery today and the pain meds are wearing off [Image: angry.gif]

I arrived at 7am for prep, and was under anesthesia by 8am. Slept through most of the morning. The rest of the procedure lasted until 7pm, which made for a long day.

The doc stuck my with over 30 needles for local anesthesia, not fun. This is not as easy as people would make you believe. My head is supposed to be swollen for 3-4 days after, and I have to sleep at a 45 degree angle for that entire time.

If you're worried about concealing FUE, then schedule at least three weeks after the surgery for recovery of your hair. They have to shave your entire head. The benefit over FUT is that there is no scar, wound, and an even longer recovery. FUT takes about half the time though.

Two things; 1) There is a lot more pain then advertised, 2) The procedure takes a longer time than advertised. 12 hours for 1,500 grafts.

I really liked my doctor, and though he did a very good job. He did have 3 girls that did a lot of the work, but he was on it the entire day. Even gave me his cell phone in case I needed to call him tonight. I would be very comfortable recommending him to anyone.

When I get my pictures, I'll post. The pics are not pretty though...

Feel free to ask me any further questions about it.

I had a hair transplant done

I am looking at hair transplant options due to receding hairlines.

It's very confusing. I've found several places charging $3 per graft or about $1 per hair in states.

The thing with a graft is that, it can have one, two or three hairs on it. they might chop it up more just to increase the number of grafts. so it sounds more reasonable to pay by the hair.
But the problem is how do you really know they are transplanting agreed amount?

Where did you have it done Cap7? I had 1500 grafts done around 2 years ago now, it took just over a week for the redness to go away and the surgeon recommended eating lots of antinflammatory foods which I think helped. Make sure you stay out of the sun and it could also be worth looking into a lasercomb, I found that sped up my growth a bit.
