This goes against just about every other source I have on BKK nightlife (including people on this board) who say BSC is filled with farangs, high-price pros and a small sprinkling of locals on a special ocassion, for just about every night.

Any of you other guys that can corroborate this?

I haven't been to Bed it's self but I've never heard that. Farangs, rich thais...yes but never heard of it being a pro place. I'll go at some point and confirm. The other high end places (Narz, Muse and another place I forget the name of) I've been did not have pro's in so I assumed they were all the same.

Quote:Quote:

the plan was go out end up in gullivers

Not a fan of there at all, too many rowdy backpacker idiots and ugly pros.

Bed definitely has a fair few pros. "Hiso hookers" as one thai contact put it.

It's kind of a weird club. Feels like it COULD be awesome, but it never actually is - most people seem to be tourists, waiting for something to happen. Lots of japanese tourists taking pictures of the walls and beds, lol. It's like, no one is actually partying, they're just there to check out the club. That's my experience anyway. A very cool interior though, I think it would be awesome with mixed friends, bottle service and a table.

Narz I liked, had a fun time there. I gotta check out RCA & ratchada clubs because it seems like one of the few areas that is both reasonably open to foreigners and pro-free.

Currently been having fun in the more pro-laden clubs... shoring is always on the cards and actually I've banged at least 2 girls from these places who arent pros (1 a lawyer). I wont lie though, I gotta hit a classier club sometime soon, I dont know how many more dancefloor conga-lines of prostitutes lead by a pasty old german guy I can take :o

there's a shitload of cheap hotels in the sukamavit area where bed and supper is located...u don't even need to book. everytime i have been i just get a taxi staright from airport to i think around soi 7 soi 8 and walk the pavement. cheap and everywhere. why u want ur accom to be near a particular club? anyway its a good area. bus station close (one hour trip to pattaya) . sky train right there.. bout two or 3 stops to soi cowboy etc etc.

G, you seem to have your eyes set on BSC. I would advise you to look beyond it. While it is exclusive the club part of the place (2/3s is a restaurant) is rather small. It's not a particularly lively club either. The closest comparison I can think of is NYC's Gold Bar. Their restaurant is real good however and because entry to the club is half the cost of the set menu in the restaurant (which includes club access) you should be eating their if you plan on clubbing. The funky layout of the restaurant with the beds however doesn't really facilitate easy interaction with other patrons.

As for your question on good nearby hotels:

The Conrad: The Hilton group's premium brand hotel, also hold the popular club 87 where a hi-so clientèle gravitates.

Renaissance Ratchaprasong: A bit closer to the city center than BSC but without a doubt the hottest hotel in town for the well to do younger crowd. A favourite place for different events, had an enormously extravagant wedding party going when I was there in January.

JW Marriott: Not counting the true luxury hotels (Four seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Peninsula), the JW Marriot is most likely the most exclusive hotel in Bangkok and has a very strategic location at Sukhumvit soi 2 right between the nightlife of Sukhumvit and the buzz of the city center (Siam Square, Paragon, Gaysorn etc).

what kinds of outfits are you guys sporting at these places. The thought of dragging nice clothes that need to be ironed and an extra pair of shoes around with me in Thailand is not attractive.

Girls seem to really love my fanny pack, and socks/sandals, lol.

I'm on Soi 11 right now, about 30s from both Q-Bar and BSC, and here's my brief take on it. The Sukhumvit area is almost certainly where you want to be, but Nana is really tourist/sex-tourist central; it's good for warming up and partying (esp. Soi 11) and maybe staying a couple days to get your bearings, but I wouldn't stay here longer. A definite redeeming quality, though, is the amazing middle-eastern food on Soi Arab. Going east down the BTS line, I would recommend instead either Asok, Phrom Phong or Thong Lo and staying as close to Sukhumvit road as possible. Asok is probably the best located, Phrom Phong is a bit quieter (relatively speaking for Bangkok) with many good Japanese places around and Thong Lo is the Thai HiSo district with a great night food market close by on Soi 38. For a first time visit I'd recommend a place near Asok.

I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?

I think so, though the guys that has stayed in longer stints all say that as close to soi 55 (Thong Lo) is the best. So for my upcoming stay I've rented a condo just south from there. It's all within easy taxi range though (taxis costs dimes in BKK).

G, If you want to stay near the action, then Prom Phong, Chit Lom and Thong Lor are the places to be. Near the Asok BTS station, there a few high end hotels. Here are some good suggestions for you:

Inn Residence Bangkok Sukhumvit:
http://www.agoda.ca/asia/thailand/bangko...umvit.html

President Solitaire Hotel:
http://www.agoda.ca/asia/thailand/bangko...hotel.html

Lebua Tower:
http://www.agoda.ca/asia/thailand/bangko...hotel.html
(not in the Sukhumvit area, but not far but one of the most spectacular hotels in BKK) and for a killer price. Next time I go to BKK, this is where I'm staying at!).

Great location, good hotel right in the heart of the action right on Asok, the Grand Millennium:
http://www.agoda.ca/asia/thailand/bangko...hotel.html

Grand Mercure Bangkok Asok Residence:
http://www.agoda.ca/asia/thailand/bangko...dence.html

Baiyoke Sky Hotel, another terrific hotel, not in Sukhumivt but not far:
http://www.agoda.ca/asia/thailand/bangko...hotel.html

This is just a small list to get give you some idea/spointers. You will love BKK. A first world city in every aspect but at 3rd world prices. Where in the world, in a major capital, can you stay at a 4 star for about 50-60 bucks a night? or stay at a 5 star for about 80-120$/night? Unheard of. Let me warn you tough, you will get addicted to this city like few others. I CAN'T wait to return there!

G,
Haven't stayed yet in any of those, but since I lived there, I passed in front of them many times and know for a fact these are great hotels. Next time I'm in town, I'll stay at the Lebua Tower, at least for a few days. When I was living on Thong Lor, there was a high end serviced apartments right next door. As soon as I remember the name of that place, I'll post it here as that might be a great option for you.

Edit: Here it is the Somerset Sukhumvit Thonglor: http://www.agoda.ca/asia/thailand/bangko...nglor.html
I think this is a no brainer: excellent location, away from the bustle of the night life yet within 2 stops on the BTS or a short 5 minute cab ride, plus it's in one of the poshest areas of BKK.

On that list, I would stay at all of them as they are all great options. Another great option in the same category of the ones mentioned and in which I did spent a few nights is the Grande President on Soi 11, which is within a 2 minute walk from Bed Super Club and accross the road from Climax. [Image: smile.gif] Great option quite cheap at only 55 bucks a night for a soild 4 star hotel. http://www.agoda.ca/asia/thailand/bangko...ngkok.html

Another solid 4 star where I spent a week in the beginning of my mini retirement in BKK is the Tai Pan hotel, right on Soi 23, 200 metres from the Asok station and right besides Soi Cowboy. The hotel is comfy, big rooms, great knowledgeable and helpful staff and the best breakfast buffet in all of BKK.

The thing with BKK is that there are so many options, for all budgets, from 5 bucks a night to the sky. But the best part is that you don't have to pay a fortune to stay at a 4 or 5 star like in the western countries or other mega touristy spots around the world. As I wrote earlier, where in the world, in a major capital, can you stay at a 4 star for about 40-60/night or at a 5 star for 80-120/night? Just one advice tough, don't go in April as the heat is oppressive there, think 45C plus 100% humidity, think Vegas in July/August. Best time is between Oct to end of Feb.

That is one of the great things about Thai accomodation, you can pay hardly anything and get a really decent room.

Just not dressing like a backpacker or sex tourist helps. So no wearing sandals, shorts and vest tops to clubs or wandering around with your shirt unbuttoned / off with your pot belly hanging out and sandals and socks combo.

2. Swing: This is the after, after hours club. Gets crackin about 5am. It is located right across the street from Spicys. Will be mostly working girls, but I am sure some non as well. It is supposedly an illegal club which is owned by the Thai Army and ran by the Thai Police. The few times I was there some cops would roll on your table and shine a flash light on it, looking for drugs I assume. Never had any trouble. To get there you simply walk into the restaurant across from Spicys, walk into the back where the elevator is, and go up to the 5th floor I believe it was. It will open into a room with pool tables and then the bar and dance area is to the left. Met an extremely shady Mexican or Asian American guy, cant remember which, who I am 90% sure is into some sort of human trafficking lol. Weird place, but fun to be at 5 in the morning. Apparently will stay open until 11 or 12 the next day. I always left at 7am.

I kept getting harassed by the token African guy there to buy "Coca-Cola" from him, presumably meaning cocaine. Like I'm going to buy random drugs from a completely sketchy guy following me around in a Thai nightclub - that's just asking for trouble. I just assumed his scam was to sell you something, maybe fake, and then snitch you out to the 5-0, but didn't even realize it was actually run by them. Agreed, a fun, weird place. Once stayed until 10am, brought a girl home and banged until 6pm. Good times.

I was over at Route 66 for Christmas Eve and it was absolutely banging. Full of chicks.

I've also been to Zaleng over in Rachada a couple times and I always have a good night.

The thing with going out in Bangkok, it can often be a group of friends thing due to the bottle service. They have these little square tables near the dance floor and you come with your friends, order a bottle, some mixers, some ice (it's pretty cheap imo). And have a good night. Try grabbing girls near your table to come drink with you. They love sharing drinks.

Hahah that club opposite Spicy is full sketchy. They still have a "happy christmas" banner up over the bar (it's March). Love it though, perfect bangkok afterparty... this is what I'm here for. lol. Spicy is actually semi-cool now too.. yes pros but a fair number of thai girls on a night out sometimes with guy friends, bottles and tables, etc.

Loads of bars in Thailand still have Xmas decoration and happy new year signs up. I didn't find the club opposite Spicy that sketchy but I haven't been for a long time. Spicy has totally changed clientel these days, you actually get normal people in there now and not the previous pro and ladyboy clientel.

It's super cheap and works out good value for money to get a bottle of whisky or rum. Beers are cheap but why pay 90B for a beer when a small bottle of Sangsom is only 120-150B. Makes no sense. It does make things harder to meet the girls when they spend all night crowded round their table with friends never leaving it. A lot of Thai people just don't (and can't) dance either so it's not like you can hit the dancefloor and get them that way. I always have a fun night out.

Yeah, the god damned Nigerians are all over lower Sukhumvit and are all super sketchy. I've only had one try to approach me and I just ignored him. I do like flirting with the African hookers they have around there when I'm walking by though lol. Never would have thought there would be Nigerian prostitutes in Bangkok. Such a trip.

Try and make my way into a group of girls, I tend to avoid the mixed groups if possible (which there are loads of) as it's near impossible to work out if the guys are just friends, boyfriends or gay. Many Thai guys looks metrosexual / gay / effeminate. Once I've got chatting to the girls, spoken a bit of Thai and explained that I've recently moved here they are usually up for a chat. When I find the one that seems most keen I'll try and isolate, e.g. ask her to come with me to the bar for a drink, sit down somewhere else that's more quiet so we can chat, go outside for air (or a smoke if you do) and if she seems keen suggest we sneak off together. This has worked out a few times but it's always at the afterhour places (say 3am onwards) when a lot of alcohol has been consumed. I've never had any luck through this method early on in the night. I guess the girl can just claim to her friends she went home due to being tired or drunk. What your friends and society in general is a major thing in Thailand. There's the obvious foreign sex tourist image that doesn't help things, no girl wants people to think she's a whore so she will always be careful.

If you can't get her to sneak off with you then you have to take the number and get her out on a date.

Yeah, the HiSo Thai girls can be tough. The rich ones don't want to be seen with a farang for the most part. It is bad for their social status. Middle class and low class Thai girls are no problem though. And honestly, I don't give a shit if the girls parents are rich or not. Middle class Thai girls are what I mostly hooked up with. A couple even rolled up to my apartment while I was living in CM and picked me up in their cars, which were brand new. Not BMWs or Mercades like the HiSo bitches, but a nice Toyota Corolla aint so bad lol.

Pipelining is a great bet for Thailand. It's just so easy to meet middle class Uni girls who are super cute and eager to meet up. Plus, these girls will speak English and like farangs. I posted some solid pipelining info and my method for Thailand in one of the threads about it on here. Can't remember which one, but the title was somethin about online dating in Thailand.

I'm curious when you guys are at the club, how do you tell which girls are "HiSo"? The way they dress and the fact that they are huddled amongst themselves at their tables?

Which venues are you meeting these girls at anyway?

I hear the term "HiSo" actually used quite differently between the locals and foreigners. Too often the barfine crowd labels any middle class non-hooker who's decently dressed and doesn't like to be approached by a drunk pot-bellied guy in shorts as a snobbish HiSo girl with her nose in the air. Of course the white-collar girls are going to be harder to approach than the freelancers in after-hour clubs. Unfortunately this usage has spilled over to the rest of the foreigner population.

For the most part the Thais use HiSo to refer to the lifestyles they see on the T.V. serials. You aren't likely to meet a lot of them simply cause there aren't many (the ferrari 458 costs $900,000 US dollars here, no shit). Even if you do, how can you distinguish them in the club from middle class girls who can afford designer clothes?

When sexpats with no game hang out with pros/semi-pros all the time, they'll consider anything's that a step above HiSo, even though they're just pretty middle-class girls with nice make-up.

Fact is most of the girls that many farangs label HiSo aren't considered HiSo by other Thais, especially the girls themselves.

Well its a case of where you go. They all hang out in the exclusive thai venues and avoid foreigners, so not hard to find them or avoid them. You wont need to distinguish them in the club, they largely wont goto certain clubs and will stick to others.

There's good info in this and other threads on which clubs have which crowds. Basically khao san / sukhumvit / RCA will be HiSo free. If you wanna meet them, check out the exclusive places in Thong Lor / Ekkamai.. and good luck! Will be a challenge I guess.

You're right about the warped sexpat view. I try and read as little general info on the net about "Thai girls" as poss because you gotta consider the source - most sexpats are basically losers with girls and only hang around with freelancers, but delude themselves into thinking they have "female friends" and "girlfriends". Then they complain about how badly behaved Thai girls are, lol. But they're hanging out with prostitutes and arent the kind of guys that normal nice girls wanna be around.

Yeah I've mostly hooked up with what I'd say were middle class girls too. University educated, decent jobs, some with cars, some have travelled, lived or studied abroad and all speak decent English. Most still live with parents though even the ones who are mid 30s, only one girl I fucked so far has her own place, a nice Condo. On my last trip I met much more girls who had their own place and nearly all had nice cars.

I think pipelining is great before you arrive so you've got the contacts and dates lined up for your first week without having to put in the legwork but once you've arrived it's not needed. It's near impossible not to meet girls here. Whilst I had good success with online dating and no real horrors turned up, some were definitely a bit chubbier or older than their photos suggested and had one really socially akward girl meet up who said no more than 4 or 5 words in several hours. I prefer now to meet girls in person when out and about and get numbers. I'll maybe dig out that thread and put some info in it.
