Old Town Scottsdale Data Sheet

I live down in Southern Arizona and I make it up to Tempe/Old Town Scottsdale at least once a month. It is pretty much the only place in Arizona with decent nightlife. If anyone is thinking about hitting up that place, Feb. through April is the time to go. The college crowd is out in force and Spring Training brings in talent from across the country. When I first moved here I thought Spring Training would only bring in guys looking to watch baseball and party but was surprised by the groups of girls that hit the town. Everything around there really picks up during that time and the vibe is pretty cool.

I agree with Jason on the Courtyard Marriott in Tempe. I stay at the Courtyard almost every time I go up there. I typically start my night out on Mill Ave. and if you arent' feeling it, it is a $20.00 cab ride to Old Town Scottsdale. Some nights I enjoyed the energy of Mill and sometimes I couldn't wait to get out of there. Just depends on the vibe during the particular night as it can be hit or miss (at least for me). The good thing about the Courtyard is if you pull it is 5 minute walk to your room.

I will really miss Robbie Foxes and Canteen. Had alot of fun nights there and was able to pull post college girls out of there on a couple of different occasions. As you would guess mainly an ASU crowd but there was somewhat of a mix with an older crowd that came in from Phoenix.

Old Town Scottsdale is changing much like Tempe. Axis Radius and Martini Ranch are gone and the Wild Knight was supposedly remodeled and has been renamed. Mill Ave is good for bars (the most happening place being Firehouse) and Old Town is the place for clubs. American Junkie in Old Town might as well be on Mill Ave. because everyone in there is an ASU student.

The main issue I have ran into in Old Town is that girls roll out in groups 5-6 strong. You almost feel like a lion in Africa trying to cut a gazelle out of the herd. If you are in a group or have a wingman your chances really go up. Alot of the Scottsdale girls are well trained in the art of getting free drinks then flaking off and you can expect some attitude but as the night progresses things usually get better. Pretty much like anywhere else.

The above Data Sheet is right on the money with the exception of a few recent changes. Hope that helps.

Yeah good data sheet...

I meet a ton of girls from AZ here in Vegas, they are definitely more wild then any other city I've seen.

I like the call them Cowgirls as they like guns, don't give a f*ck, and willing to f*uck.

Couple of things I would add..

Don't drink and Drive! So many cops there on the prowl..

Mill Ave is fun and cheap, this is one of the few times girls tried to pull me out of the clubs!!

Yeah definitely fake tits, and plastic surgery reign here...so you better like the porn star look..

and Yes the 2AM rule sucks one of the few reason I do not visit often..otherwise fun city..

I'm born and raised in AZ and even though I moved out of state when I was 20, I know a few things.

1) Mill Avenue (Tempe) is great during holidays -- Xmas & Thanksgiving. The bars are relatively empty, but plenty of girls who are from AZ and went away for college/jobs go out here when they're home visiting their families. And they all hate being home! These girls are just begging for a distraction from their boring ass families.

2) Old Town Scottsdale has some of the hottest girls you will ever see and it costs a fraction of what a night out in NYC costs. I know one girl in particular from my high school who is easily a 9/10. She does nothing but go to the gym and work on her already insane body while some rich dude pays her bills. She has literally hundreds of girl friends just like her: all insanely hot, all do nothing except work out and party, and they all go out in Scottsdale exclusively. It's much easier for a regular dude to hook up with these types of girls in Scottsdale than it is in somewhere like NYC, where girls like that are hidden away in insanely expensive clubs.

3) If you can stand country music, country bars are well worth it. Personally I fucking hate country (grew up on rap and basketball), but it's not hard to pretend you like it, especially once you see how virtually every hot girl from AZ loves country. Toby Keith's Bar & Grill in Tempe is especially great for this. There are some very hot, very dumb, very sweet southern girls who go here who don't go to places like Old Town.

Mill Ave is also pretty good when school at ASU is in session but it's really fucking crowded and if you're over the age of 25 you're gonna stick out like a sore thumb. Better leave that to the younger guys and go to Old Town where you're more likely to fit in.

I haven't been recently but judging from my Facebook feed, those clubs are still hot.

If School of Rock is still open on Mill Ave hit it up. They have stripper poles on platforms in the middle of the dance floor. For some reason the girls can't stay off of the stripper poles. Tables are cheap: bottles of goose started at 100-150 if I recall correctly.

Yes Definitely! Cougar central in Scottsdale. I have met so many 40 and up women who live in Scottsdale still got plenty left in the tank.

Most are blondes though, they all kind of remind of John McCain wife, Rich blondes!

I don't know how old you are or what environment you prefer but the timing shouldn't be to bad if you hang in Old Town Scottsdale. May is an okay month but things get rough in July and August due to the heat. I recently moved from Arizona but I have some recent updates.

Dinner/ Pre-game: When starting your evening you can't go wrong with any of the Sushi places along North Scottsdale Rd. in Old Town (Ra Sushi or Stingray aren't bad). These places are packed with tons of girls. Basically where the party gets started. Some of the groups will move from tables to the bar where you can chat them up. R&R isn't a bad place on North Scottsdale for dinner and a few drinks. It is a place to start the night but you don't want to waste to much time there.

Bars: I recommend Kelly's at Southbridge for a pre-11:00 pm bar as it starts to clear out around this time (at least when I have been there). People leave and start heading out for the clubs. This place is like match.com with a pulse. Lots of typical well dressed Scottsdale girls hanging out in groups. A wingman could really help you out here. There is a wide age group here ranging from college girls to MILFs/Cougars on the prowl. This place is a short distance from the main N.Scottsdale Rd/Saddlebag Trail club bar area. Another bar that is in the midle of the Saddlebag Trail area is the Derby Public House. An awesome place to meet people with an abundance of hot girls, good beer, and bigscreen TVs. I recommend meeting a girl here, than changing venue to a club such as Hi Fi, International, or Mya which are all within short walking distance. The awesome thing about Old Town is everything is close.

Clubs: Mya seems to be the popular club at the moment playing typical EDM music. International (formely called Wild Knight) gets some people, and Hi Fi has always been popular.

IMO best way to go is hit the bars/pre-game locations, chat a girl up, and later change venue to a club with her and her friends. Linking up at the loud EDM clubs can happen but things get more complicated at those places. You will see some smoking hot girls but beware there are some major bitch shields and the flake factor is there. Just like anywhere else. As the other posters have said it is an awesome place. You should enjoy it, have fun.

Suberb update Cowboy

MUCH FUCKING RESPECT!!

Yeah I will staying in a hotel right in downtown Scottsdale although my buddy says we should hit up Tempe first cause that's where the hot college chicks are, what time do you think is good to pregame or do dinner I wanna pace myself and usually eating a big meal before I go out is a no no

I will defitnley run this by him, thanks so much for this

I would usually do dinner and pregame starting around 8:00 pm. By the time you get seated, get service, eat food (either a large or small meal), and have a few drinks it will be after 9:00 pm. This is especially true in old town where it is really busy on the weekend. From there I could jump locations first to a bar then later a club while pacing myself on the drinking. That way I wasn't a total wreck.

I had friends that liked to hit Tempe on Friday then jump to Old Town on Saturday and that seems to be a popular rotation for ASU students as well. Kelly's and Derby's is going to have a really wide age range. If college girls are your thing look at American Junkie in Old Town. Tons of ASU girls go there, might as well be in Tempe. I never had luck there but it is always packed. Long line after 11:00 pm though. Best place for the 21-25 scene in Old Town.

Also, let us know if there are any changes with the local scene. When I left the area in January there were tons of changes going on. Old places closing down and new places opening up. Hope this info is still somewhat accurate.

Heading to the area on Wednesday for a few days, anything you would advise doing night life wise? Thinking of doing a little day game at the Mall in Old Town but open to any suggestions.

Huge cougar element in Scottsdale. I knew guys that got tired of games/drama from young bimbos and transitioned to Cougars and never went back. Very toned fit women that usually have some help from the local plastic surgeon (God bless those guys).

For Cougars there are cocktail bars and lounges in North Scottsdale that are packed with them. You will see them in Old Town as well. The sushi places mentioned above along with Kelleys usually had groups on any given weekend.

Go to the first spring training game practicable. If you get in before 11am on Wednesday, make it Wednesday. Go to see the Giants before any others because their stadium is in the middle of Old Town Scottsdale and is uniquely situated for all the gaming opportunities that Scottsdale offers, day or night. Also, in the stadium itself there are a lot of standing room only gaming opportunities there. You can walk along the back of the outfield wall and into the left field shade areas (see map of stadium) and get in numerous approaches in one afternoon. Your opening strategy is something like this: "Hi, where are you from? How long are you going to be in town? Where are you going later?" Simple shit like that, and then let them tell you. They'll give you an opening if there is one, and everyone is looking to meet some cool people while they're here. Also, San Franciscans, in my experience, tend to cut loose a little bit when they're not in SF. I would even go so far as to say that some of them come to Phx/Scottsdale to get away from other San Franciscans. You know what that means.

If it were me, knowing what I know, I would go to #7 on this map (Giants), first, #10 second (where the Rockies play, a little farther out from Old Town, but still in Scottsdale, and close to the Talking Stick Casino) and #3 Sloan Park (where the Cubs play, in Mesa, but a stone's throw from both Tempe and Scottsdale). Use some throwaway lines about the Cubs and how much they suck, but you love them anyway, or some other anecdote about the midwest. People always seem to be glad to run into someone cool from their neck of the woods. Lots of girls at Sloan Park came all the way from Chicago to defrost and see their Cubbies play, and are looking for a good time. You're only too happy to show them one, of course. I can't personally vouch for the other stadiums for example on the west side of town, but if your team plays there, go check it out and report back. Phoenix is full of people here to watch their favorite team, and while the ratios are less than ideal, there are plenty of girls who want to have a good time on their spring break and not nearly enough men are gaming them at the games (the bars afterwards will be a different story, lock them down while you're at the game because the cute sixes and sevens will be more difficult at the district once they've been hit on by 20 local guys, who do have game). There are shitloads of fun things to do here, and the weather is perfect.

Your biggest costs here are going to be accommodations, especially if you want good logistics. You don't have to spend a lot of money on tickets to the games themselves, they start around $15, but the hotels are expensive because so many people are in town. And if you have fair skin, you better have some sun block with you. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can get by with just coconut oil.

The games generally start at 1 and are over at about 4. If you have a seat in the sun, you will get fried, and it will fuck you up for gaming later. Don't fuck this up; if you have fair skin and you're going to a game, bring some sunblock. I say that as a guy who almost never wears anything but coconut oil when I'm out in the sun. You can't get away with that at a Spring Training game if you're white, even if you have a base tan, trust me. Bring your ball cap too, doesn't matter what team. It will keep the sun of your face, and you'll start conversations with it no matter where it's from.

Great whole post but this quoted part is especially important. Even if it isn't that hot out like 80F or so the sun will still fuck you up pretty bad. Then the rest of your day and the next few days you look like a lobster.

I'm here in AZ now but will probably pass on any spring training games unless someone I know wants to go. A secret great gaming spot in AZ that has tons of untapped potential is the NHL hockey games in Glendale. Lots of cute girls and I never see any guys running game there.

It was 87 today, and the highs for the next ten days range between 85 and 93. Normal highs for this time of year are about 75. There are a lot of people walking around with that lobster look already.

Hey all, great information to be found here! I will be visiting Scottsdale soon and it seems as though the W is the place to stay. I, however, could get a hotel for about $200 cheaper that is near the W, but not the W. I am talking about (what sounds like) nice hotels, such as FireSky Resort and Spa or Hotel Indigo. My question is, if I decide to do this, how feasible would it be for me to get into the W hotel bar, and what would the cost of entry be? This will be on a weekend night for what its worth. Thanks for any help and tips!
