This video might deserve its own thread since this game is probably a dream game for a lot of you. Final Fantasy 7 remake with at least Final Fantasy 13 graphics... on ps4 and sounds like other consoles. The video teaser sucks though doesn't show much and no gameplay. I would think gameplay would easier to pull of than cinemas since the models are much lower resolution and the rendering is real time.
These guys were quite excited to see Final Fantasy 7 remade. One of them cried. I was excited to see Final Fantasy 7 return. But not like this.
As long as they do/don't do the following things, it's going to be amazing (already was going to get a PS4 for Uncharted 4 anyways):
Begin the nerd-out. Some spoilers?
- Update the pointy, crappy (yes, crappy) in-game graphics. Interactive environment would be nice.
- Keep the Materia system. Hell, the addition of some sort of ability system connected to armor for buffs wouldn't even be so bad in addition (then again, by the end of the game my party is already ridiculously overpowered anyways) .
- Stay away from fan-servicey crap (ie - Sephiroth never kills Aeris etc,.).
- No new characters...but to be honest, I could do without Cait Sith.
- Correct several errors with the in-game text - I'd prefer no voice acting but if it's respectable it's okay.
- Keep the open-world map. Maps have been linear since FFX (with the exception of the underrated FFXII) and I hate it.
- No gimmicks with the battle system, no changing it to real time battles - the system used in FFX would be a more than ideal upgrade. The ability to swap in fresh characters + double enemy health.
- Don't cut or censor some of the more 'problematic' scenes - the Don Corneo arc, the Barret-Dyne arc (or the fact that with a gun, a loud, brash attitude and a white girl, Barret is basically 'black guy'), the Sephiroth backstory etc,. Thankfully Square-Enix is not an American company but they will feel heat for some of this.
- Option to skip summon animations after the first time you see them.
- Remaster the score. Keep the original tracks but get the Tokyo Philharmonic on them (like they did for Dragon Quest 8).
- Tifa's tits are as big as my head. Let's keep it that way. Also keep the romantic subtext between characters (Cloud-Tifa, Cloud-Aeris) ambiguous. I know a lot more girls play games these days and they want their 'true love' romances - RESIST!
- NO BULLSHIT DLC PACKS! Imagine getting to the City of the Ancients, seeing the famous scene there and 'To proceed to Disc 2, receive a new outfit for Tifa and a new weapon for Barret, please pay $8.99!'. I would personally fly to Tokyo to bitchslap Nomura.
- Refine Chocobo breeding - hate that shit. Less dependence on the races, hell if you could even find blue or green ones out there in rare battle encounters that'd work for me.
- Controversial opinion: Disc 1 FFVII, best game ever. Disc 2? Hits the wall like Tara Reid and doesn't gain momentum back until after the weapons get released. I'd not be opposed to multiple POVs (like FFIII did a few times) as long as it doesn't tamper with the original story.
- Speaking of the story...just a
touch more exposition. Until you log 2-3 playthroughs, the story is about as clear as mud (and who has the time for 2-3 playthroughs of a game that takes about 60 hours? Me playing the game in my early teens yes, me in my 30's now, no) - Cloud is a clone of Sephiroth who has Zach's memories. You're chasing Jenova-controlled Sephiroth and not Sephiroth himself. Aeris is the last of the Cetra, who were killed by Jenova, Shinra thought the Jenova corpse they found was a Cetra and used it's cells to create Sephiroth with the intent of making a super soldier etc,. etc,. etc,. It's hardly the only game of it's era with a needlessly complex and convoluted story (looking at you, all-time-great
Chrono Cross - which I've new game +'ed at least ten times and STILL don't fully comprehend), but am I wrong to assume that an average gamer in 2017 is dumber than an average gamer in 1997?
- A few really cool areas get the short shift and maybe a few optional missions can be added to give them more screen time (and no, not in the form of DLCs). Thinking specifically of Wutai, Cosmo Canyon and Costa Del Sol.
- Last, but not least...RESIST THE URGE TO TIE IN THE LORE FROM THE BULLSHIT AND UNNECESSARY SPINOFFS!
If they can do all of more of this, it'll be good. I have FFVII on my PS3, maybe I'll start her up again come winter (of course in my opinion III/VI is superior and I have more personal fondness for X, but neither of those are VII).
