Her article seems to be about what could be done to stop anonymous trolls from terrorizing and threatening women. How about prosecuting them, since terroristic threats is already a crime? Unfortunately, as Hess discovers, the police don't care much about online stalking, which is consistent since they don't care about IRL stalking either. But never mind, it's not the problem: misogyny is the problem, amplified 1000x by online anonymity. Anonymity makes the internet mean and gives trolls= men too much power. This is the subtle shift: what starts out as "misogyny is bad" becomes "anonymity facilitates misogyny."

Keeping in mind that actual stalking has never been dealt with in any significant way ever, the desire of a few female writers to curb online anonymity wouldn't be enough to get an @ mention, except that this happens to coincide with what the media wants, and now we have the two vectors summing to form a public health crisis. "Cyberbullying is a huge problem!" Yes, but not because it is hurtful, HA! no one cares about your feelings-- but because criticism makes women want to be more private-- and the privacy of the women is bad. The women have to be online, they do most of the clicking and receive most of the clicks. Anonymous cyberbullying is a barrier to increasing consumption, it's gotta go.

What we're seeing here is a kind of gentrification of high-traffic parts of the internet. These sites want to make money and they're not going to do it through some ad-block, VPN, piratebay, google-fu expert

So the solution would be to have a single owner who respects the principles of the community? What happens if he steps down? Someone please chime in.

Members of a community contribute content and time. Secretly waiting to betray their principles (like free speech) to pander to a more profitable demographic is downright treasonous behavior on the part of the host. Community members in these places have no control over their own content. For example, you sign your copyright over to reddit, facebook, etc. when you post there.

Reddit was always an awkward place. It is built on the same principles that keep casinos in business (gamification), by admission of the co-founder himself. It is really in high gear there. Soon we will see a website which is basically the same but where the gamificiation principles are even more explicit.

Opening up that website in my browser, and seeing all of the gold stars and other bling individuals have there, I feel a tremendous sense of loss.

You only have one life. And now it's banned.

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

Just a technical question how hard is it to create something like reddit? I mean it isn't the most beautiful website out there.

Though, the beauty of capitalism is if there's enough people (like 152,000) that want to post hating on fat people, then someone can build a site to allow them to do so and profit from this. If Reddit continues to take these positions, it will lose the very audience that made it popular; after all, it's always had a reputation for being "that site" and losing that means losing what made it special. This is very similar to what Vox Day mentioned about feminist approved art - boring as Hell.

Consider how boring work has become after feminists and women were allowed to go nuts with HR and how quickly HR became a huge joke?

Just throwing this out there as an idea. Would it benefit anyone from the manosphere to think about building an alternative to Reddit -- and specifically billing it as that?

By this point, I think enough people are disgusted with it that they'd flee if they found a better place. Same goes for Facebook.

This might be the golden opportunity to pull the rug out from under these fools and make some serious bucks. If I had some computer engineering and leadership skills, I'd do it.

It's open source, so you wouldn't have to rebuild it: https://github.com/reddit/reddit. There are already sites using that codebase e.g.: https://voat.co/ & http://lesswrong.com/. The real trick is that it's operationally challenging to support the huge volume of traffic reddit receives; voat is presently receiving a lot of traffic from the now dead /r/fatpeoplehate, and at the time of this post, pretty much unusable due to its inability to handle the load.

Crazy how racism and centuries of hatred and violence toward specific races gets reduced in its comparison to people butthurt about being fat.

A few people on the admin posts commented about all of the minority hate subreddits that the admin don't even bother touching, but they close down the one that hurt their feewings.

This isn't the first time either, in the early 2000s gays have publicly compared their "suffering" to that of pre-Jim Crowe violence against blacks.

Yes and no.

Any site that experiences a sudden, massive, surge of traffic beyond what it's servers can handle will have issues.

If voat had known this was coming they could have raised their capacity and been prepared for it fairly easily.

The demise of Reddit (which is currently underway) due to SJW takeover will be another huge milestone in the culture war, and is going to expose a lot of people to the SJW playbook in the same way that Gamergate did. The people who said things like, "Lol, silly nerds overreacting, liberals aren't trying to take over your video games," will be forced to confront the reality of the SJW menace when Reddit starts blatantly banning subreddits for thought crime.

The SJWs continue to overreach. As they grow more desperate and bold in pushing their political agenda, they unknowingly sow the seeds of their demise by radicalizing an opposition which was previously indifferent or unaware. People are beginning to wake up and realize that they will soon be forced to pick a side: you are either 100% on board with the SJW agenda (which is constantly shifting toward ever-more insane positions) or you are their declared enemy since you stand in the way of "progress". Every time the SJWs do things like this, they simply cause more and more people to recognize their insanity and jump from the neutral (aka acquiescent) camp into the anti-SJW camp.

I wouldn't just chalk this up to SJW influence.

The fatpeoplehate subreddit was harassing individuals, not shaming ideas.

That is why the racists/etc. subreddits were not banned. Those redditors may say things like, "I hate [insert race ... let's say Asian] people." But they didn't post specific photos of Asians who are not in the public eye, and say, "I hate this specific Asian person who works at this specific place." Fatpeoplehate subreddit did.

There is a difference in the two, and that is why the racist subs are still live, and the fatpeoplehate is not. (I made a similar argument in this thread: http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-46976-...pid1009965)

They didn't ban /r/coontown yet somehow? [Image: lol.gif]

Pretty funny. Mocking fat people directly offends neon haired types, for reasons obvious. Racism only indirectly offends them.

Reddit started off years back as a pretty cool haven of off the wall technolibertarian thinking and free speech, and piece by piece has sold it's soul to far leftism.
Faster and harder they censor things, the more their user base will deteriorate. Good riddance.

You have an embarrassing lack of understanding regarding how SJWs operate. Let's revisit this thread in a year's time and see how many more controversial subreddits were banned in that time for "harassment" and "creating an unsafe space". My guess is that it will be well over a dozen, and will include The Red Pill (for being "sexist" and "threatening to women").

What happened today was just the camel's nose entering the tent. The rest of the camel is sure to follow before long.

Imgur banned NSFW content in comments a week ago and some people were upset. Sarah couldn't take the criticism so, right out of the feminist playbook, she started playing a victim - even claiming she was getting death threats!

A few of my friends got banned just for questioning the existence of these threats. It's sad that sooooo many people were white knighting this Sarah chick HARD!
