A curious thought that THC had. Skip regular clubbing and just go after-hours. Everybodys drunk and way easier to chat up.

I got serious traction at Scratch Dog (ups to Rio), but its no cakewalk.

Thailand girls (at least quality ones) will never approach you. The most they'll do is smile at you. Its all up to you.

That was not always a strategy per se, it just happened often because I underestimate the time spent on pregame drinking. I did however do well at the after-hours [Image: wink.gif]

RCA is definitely a lot more fun if you go with friends. And if you can find a Thai group of friends you're even in better shape, it will give you massive social proof.

Had a look round RCA, it looked kind of boring.

It's OK taking Thai friends there, but you'll often be expected to bankroll the night.

I'm also bored of Thai girls and will go somewhere else soon. Once you've asked an Issan bar girl where she's from it's best to stop talking to her. Actually the best Asian girls I've met in Bangkok haven't been Thai. There are some good Chinese, Burmese and Filipinas here if you're prepared to hunt for them.

As for the general scene here, I was doing way better in China. Thailand's a pretty conservative place, but no such problems in China. Thai chicks tend to cover up, but in the heat of the Summer down in Guangdong Province I'd regularly see women squeezed into the tiniest hotpants known to humanity.

Never had that happen. The standard is to split the bill. I've noticed the last time I was there significantly more pro-looking women around, they're probably not working but may be at other times, somewhere else.

I also find it easy to drink for free with most Thais, even in hooker nightclubs. Don't know if it is a good idea though, but easy it is once you're at the table, drinks keep coming your way.

These are all problems stemming from the fact that you're old, out of shape, spend your time in gogo bars on lower Sukhumvit, and probably have piss poor game, judging from your posts.

There's legitimate criticisms to be made of Thailand, Thai women, and the nightlife here. Most people I see complaining about BKK and Thai women are not having trouble due to those reasons, but due to them thinking they will show up here looking like shit, dressing like shit, being fat, and offering no value, yet still expect clean house.

They come here, fuck some gutter dwelling semi-pros, then bitch about low quality women in BKK. All the while not realizing they are low value themselves, so have zero chance of even hooking a decent Thai girl for a conversation, let alone getting their dick wet.

As I've said before, being a white male with a pulse isn't going to get it done.

Now, I can see how people COULD get bored with Thai women. Absolutely. I'm not saying the are the best women in the world. I'm saying don't condemn a whole nation of women based off of your limited experience fucking the dregs of society because you can't get anything better.

There goes my rant for the day.

Rionomad, I predict more of these rants in the next 3-4 months, do you even bother meeting RVF guys in BKK anymore? Id say BKK has the highest chances of meeting a RVF weirdo of all the cities I've been to.

I don't meet anyone who im not "RVF friends" with. You, THC, Fisto, Soma, etc. Im looking forward to meeting Beyond Borders and LeightonBlackstock, but I have no interest in meeting random, unrepped dudes passing through. I'm sure some of them are cool, but I have a whole social circle and life here in Bkk, so don't really need to meet random dudes to hang out with. YMG, Direct Danger and guys like that I want to meet up with, but the dude with 20 posts or one rep point, probably wont meet.

BKK attracts mad weirdos and dipshits with terrible game, so I'm wary of meeting up with guys who I haven't interacted with much.

TopPanda may be a nice guy, but no one should listen to has advice or comments on Thailand anymore than they would some random monger at soi cowboy, which is to say, not at all.

^^^I went to Demo and Funky Villa. Hated it. Impossible to penetrate those tight-knit social circles unless you speak thai or know somebody there. I had 1 drink and bounced. I'd do Escobar over those 2, but thats just my preference...

The easiest way to pick up hot girls in posting up at 3am on Sukhumvit soi 11 and spitting beer cart game at the drunk hot girls going to afterhours. Terminal 21 around late dinner-time is esp fruitful as well.

What he said ^^

Decided to go and finally check these places out. Went with my primary as I always see her Sat anyway so might as well do something constructive with the time!

Both Demo and Funky Villa employ the "Thais get in free (of course) but farang have to pay 500 baht - but you get 2 FREE drinks!"

FUCK THAT SHIT.

These fuckers wouldn't have dance clubs or dance music if it wasn't for the West and this is how they thanks us? Fuck those cunts.

Might as well have "whites go here, blacks go here." (I know, a white man getting all upset about rascism! Ironical)

Anyway, she suggested Escobar. I was happy to check it out. It's on Ekkamai itself, just around the corner from those two.

There is a large room with Thai bands playing (shit) but full of Thais, the traditional type. But to the right is the small dance club bit. It has a couple of floors but the action is downstairs. It's small but a good vibe, Quite hard "techno-fied" chart music. Not bad. Drinks prices are reasonable. There were 2 farang when we entered and maybe 8 in total when we left at 2am. It's mostly a Thai place. Some good looking girls in there for sure and what's good about it is, it's not built around the table with a bottle of whisky design. It's just a typical, free for all room. People actually dancing on the floor. A couple of guys with game could do well in there I think.

Whilst searching on my mobile for opening times of Demo and FV, I found this little website. I thought the following was an interesting bit of historical information and worthy of posting here:

http://www.kohspot.com/bangkok/funky-villa-bangkok/

Funky Villa Bangkok

"If anyone was young and in Bangkok circa 2003-2006 there was one universal truth of partying at RCA – you were bound to meet and likely hook-up with a beautiful, rich, English-speaking, car-owning, outgoing Thai girl just by showing up and being a foreigner. No exaggeration. On your typical party night at RCA in 2012, it couldn’t be more different. Farang-tax to enter on the weekends, hookers on the dance-floor, and an aggressive club mentality exuded by a lot of foreign party-goers straight from the Lonely Planet makes RCA a bit of a drag."

He also says:

"The difference between Funky Villa and the RCA of yesteryear, though, is the self-obsessed chip on the shoulder of many of the Thai patrons. Warning to the guys: Bring a ridiculous amount of game if you want to meet girls at Funky Villa, and even then cross your fingers. It’s hard to break those beauties from their personal infatuation with themselves and iPhone obsession. Your best bet is probably to strike conversation in the outside patio. Be smooth, play it cool. It can be done."

Your best bet is probably to strike conversation in the outside patio - as Rio suggested.

Nearly every club in Thailand that I've been to has the farang tax. Gonna have to get over that one.

There's still tons of educated, car owning, well off Thai girls at RCA that like foreigners. I've never met a hooker there. I'm sure some go there, but I don't think there's many, and I don't think they are working while there. I haven't been out much the past six months, so I could be wrong, but don't think that I am.

I also wouldn't take game advice from a random website about Thailand, because it's doubtful the author has much game. Take what you read with a grain of salt.

Vendetta, you've got it all wrong. It's not a farang tax, it's a farang filter. 500baht is about the cost of 2 drinks at a club, so they're ensuring that you'll be buying at least 2 drinks before you enter. It prevents cheapass farangs from clogging up the clubs but not spending any money. Can you imagine how many more scuzzy Khao San Road backpackers in shorts and sandals or broke English teachers would be in RCA/Demo/Funky, etc. without it, ruining it for the rest of us? The entry fees are a good thing.

Golden touchdown! (Though nothing to brag about as it was from Khao San Road).

7/10, University student, Thai.

Went to 'The Club' at about 1am. The place is hilarious, the backpackers haven't got a fucking clue [Image: lol.gif]

It was 'Chang' wife-beaters and baggy cargo shorts everywhere, I went in a shirt and tie, and was seemingly the only one talking to girls.

I eventually went home with the girl that I spoke to after twenty seconds of being in the place. She was in a group of three. The guy making out with her friend was pretty cool (he wasn't a backpacker), so I buddied up with him. The third girl in the group was pretty cute too, but no one pursued it [Image: lol.gif]

We left as a fivesome and the other guy kept suggesting that we go to another club :/. Eventually, I managed to plant the idea in his head that we should separate.

We got (shitty) pad Thai food from one of the stalls. The other guy and his girl sat down a few metres away from me and the other girls.

Two British guys then went up to him and tried to cock-block the poor sod. (Actually I don't know if they were knowingly cock-blocking, they seemed to be on 'I'm on a trashpacker holiday in Thailand, I'm going to high five everyone'-mode). (Sidenote: Ever noticed how backpackers always seem to meet "the most 'AMAZING" people?)

Apparently these guys were brothers, and were sharing a room on Khao San Road.

One of the guys then came up to me and said "Hello", followed by "Why are you wearing a suit?".

Some people just have no idea [Image: lol.gif]

I sure hope those boys had fun in their dorm together.

We managed to get away after five minutes and separated. I left with two of the girls and dropped one of them off at her apartment before taking the other one back to mine.

My buddy went back into the club with the other girl :/.

First impressions: I absolutely love how dark and dingy this city is, for some reason. Looks like something out of Batman at times. Taipei was too straight-edge and normal, I'm liking the 'crazy' element to this city.

The downside is that there are A LOT of foreigners here. Taipei can feel like your own city at times, due to a lack of them.

Glad I moved here. Can't wait to check out the higher-end places. I want to find me some of those hot middle-class girls.

Gah, I just threw up. Bloody hungover. Time for a nap I think.

Welcome Leighton!

One of my favourite views of Bangkok is on the Skywalk by Central World (walk from Siam BTS)

Go there at nighttime. You have the concrete structure of the BTS rail system, the endless rivers of traffics jams, the ultra modern hotels, then the temple on the corner with it's Thai dancers and smoking incense and worshipers and music...

It's the most Bladerunner-esque bit of BKK I've found so far! (that's a film from the 80s - before your time!)

Maybe Akira is more your timeframe.... ; )

Well, that's a more productive way to look at it I suppose. But have you ever known a farang NOT to drink?? Even the hippies need a beer!

I rather suspect it's just typical poor Thai business mentality, like the new proposed 500 baht airport levy for tourists. Retards.

Yes, but the hippies wont pay 500 baht to drink two beers, and neither will most backpackers. Think that was Soma's point.

I don't know that much how it is over there in Thailand, but could this just be due to the fact that foreigners earn more money than most Thais?

Isn't 500 baht like 15 bucks? That's nothing.

And I thought foreigners in Japan were bad...

I welcome cover charges. The club I frequent the most in Tokyo charges 40 bucks in. The riff-raff go elsewhere.

Yeah, I agree these "taxes" are filters.

And as far as hippies not drinking, I beg to differ - it's pretty common. Travelers are often on a budget and often cut back on drinks to extend their trips. Hell we even talk about pre-gaming on this forum, and booze at the 7-11 is cheap.

I ran with Thais for years and I can tell you that farang are much more likely to:

a) Be teetotalers who still goes out to clubs.

You'll see Westerners that just chill on the dance floor rocking out (in a club where no one dances) and never touches a drop of alcohol for health reasons or personal choice or whatever.

Hey no hate because I go out without drinking too. But the point is you'll never catch Thais doing this. Thais with enough self-control to not drink don't go to these types of places to begin with.

Way too much peer pressure in Thai culture for them to pull it off. Women get a slight pass if they're with their man but rest assured someone will be trying to fill their glass all night.

They either party or they don't - no grey area.

b) Save money by not drinking.

Even broke Thais without a dime to their name regularly go out as soon as they get paid and blow all their money on a bottle at the club. Every single penny. And all their friends help them drink it. The fact of the matter is that even at Thai clubs where people look like they've got loot a big chunk of the crowd cannot realistically afford to be there.

They worry about eating later (one of their friends will feed them) and will likely be in the club the next night on someone else's dime. It's always someone's turn to pay (whoever just had a payday).

Thai nightlife is a big spinning wheel that perpetually greases itself.

Us farang are weird (lol) though and play by our own rules. And most of us come once and then are gone. So if they don't charge a cover smelly backpackers and freeloaders will quickly fill the place up and all the better-looking Thai women will find a new place to hang out.

It can be irritating sometimes, but given that you get the drinks out of the deal and aren't paying extra for them it's no big whoop. While two-tiered pricing doesn't always sit right with me I can understand it in these cases.

lol Of course it does. No different than buying two beers to get in. Only more money in their pocket.

If the whole point is to make sure you're going to spend money, showing up at the door and ordering a bottle most certainly provides all the insurance they need.
