Ayaan Hirsi Ali slams American feminism as "trivial bullshit"

For those that don't know Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a Somali-born survivor of female circumcision, and a critic of Islam. She wrote the film Theo Van Gogh was killed for ("Submission" - watch here), and her autobiography is titled "Infidel." She is a big name activist, and her criticism of Islam has made her a target of SJWs and campus protests. Yesterday, she had this to say:

Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a harsh critic of Islam’s treatment of women, said Wednesday that modern American feminism is focused on “trivial bullshit” and needs to be reclaimed.

Quote:Quote:

“Feminists in this country and in the West fought against that and won the battle,” she added.

But now, Hirsi Ali said, feminism has taken that victory and squandered it.

“What we are now doing with the victory, and I agree with you if you condemn that and I condemn whole-heartedly the trivial bullshit it is to go after a man who makes a scientific breakthrough and all that we as women — organized women — do is to fret about his shirt?” Hirsi Ali said, referring to the controversy generated by the shirt featuring cartoons of scantily-clad women worn by the scientist who helped land a robot on a comet. “We must reclaim and retake feminism from our fellow idiotic women.”

Instead, feminism needs to fight the real war on women: Radical Islam and other parts of the world where women don’t even have the right to an education or to leave their home without a male guardian.

I love the thought-crime on this woman.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a feminist that the RVF can respect. Women who grew up in the third world are generally disgusted at the entitlement and lack of perspective that typifies western feminism, for good reason. In 1970's Mumbai, where my mother grew up, dowry burnings were a widespread problem--these were where women who didn't pay their husbands a large enough dowry were locked in their kitchens and set on fire. That's real, actual misogyny. Actual rape cultures exist around the world, and women who've experienced them have no time for the farce that calls itself modern feminism.

That is pretty fucking unbelievable. I know I shouldn't be surprised. But come on now, that is just ridiculous. And incredibly cruel, to burn someone alive? Damn.

I respect the hell out of that woman. She actually lives her convictions. I can see why men like Christopher Hitchens and Niall Ferguson, who ended up marrying her, greatly admire her. She was on a couple of Bill Maher episodes and her despite her strong convictions, she has a very feminine and graceful way about her.
The women I befriend and date tend to be very well-educated and mostly foreign-born (Russian, East and West African, a sprinkling of East Asians and Latinas) and Hirsi's view has been expressed by them on numerous occasions. I know that whole Slut-Walk phenomena really turned a lot of them off Western style white feminism.

This is real talk, real problems, real issues.

A tshirt IS trivial bullshit.

Once again it's the average college white girl who screams about their first world problems in the states.

Which is NOTHING compared to the brutal treatment some get in other countries.

I'd like to see the femiamericunts pull this bullshit in other countries they protest about, they'd get the hammer QUICK.

I once dated an Iraqi refugee who was kidnapped for three days when she was living in Baghdad. During her ordeal, not only was she humiliated by her captors but she saw her ex-fiancée shot point blank in the head right in front of her. This girl would often wake up crying and scared out of her mind after dreaming of flashbacks. She shared many of the same views as Hirsi and disliked anglo women just as much as we do.

And our women complain about goddamn bowling shirts.

Makes me sick.

This wouldn't be "reclaiming". That would imply feminism wasn't filled with angry marxist lesbians from the start... also, any positive changes to feminism will be stopped before they can be implemented by people with vested interests in the toxic side effects of the movement.

This woman clearly means well, but I stand by what I've said before; a much better plan is to make feminism even more toxic, so the ideological immune-response of the general population kicks in and they marginalise feminists like nazis and KKK supporters.

Yes, I do agree that Anglo white female feminism is just unchecked power, and I'm simultaneously surprised that a Hirsi Ali is calling out the abuse of power by her WF counterparts and sad how her Anglo WF/Anglicized variants are using her for their own personal means.

There's a difference between Anglo feminism and feminism in the rest of the world. Thats the difference between Lindy West and this woman.

I used to think that modern feminism and it's obsession with trivialities was the result of "affluence", but now think it is more a reflection of the psychological quagmire of the middle class. We all know what it is, because most of us are probably it's victims as well. Too poor to have any real power, too rich to have a "don't give a fcuk" attitude. "Moaning about nothing", which is what contemporary feminism really is, is a typical result of this powerlessness. Basically anytime you hear someone describing themselves as an "activist" or engaging in "raising awareness" you should read it as a sign the speaker is stuck in the middle and unhappy about it. Real people, rich or poor, don't have any time for this nonsense.

Probably the biggest disagreement I have with may on this board. The destructive forces of contemporary feminism and political correctness are not a product of the "elite". They are the product of middle class disaffection. Its true that some of the elite, especially the left leaning political class, make use of this for voting purposes. But I do not believe their heart is in it.

Her book Infidel was incredible. I highly recommend it. Its basically about her life growing up, and she had quite an awful childhood.

Many youtube videos on her. She is well spoken and an eloquent speaker. Judge her however you want, we need more people like her standing up to various social issues, religion or other concerns in society.
