I also hear that Austin is full of mostly college aged people, which would be a nice change.
Yeah, I think I read somewhere that they ran the numbers and it turns out that 1 out of every 3 Austinites has a degree. The people here are very intelligent but not in a pretentious way.

One thing that caught my eye was your statement that the weather is better in Florida. I get your point about scorching summers, but some might argue that the humidity in Miami is worse.
Yeah, I guess it's a matter of preference. My statement about Florida had more to do with my latest trip out there a couple of weeks ago to the West Palm Beach area. I'm sure it had something to do with coming from a place where it was 98 degrees, to a place where it was around 88 degrees and had a beach. (West Palm Beach btw, WOW, some smoking hot chicks out there. If you're ever there I highly recommend partying on Clematis street. Maybe start your night off at Rocco's Tacos and then head across the street to Dr. Feelgoods. You wont be disappointed.)

"What does the typical Austin, TX girl look like?"
They typical Austin TX chick, hmmm, thats a good question. I wouldn't say that there is one TYPICAL type of chick but for the most part, the women here are white with a good mix of blondes and brunettes. There are a good amount of Latina's (mostly Mexican) and African American chicks, but you kinda have to be seeking them out. Some types that you do see a lot of: Blonde sorrority types on 6th street, attractive hipster types with tats in the Red River/East Side areas and more professional, in-shape, borderline cougar types in the West 6th/Warehouse district areas. The women for the most part are in-shape and not overly obese. The younger chicks here will seem loud at first, but not in an obnoxious kind of way, more in an overly enthusiastic/excited kind of way. Once you open them and get a little rapport going, they tend to calm down and relax a little bit more. Thats the thing I've notice in general around here, I think the girls use the loudness thing as an intimidation tactic to kind of warn you that if they do decide to blow you off, it won't be very nice and quiet. But once you break through that, they are very feminine and are very open to letting you lead the interaction.

Is the sports culture to the point of being obnoxious?
I've heard this concern about being a sports crazed city before and for the most part, Austin is not that kind of place. Now they are fanatical about the UT football team, but it's actually kind of cool to get a little wrapped up in it, especially when they are winning. After the season is over thats pretty much it for sports. I think the lack of pro sports teams also helps to keep the city from becoming a sports fanatic place. I would call Dallas a lot more fanatical about the Cowboys and Mavericks, Houston very fanatical about the Texans and Astros and San Antonio very fanatical about the Spurs. What was kind of cool was the level of interest in the World Cup. People were into that thing BIGTIME here. I think that speaks to the level of open-mindedness and the diversity of the city. There are a good amount of sports bars if that is your thing though, and nice ones too. The nice thing about Austin is that people don't seem to be into sitting around and watching TV for extended periods of time in general.

Lastly, have you lived in any other areas of Texas that have better access to beaches, like Houston?
I would say that in Texas, there are only 4 cities that are even worth considering living in. Dallas, Austin, Houston and San Antonio. Living and partying in Austin, I have met TONS of people from all over the state and this is what I gather about the other 3 places (anyone who has any other opinions or lives in any of these cities, feel free to give your on-the-ground assessment):
Dallas - People are more pretentious. Lots of snobbery. Extremely spread out. Lots of crime. Good nightlife, but for a more professional, up-scale type of crowd.
San Antonio - Mexicans are the majority. Working class city. The riverwalk is overrated. Not that may choices for nightlife. Some fine-ass Latinas though.
Houston - Even more spread out and dispersed than Dallas. No central nightlife district. Lots of crime. Lots of traffic. Lack of culture.
Now Im reluctant to paint such large cities with a broad stroke, but this is what I've heard from people who live in these places. I have friends that live in the DFW area that complain a lot, but are still living there are going out regularly. A friend of mine in Dallas says that he likes the fact that you can get lost in that city and he thinks that this is not as easy to do in Austin. I tend to agree somewhat. If you are going out a lot in Austin, you will probably run into familiar faces every now and then but to me this isn't such a bad thing.

As you can tell, I have never been to Texas, but it is definitely a contender at this point. Even more so if I can get easier access to some decent beaches.
As far as beaches, NO ONE speaks highly of Galveston, which is the beach that is closest to Houston. You usually hear about it being very dirty and not very touristy. The only beach that people are down with in Texas is Padre Island and maybe Corpus Christi.
