Saw title of post, assumed this was coming from OP himself.
Got the popcorn out like
...then I read the article. Lots of mental gymnastics:
Quote:Quote:
If Christians – or others – really believe life begins at conception, it follows that we should respond by being willing to support embryo adoption and even take part in it ourselves.
The shark. You jumped it.
"Let's show how pro-life we are by taking care of their own children that (supposedly) pro-choice wouldn't want!" Sure, it's not technically cuckolding, but you end up paying for the unwanted children of others. The cuckoo sits in the nest and takes resources away from those who would have had their parents' genes...
"But no, look at how pro-life we are!" ...what, you want a golden sticker or something?
Have been wrestling with how this kind of virtue-signalling came to be. Didn't it use to be that to be worthy of praise, you were first an accomplished, strong man of character of steady and useful employ, who found a beautiful and loving wife and started a cohesive, nuclear family. "This guy's something," people would notice. "What's he doing that I'm not?"
You would listen to this man. If he wrote a book on success, you'd be interested in it. Incidentally, I'm reading Donald Trump's
Art of the Deal right now (just finished the section in which he sold off Swifton Village)...
Ancient Rome would see leaders come to power and respect for their prowess on the battlefield because of individual accomplishment, see (too many examples):
Scipio "Africanus" of Rome, and
the blustery and boastful Coriolanus .
Whereas this guy in the article just shares his life story, seeing his life story worthy of respect and reverence (worthy of attention-that's why you and I are here, I'll admit that) just like how the stories of Trump, Africanus, and Coriolanus are worthy of respect. These three men made a positive impact in their communities (real estate, war, war). The guy in the article? Not someone to be admired, at least in our community. Unfortunately, he has credentials enough for other audiences and communities to celebrate, and what do you know? Our community will call this virtue-signalling.
