Horrible music in the clubs and bars

How do you guys keep from letting all the shitty, horrible music played in most clubs and bars from just ruining your game - and more importantly, ruining your night?

I can barely stand most of the shit played in mainstream bars and clubs, all that katy perry, lady gaga, and all those terrible hip-hop mash-ups (who in their right mind would mash-up hip hop and electronic music, it turns rap gay).

Most of the time I try to get by via focusing on having fun with my friends and trying to smash a girl that night, but often times bad music gets in my way. A lot of these girls actually like that shit, they want to talk about it, dance to it. I got friends who actually know this music and it helps them game girls since its something they can connect on and joke about.

I started seeking out specialty venues where they play latin, reggaeton, or actual good house/dance music, or real rap or 90s rap, but that doesn't necessarily mean those are the best pick-up venues.

I feel awkward as hell standing there in disbelief when they play some wack shit by Pitbull and everyone goes crazy. Damn.

In the U.S. almost every venue seems to play lame 90s radio rock, contemporary (weak) hip-hop or some combination thereof. I had to condition myself to tune it out because most of the stuff I listen to never gets played in venues. Absolutely DO NOT let it bother you and kill your mood. Just tune it out and focus on approaching or bullshit with your bros while the really weak stuff is playing. Don't let it ruin your night. Make an active effort to focus on other things.

I've also noticed that commenting on how much the music sucks, even while true, will kill your approaches because women only listen to socially acceptable music and assume everyone else loves it too (projection).

The only time music should become an issue is when it's too loud to talk over.

Have they invented anything that can "scramble" the music in a club?

Similar to a "Cell Phone Signal Blocker"?

Donovan where are you from? I talk about this shit with my friends all the time, I'm from Toronto and we've honestly been hearing the same shitty mixes for at least 8 years - I totally agree it really pisses me off when going out. I think it comes down to most people being clueless about new music, whereas if you are into it it's extremely annoying. If any of you guys have the money, come to Toronto and open a nice club that plays CURRENT music only and you will make tons of money, I will be your best customer.

I am from Los Angeles, but been living in Chicago and Japan the last 5 years. (currently back in l.a. till I make another move).

Chicago clubs were probably the worst for music, I tended to head to latin spots or black spots to escape the horrible shit yuppies were listening to, like beyonce, rihanna, katy perry, and all the "new" rap (post 2003), which for lack of a better word, is gay.

I am actually quite open to music, I like 90s rap, 80s music, classic rock, etc.

With all that men know about game I'm surprised so many still handicap themselves by going exclusively to clubs. The difficulty of communicating is just one factor. I'll admit availability of talent is less of a concern in clubs but you will have far more duds as well.

I enjoy all main stream music for the most part. There is a couple of artist I dont like too much, but overall its not a problem.

I got my latin clubs for reggeatton, bachata, salsa, merenge ect.

Then I got my country bars for country music.

Then I got the regular night clubs that play top 40 rap, r&b, pop ect

Then there is the techno and house joints.

Im pretty much set no matter where I go.

And hell, I dont even need music. All I need is women and boo's and im good!

Like one poster pointed out, as long as the music isnt blaring loud it shouldnt be a problem....

I was thinking the same thing last night.

I'm not much of a dancer. I used to be in college, but for whatever reason I don't "feel the vibe" anymore. Over the years I've become more self-conscious. I have high confidence in myself otherwise and perhaps dancing like a fool is a pride issue, I don't know. [Image: banana.gif]

I will also say, though, that the absolute trash the DJ is spinning in a lot of bars (esp. in DC) is absolutely a buzz kill. And its very unfortunately, really, because that crappy Miley-Cyrus no talent, formulaic bullshit is exactly what all of the girls absolutely love. At the same time, last night I'd say 80% of girls were dancing and literally maybe 10% of guys (and it was a shit ratio per usual at a DC bar).

I'm kind of a music snob. I have a vinyl collection and really enjoy top quality music. This clashes even more with the above stated trash. I really cannot get myself to just let go and somehow feel the vibe and get into said music.

I really wish I had a button to turn off my brain sometimes, but alas the old "button" was alcohol, and that button no longer works. I'm in my upper 20s now and alcohol isn't as fun. It doesn't remove social inhibitions and make me horny like it used to.

I suppose I could quit whining and just go to different venues (it was a birthday party, so I wasn't picking venues). I think the "dance music" I'd like is rave type music. Or maybe something inbetween like daft punk or aphex twin. Something interesting with an edge at least.

people use music to separate themselves ( the "cool" people) from"old" people by identifying with the artists.

Some Lady Gaga songs are almost direct copies of Madonna songs, right down to the exact chord changes and themes addressed in the lyrics.

However, Madonna is over 50 and Lady is in her mid-twenties, so even though Madonna's arrangers and tunes are somewhat better, girls, being totally sheeplike creatures, have to like Lady Gaga, because they can identify with her.

It has to do with social status and in group/out group, not with musical quality.

All pop music is pretty much crap compared to Stravinsky, Beethoven, or Coltrane; or really classic folk music like Lightning Hopkins. It functions as social prop/group glue, that's all.

At least in the United States, generally speaking, anyplace that plays interesting, esoteric music, you are not going to find an abundance of hot girls. A place like the Knitting Factory in NYC may play interesting music, but it doesn't bring in the hot girls. Hot girls listen to mindless pop and cheesy R&B with a pop beat to it.

For example:
Free jazz: no hot girls
Local indie rock music venue: few hot girls
brazilian music: too esoteric for most americans
80's and 90's hip hop- cool music but brings out few hot non black girls
trance/techno/drum & bass: may find some hot girls here, particularly european chicks
live blues and jazz or piano bars/grateful dead/phish show: ditto

Have heard you may find some hot chicks at Coachella in CA, though.

I was going to suggest bringing earphones and an iPod, but that might look a little weird- then again it could serve as a conversation starter- something cocky, perhaps. [Image: idea.gif]

You won't find an abundance of hot girls anywhere in the United States. Your point is moot.

Venues where you find this kind of music should be the focus of club game, for sure.
