The ultimate Bangkok nightlife guide.

Innuendo seems to have more knowledge of the area than I do, but my friend who lived there really likes Funky Villa. It seems to be the most popular club in the area from what I have been hearing. I have never been to Funky personally though. If I end up in Thong Lo next weekend I'll keep my eyes open for you.

Also staying in a hotel will probably harm you since you can't pretend that you live here. A lot of the girls will ask you from the start where do you live and what do you do in Bangkok, and staying alone in a hotel just screams of sex tourist.

Quoted for truth, Thais girls give you a lot more time if you claim to live here and speak a bit of Thai. I think having a hotel at Asoke or nearbye areas which is right beside Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza will set alarms bells ringing for them. If they come back to your hotel people will assume they are a pro and they will be treated like one by the hotel staff (made to leave ID at reception etc) so it might be wise for you to get an apartment in a nice area of town not too far away from the nightlife. Saying that I've been staying in a hotel in BKK as I'm coming and going whilst I visit other parts of Thailand and it hasn't done me any harm so far, most of my lays haven't been from clubs though so if this is your main aim then go the apartment route.

monday and tuesday seem to be slow nights and i want to party every night as i am in bangkok for 7 days only.
which clubs do you recommend to hit on the aforementioned nights?
is there a chance that at least supperclub or qbar will be half full?

The big clubs in RCA have a decent amount of people on monday/tuesday
The afterhours clubs will also get pretty full after 2 am (Insomnia has the best location and therefore most people go there)

I went to RCA on a Wednesday once and only a handful of places were open, only one was anything near busy. Usually the after hour places have a decent amount of people, Spicy and Climax are good bets too for any night of the week. Was in Climax last Tuesday was a great night, Spicy on a Monday wasn't packed but busy enough to have fun.

Good tip.

Which part of town do you suggest for this?

Considering it is my first time in BKK do you still think an apartment is better than a hotel?

I am asking this because usually the first time I am in a city, a hotel is good because you have people to tell you where to go, give you tips etc.

I typically stay in an apartment once I know a city a little.

Thoughts?

Anywhere in the Sukhumvit Area on the BTS Skytrain would be OK, based on the clubs you want to visit (Bed Supperclub etc) then closer to there the better obviously. I beleive Nana is the closest stop to the club. Below is a map of the BTS line. Ekkamai is quite a nice area as is Thong Lor and Phrom Pong and none would give too much of a sex tourist vibe. Having a hotel / apartment in Asok or Nana probably would. Going the opposite direction Ratchathewi and Victory Monument are nice enough areas with decent bars and restaurants.

I see what you're saying about it being your first time and if you're on a short trip (how long will you be here?) then maybe a hotel makes more sense. There are short term by the night / week apartments right on the BTS line, I've stumbled across a few whilst exploring BKK but I couldn't tell you exact locations usually I struggle to find them again.

@thegmanifesto

If you are staying more than 5 days in BKK I would highly recommend staying in an apartment over a hotel. I have used airbnb.com in european cities and it worked great. Never used it here because I live here. There are also a ton of serviced apartments which is an awesome deal for short term stays.

I am a little bias as i live in the Thonglor/Ekkamai area (also known as Sukhumvit soi 55 & Soi 63) but I advise all of my friends to stay in this area when they come. Go look at google maps and the closer you can stay to Thong lor soi 10, 13, and 15 the better.

Getting a middle class or hiso girl back to a hotel is going to be a bit more of a challenge then to an apartment/condo.

Don't be fooled into thinking the action is near Soi 11 and Bed Supper Club. They are just amazing at marketing to the tourist.

Check out this map

It already looks to be slightly out of date on a few places but gives you an idea about the area.

I was looking through my things earlier and found a business card for an apartment complex in Ratchathewi / Phraya Thai area, website is: http://prplacebangkok.com/

They do nightly rentals at 1000B per night and longer stays too, I looked at this place when I first arrived but genuinely cannot remember if it was good or not. They have various types of apartments, it's right beside the SkyTrain BTS and the airport link which connects to the BTS so useful for anyone on a short stay who doesn't want to venture too much off the beaten track.

A japanese site but carries photos and details on just about all central apartment properties in Bkk that rent to farangs.

Anyone been to Sonic in Ekkamai? Apparently this quirky alternative place and it intrigues me, also an after hours place in Ekkamai called Safe House. The pictures on FB make it look like fairly bizzare place, in a good way.

How many of you are in Bangkok right now? I am here now but not sure if I'm staying here or heading to Phuket for the next four months.

So who all is here now and how long have you been here? I just got in on Thursday.

With the high number of forum members in Bangkok right now and for the coming months we should probably have a general meet-up thread.

Went to Muse and Sonic last night, often billed as HiSo clubs. They are definitely overpriced for drinks and full of pretentious people with fancy cars outside. Neither were fun, Sonic was full of farang and a few strange locals and played dreadful music. Muse was to dark and too loud and set up in a way it's difficult to get talking to anyone, the tables are all packed really close together so it's hard to get in about and talk to people. Won't go back to either.

Ended up in Spicy at around 3am, that place seems to be different every time I go. Sometimes it's full of normal thais, other times sex tourist and pro central. Last night was the latter and was pretty tragic. Old men, groups of dodgy Russian men. Managed to find one group of girls that probably weren't pros but most didnt speak English much and my Thai isnt good enough to carry a convo on for long. Wasn't my favourite night out last night that's for sure.

Is Muse and Sonic in Thong Lo area?

Muse is Thong Lor and Sonic more Ekkamai. We also checked out Demo bar next to Funky Villa, it was fairly quiet and not what I had expected either. I'd been told they blast out techno and all sorts in there but that clearly was not the case at all. Muse, Sonic and Demo were all completely different to how I'd been told they were. Thought I'd been to Muse before but on arrival realised I hadn't. We were going to check out the afterhours club in Ekkamai nex to Funky Villa and Demo called SafeHouse but after 3 visits to 3 places we weren't feeling it seemed wiser to head to a different part of town. I'll say this though there were nice girls around in Muse, just being able to get near to their pokey little tables to talk to them was the issue. Plus the Thai guys there were very annoying and rowdy, I don't visit 'HiSo' type places often maybe thats how they always are.

Ha yes Alpha, same experience of Spicy here. One night cool with young foreigners, mixed thai groups and nice girls, the next night TRAGIC, as you say lol. I met the real Borat in there a while back. ("She is Russian yeess?? I think she SLUT!!")

Re: meetups: Been here 5 weeks, here another 6, definitely up for beers and nights out. Going RCA tonight, seems to be the best consistent place at the weekends.

Yeah seems you have to know the right nights to go to which afterhours place to get the right crowd. Sometimes Spicy will be cool, another night I'll want to kill myself in there. Same with Climax, went once and spent all night chatting up groups of normal girls on midweek nights out, went the following week and spent all night fighting off pros and ladyboys. I'm thinking of heading to Phuket in next couple of days to meet a friend but really can't be bothered with the travelling and finding somewhere decent to stay, moving around irritates me at the moment.

For after hours check out Scratch Dog. It is on the basement of a hotel on Sukhumvit, but not sure which soi. Falangs get in for 400 baht, and get 2 drinks. Or you can just buy a bottle for around 1,500. Me and my friend went and both did really well. It isn't filled with pros like many Sukhumvit nightclubs. I think it's a bit off the beaten path. Could have hooked up with one chick, but ditched her for another. Danced with her for about 2 hours. Was a bit tough to make a connection at first, but after persisting on made a very good connection and even had her grabbing my cock secretly when her ass was pressed up against mine. Did this for over an hour with an occasional nibble on her neck. If you know Thai girls, you know you have to be discreet with any shows of public affection because it is a quick way to run a non working girl off. Any time I would be too blatant with it she would turn away from me, as expected from a Thai girl.

Long story short, my wing wasn't vibing with her friend so he took off. I went to take a piss and when I came back the girls were gone. Because I THOUGHT I knew this was a done deal, I never got her number. Mistake on my part which had me going home alone. Oh well. Live and learn.

All in all, Bangkok is the shit. If you are fairly young, dress decent and are good looking you can have a blast here and do really well for yourself. Even if you are not great looking I have seen many younger white guys with hot girlfriend who appear to be normal girls.

Since it is 5:37AM here, I'm gnna go pound a fuck ton of water and pass out. Bangkok = the shit.

Haven't been to Scratch Dog yet but I plan to check it out, basement of the Windsor Hotel if i remember correctly but not sure exactly where that is. Was it busy last night?

I was so tempted to head out last night, i'd had a couple of beers and couldn't decide whether I was up for it or not but it being Sunday I decided anywhere bar the tourist filled places could easily be dead so didn't bother.
