See, that's the problem I've run into. Even my local contact who works in IT doesn't really know of a Craigslist-type alternative. She just went to local real estate agents. Unless there's something we're missing, people here just haven't gotten the idea of cutting out non-productive middle-men.

In general, people here I believe are intimidated by "bizness" people, and ascribe more expertise to them than they have.

I'm sure it'll start to change, but guess what: Then there'll be more people like US here.

I went downtown today to shop for an extension cord and some computer speakers. The number of feminine 8's is really amazing. Lots of variety too, tiny petite 5'0" brunette pixies, blond monsters 6'1" with cheekbones wide enough to serve as airplane wings. And big soulful eyes, dude. These chicks seem romantic to me, which is what is missing in Asia for me; I'm sure someone else feels Asians are just as emotional, but from my point of view I don't see it.

Yesterday I had a fun adventure looking for some women's stockings to serve as a pop filter for some recording I'm doing. I went into at least 15 stores that sold shoes, clothing, and NO ONE had freaking stockings.
This is the magic story I hinted at in today's earlier post.

I was wandering around the central oval in the city, and saw a passageway into a set of buildings, and thought maybe there's a cheap little shop that would sell something like this. I mean, this women definitely wear stockings. So I found my way into a small interior mall, and as if by magic I found the stocking store. Only it was really just a glass display case in the mall, about 2 feet square and 5 feet high. With an adorable, wiry Ukrainian 8 patiently sitting beside it, waiting for me as she texted. It was just so freaking cute, her store was this tiny display case.

Google translate on my iPhone prevented her from thinking I was a transvestite, and she officiously got her key ring out and opened the case. I got the stockings I needed, along with a big crush on her. I text-translated for her " This is a new story for you today, yes?" and she giggled and agreed.

This chick would have been upper-middle class wife bait in Murka, here she's just getting by with her little stocking store I guess. there are a LOT of women who are not just "sort of" thin, they have NO extra flab AT ALL. And they like to show it off with tight stovepipe pants showing their elegant legs.

1) I haven't seen a pharmacist yet who was less than an 8, out of 4 so far. "APOTEK" or similar is the pharmacy name here.

I'm a little confused how you say how locals are intimidated by business people. To me that should mean because of the intimidation, they won't use their services....agents included.

I have to work really hard to find cheaper accommodation before I arrive because $900 is a deal breaker. In Prague I paid $500, Krakow $500, Brighton UK $800. The only one higher was Dubai at $1,500 a month! But that was the going rate at the time and the $$$ was good.

I want Ukraine so badly! I'm getting hit-up on Mambu.ru & vKontact.ru by beauties! 8-9's even! They contacted me!

Mate I will be honest $900 for a 1 bedroom apartment in one of the cheapest countries in the world is far too high. That's UK prices....short-term, long-term makes no different. I'm renting in Krakow for FAR less than that.

You will pay those higher prices if you do this yourself. People there would rather not rent to you then lower their monthly fees to a foreigner.

Real estate agents is the norm there. Even if you call a newspaper ad it will be an agent. Landlords almost always go through agents.

One room there is like a studio apartment here in the US. You sleep in the living area but separate kitchen and bath.

Yeah, I was pretty happy with the $550 since it was an updated flat just like we would get in the west. Summer time you will see higher prices in a city like Odessa. It was cheaper because I was staying a year. I think she got a lot more for the summer months.

My ex had a friend who knew someone in immigration. I bribed her a couple of times for a new visa without leaving. From what I hear, they computerized everything since then and it can be a crap shoot to leave and come back.

I overstayed my last visa and ended up forking over $100 usd when I left for India. I was in India for over 3 months and didn't have a problem getting back into Ukraine after that.

You could look into some language classes or charity bs work. There is a guy here names Deb that seems to have it worked out but he didn't really give much info. He said he purchase property for like 5k and that allowed him easy access to residency.

I would go for 3 months to see if you like it before worrying too much. That is the kind of place where knowing people and greasing palms will take care of most of your problems.

Doing border runs used to be popular with english teachers working under the table. They'd exit through Poland or Moldova and come back a few days later. I'm told though that since September, Ukraine has been going with a "90 days in, 90 days out" rule similar to the one in the schengen area

In my experience it can be quite difficult to get short term accommodation on the cheap if you want your own place. If you don't mind sharing then you can usually get much better deals. I'm very surprised that you got a short term place in Brighton for $800 but maybe this was sharing?

Maybe another alternative is in popular places to take on a long term rental and then just sign the lease over to another traveler when you want to move on, I think this would be very easy to do in somewhere like Medellin where there are loads of short term rentals in excess of $1500 per month.

When I say easy, I mean that it would be easy to find somebody else to take over the lease, it may be difficult getting the original rental depending on how the local rental market operates.

Well, there is cultural differences and then individual differences.

Women tend to take care of themselves better which has been posted many times.

They are very direct so that could be a good or bad thing. Culturally, they have no problem telling someone they got fat. It just isn't a impolite thing to say to someone there.

Image is very important. Women would rather spend all their money on clothes and eat little.

They walk everywhere in heels which, from the sounds of it, will be heaven for you.

They can be stubborn as hell.

They don't forget anything and you will hear about stuff you did years later. haha

Sex is healthy to them and they won't use sex to punish you.

This is kind of general because women are different. You got some that will work hard and take care of their families once they get home while others that are lazy as fuck (like my ex).

I think they're just obeying authority. Want real estate? Go to a real estate agency. Until 20 years ago, people in the Former Soviet Union were beaten down by one of the most brutal, well-organized totilitarian governments in history. They are not ones to stand up to authority readily.

Cultural memory is deeper and longer than individual memory. Ironically, believe the Soviet revolution got rid of landlords. The State owned all real estate and people paid nominal rent but the rest of the economy was hosed. It just shows that the only thing you can learn from history is that you can't learn anything from history.

There was a great windfall when Communism ended, and many people were more or less given their apartments.

However, as one wag said, if you took the money from rich people and spread it all around, in twenty years the same people would have all the money again. That's what's happening here, now.

If you think about it, how can you justify real estate ownership, I mean the land? Did you make it? Did ANYONE make it? No, the only justification is that of power. I have a bigger gun than you. It's not like a house that someone built.

I think it will be pretty easy for you to decide whether a woman is playing you.

They are pretty direct.

A pro dater will take you shopping when you first meet.

Her recommending sushi, expensive places to eat and ordering "freshly squeezed" orange juice will be good indicators.

Her wanting to use her own translator. Normally it will be a friend that over charges you and splits the money with her.

Asking for high taxi costs. Yeah, I know players here would never spend money on taxis but this isn't the same as the west. A lot of times a girl will take the bus to meet you but may need a taxi at the end of the evening to return home.

If the girl is in the clubs every weekend then probably a player.

This stuff is pretty much common sense. A lot of guys that go there shouldn't be dating and thus get fleeced.

Day 10: Deeper Into The Mystery

Today was Sunday, and in Lviv city center they ban cars until midnight.

I learned a lot more about it tonight. It's a brutal mix of oligarchs, the mess they leave behind, and how that mess combined with female hypergamy leaves the Sub-Alpha Majority hosed Ten Ways 'Til Tuesday.

I went out to a restaurant with three employees of a fairly successful firm,

Two are pink collar, one is moving up to white collar.

Now he background of Ukraine's economy is this: Like most world economies, there is a ruling class that makes off with a lopsided percentage of the output of the country's dough.

However, in a country that's marginally poor ( Ukraine), when cutie-pie Tymoshenko ( the hot former prime minister, not jailbird) makes off with an 11 Billion-with-a- "B" personal fortune in a few years, that directly affects the basic livability of the country.

I talked at length with a pink-collar worker guy here today and it was enlighting to see just how he's getting screwed, and how it benefits outside guys from first world countries that come in here looking for women.

This was a reasonably bright-averge guy, I've published research related to IQ tests so I can be fairly confident he's about between 95 and 110. Not able to get into the technical elite, but cooperative, alert, helpful, and energetic-- the kind of guy that could become a successful contractor of some kind in the USA, buy a house, and lose it all to a bitch when they kids are 8 and 10 and end up on this forum.

He was doing-realtively- pretty well. Support job at a technical company with foreign customer base outside Ukraine.

He shared very run-down tiny one-bedroom with an older relative. It looked like it hadn't been painted in decades inside.
His small room was presentable, but the bathroom was a paint-peeling disaster. They had an envelope of squares cut from newspaper to use as toilet paper, but to prevent clogging the used toilet paper had to be disposed of in a plastic garbage bag nearby.

But here's the kicker-- even this ( by MurkaValues standards) really poor guy had a 10-years-younger girlfriend whom he had to fend off for the night to spend some time helping me with some computer issues I was having.

And he wanted to marry this girlfriend.

But she didn't want to. Why? Because she saw no future in the Ukraine, and was focusing her energies on, someday, moving to the USA. Hypergamy doesn't just work in person to person relationships, but also into which country a climberchick wants to nest in.

Although she was majoring in a marginally technical field, it wasn't something really competitive like Electrical Engineering or Medicine-- something that a 120+ IQ person could leverage to get into the USA.

She didn't, from what I could tell, have a serious, credible plan to get to Murka, it sounded more like the ghetto dweller that plays the Lottery with the idea that nothing else is going to work, so they might as well take a chance on something that might, even though it's quite slim.

So there's the picture of the Ukraine that evil guys like me can benefit from--and a few soccer games in 2012 aren't going to change it much. Whereas the oligarchs in Murka who skim off the top do it legally ( like the Koch Billionaires who financed Wisconsin Governor's Scott Walkers fight against horrible evil employee unions) and get front men ( like Walker was) to do their dirty political work for them; in Ukraine the oligarchs themselves ( LIke Timoshenko) directly pocket the money from gubmint commodities contracts and leave their people without even toilet paper.

And, except for a small minority moving into the middle class, leave the chicks looking to get out just about any way they can in a no-win, totally oligarch-centered economy.

Timoshenko recently got 7 years for skimming her 11 billion. and the current prime minister of Ukraine was dis-invited from an important EU conference.

One wonders what these oligarchs are thinking? How many jets, yachts, do you need? Why don't they just set up a legal system that favors them and legally steal, like in the USA? It is baffling, yet leaves literally thousands of 8+ chicks ready for any hope of a way out of a fucked economy.

DAY 12: Jet Lag Receding and I Have started Approaching

I am becoming IKE the Beta Approaching Machine. Three Approaches today, a 8, a 7 and a 65 year old.

OK, here's some good day game intel, about 1.5 miles West ( I think) of the medieval city center is a big supermarket and multilevel indoor mall really good for day gaming. It's called Slipo.

The street level store is a very big supermarket competitive with a very good US supermarkets, it has a very good deli counter and I haven't gotten sick yet from it; they have baked chicken and carrot salad which I like. Also they have like 100 kinds of yogurt, etc, a very good selection of brandy.

Most all products have only Ukrainian/Russian descriptions on them, so you have to kind of guess what you're getting except all milk products have to have the fat percentage on them ( 1.5 through 70% for some cheeses) so that gives you some idea of what you're getting.

Today I explored the four additional floors above it which comprise a five-story indoor mall which was largely deserted except for the bored-out-of-their-skulls salesgirls!

It seems like there's a ton of clothes stores, but I think they're relatively overpriced because there really was hardly anyone there. Roughly half the workers were 18-30 girls and most were attractive.

It was freezing in Lviv today, it reminded me of the damp Moscow cold I experienced years ago, so I started looking for some polyester underwear.
First I stopped at the really nice cafe on the top floor, it has a great view of the huge Lviv train station about a kilometer away.
A double espresso and a nice chocolate cake that was not hideously sweet like in Murka was about $4. The cafe was almost deserted.

I eventually found the long underwear on the fourth floor of the mall; but there were two older ladies working in there.

But as soon as I started floundering around with iphone translation, trying to ask about what the long underwear was made of, the cute 7 appeared as if my by magic. I somehow sensed she understood English and upon asking her about the fabric the long johns were made of, it became apparent she was at least at an intermediate level. I asked her if she worked there and she said she worked at the shop across the way.

Perfect athletic, model slim body, small boobs, wide hips with firm ass and trim, long legs, a little goofy looking but intellgent, big eyes.

For some reason my credit card didn't work so I went to get some cash, bought the pants and went looking for her in the store. Her boss was there, an older lady pissed that guys that don' fo after her any more, but she was leaving and I mouthed and pointed as she walked out "Is that your boss?" established a conspiracy.

I asked her about Ukrainian lessons and I think she's going to flake because she called up her friend who does that, asked if she could give out her number and gave me HER number!. Oh, well, maybe the friend is even hotter! Once I got one number and the camel had his nose in the tent, I simply added on "Let me have your number too" and she gave it up.

I really have no excuse because I hate approaching, but it's so clear here like that women have a sort of cliff facing them at 25-27. It must be HELL being single here for a middle-aged woman, it's hard to pin down what exactly makes it so inconvenient/stressful it is to live here if you are also working, but it must be even worse if you are single-- the time on the painfully crowded buses, the marginal nutrition and often unscientific medical care, the treacherous sidewalks, the barely-scraping by wages, and not least the knowledge that in this kleptocracy things will barely get better-ever- economically for you-- I think the stress must age women fast after they're 25 or so.
So they are NOT like MurkaBitches who sincerely believe they can ride the CockCarousel express until they are 32.5 years of and then snag, you know, somebody "good", even if he's BORING like a doctor or something.

A 23 year old here is still trying to have some fun in life, and when a sort of cute but rather worn looking MurkaDoctor who's articulate enough to say he's a screenwriter ( what I said) comes on strong, it's not an insult because I'm twice her age, it's a fucking LIFELINE that helps show her she has a CHANCE at a stable lower-middle class lifestyle, which most only hope for here. Even if she is going to hold out for younger guy. For a while.

She said she spent 1.5 years in Germany, which should have totally spoiled her, but her face isn't model-hot so she may have had limited carousel tickets while there. If she was a total hooker she could have stayed I guess.

I followed the Generalissimo's idea of saying you're working and it seemed effective, I think it was right after that I asked again for her number and she grabbed my phone immediately.

'What are you doing here?" she asked.

"Working on a movie. I'm a screenwriter. "

It worked really well.

So although I am still going to get young-chick-flakes-on-old guys experience here, it's not going to always be that way. I can wife up a super young chick, get her to pump out a baby, and she'll be relatively happy someone is paying the rent and food so she's not utterly exhausted.

Im Murka, I could work hard and nail some chicks 30 years younger, but typically they'd be curiosity fucking me, then dumping me-- dreading telling upper-middle class parents their fiancee is the father's age, leaving me to start over again at an even older age.

Hell, I would've paid a lot of money to have had his knowledge before going. He was the resident expert, but hasn't posted in awhile.

How is the google translate working out? I bought a Tab 10.1 as a tool similar to how your using the iphone. I was curious if people get impatient or offended when you use it to communicate.

I think you are being pretty hard on yourself, I don't know what you look like but you have most of your hair which is a bonus.
Forget Murka, you are in a different world and only for a short time.
The way I see it, those girls would be more than happy to snag a dude like you. My czech ex got pregnant when she was young to a dude 30 years older than her, he was a director of some company.

Thanks a lot for the encouragement. and for using Murka, haha, it's spreading quickly. As for being in another world, it really has that feel, almost like a science fiction novel where a harsher world developed.

As far as being here for a short time, actually I'm only limited in my time here by the 90 day limitation, I don't want to be explaining myself at the border when I split. I busted ass for about 15 years to get an independent income stream going, which adds to my confidence. $1000 a month here is significantly more than anyone but entrepeneurs make.

Aliblahblah, I remember some of what Old Nemesis was talking about, not sure if it's the same thing as you are thinking of,
one thing he said was that they're not obvious at all and sometimes will just sit passively when you're feeling them up etc.

He sort of implied anything but active resistance was agreement I believe. He hasn't been around a while I don't think.
