Shorts in the summer?

I'm not a big fan of shorts. I hardly wear them even when it's hot out. When I was in Colombia I noticed almost nobody wears shorts, even when it's hot as shit.

Shorts are strictly an American phenomenon in the city I think.

Beach environments are a little different.

If it is a city with a beach ie Barcelona, the city takes the beach ie no shorts (unless maybe in Barcelonetta).

If it is a surf city ie Biarritz, shorts are cool during the day, but at night no shorts.

Here is an EZ Guide as far as I see it:

City Environment: No Shorts.

Beach City: No Shorts (unless at beach).

Surf City: Shorts Ok during day, 86 them at night.

You guys are way off here with some of those gay azz pictures. I don't wear pants except at night if I go out and it's 50 degrees.

I'll add to this thread if you guys like and take pictures of my clothes and shoes. I started a summer style thread last year and dudes kept posting suit pictures. Honestly I can't understand how people wear pants they're so restrictive, hot and uncomfortable.

Some rules listen up..

Socks: No show or low. They should match your clothes and not be run of the mill wal-mart. Get them at sports authority.

Shoes: No gay sandals, gay flip flops or gay slip on leather shoes. No gay topsiders unless you're a Canadian tourist.
Do wear cool light running shoes, vans, skate shoes, low hiking shoes and cool retro sneakers like suede pumas or Adidas soccer old school.

Shorts: Board shorts to the knee. I'll post a pic but you want a button and pockets. Not cargo or side pockets they add too much weight and if they get wet it's like carrying an extra 10 lbs plus they look like ass.
[attachment=10992]

Shirts: Fitted T try to find them plain and thin or at night button down short sleeves lightweight. I'll find a pic.
[attachment=10993]
Something like that at night. If your shorts have pattern keep the shirt solid and if your shirt has pattern keep the shorts solid color.

I cannot for the life of me feel comfortable rocking a pair of shorts. THE ONLY TIME I wear shorts is during construction work, otherwise, they're a no-no.

I live in the DR and no one wears shorts. If I am at the beach, I will wear short. In the city, I always wear pants. I do wear flip flops all the time.

You are wearing the wrong pants.

I mean, look at Bruce Lee in a warm Hong Kong summer night:

Not restrictive. Not hot. Not uncomfortable.

^^ I see there is another MFA'er on these boards.

Basically, my plan is to wear khaki/light shorts that fit just above the knee (no cargo pockets) with white canvas sneakers (no socks) and a fitted t shirt (almost any colour works). If I am out during the day maybe add a pair of sunglasses.

For a night on the town, pretty much what I wear year round.. Jeans/chinos, dress shoes/sneakers (depending on the occasion), and a fitted t shirt with a leather jacket depending on the context.

That goes to show you how retarded they are. On an island hot as balls they wear pants because of some formal spanish tradition just like Mexicans here landscaping wearing pants and long sleeves.

@Emancipator

Out of all those shorts the one up in the right corner is the only one I`d want to wear...

The clothing style of many of the members seem to be quite posh and generally looks like everyone want to dress up like you are in a fashion magazine... I think it looks semi-gay to be honest.

I disagree. I like the style, but this is something you have to be absolutely comfortable with to pull it off.

You'd have to be Captain Frat Douche if you're comfortable dressing like this.

Maybe. But I believe it's all about your reality. If its something that you believe suits you and you feel comfortable and content wearing, without the subtext of trying to impress others with an eccentric outfit, it would work great. Sure, you might get looks from men and women who don't appreciate your fashion choices, but you'd also get positive attention from women who do.

More on the 'reality' subject. I have a buddy that I go out with regularly and he dresses the opposite to what would be 'fashion appropriate'. He uses loose fitting dark t-shirts with black jeans and black sneakers on the regular to clubs where the average person is dressed in attire including blazers, dress shirts and pants, and leather shoes. Despite all this, in his reality he is comfortable with how he dresses, and with that alone does better than the well dressed guys who may not be comfortable but dress that way because 'it is what is expected'. It is no doubt with a strong reality like his that he is very good with women.

It's like game. Everyone has their own unique style, which others may or may not relate to. But as long as it works for you, it doesn't matter at all.

Shorts are a very dubious proposition, stylistically. IMO, they're appropriate only for the privacy of your own backyard, or at the beach. Young guys can get away with wearing them in public through their 20s, as long as it's a place where everyone dresses like slobs. They should be khaki and should come to just above the knee. And no socks.

For sure, I agree with this.

Shit man, people dress so sloppy here in Denver, I could get away with wearing just about anything. But that's just not how I roll.

I believe simple sneakers without socks also work really well.

Take the second from the left for instance.

I used to with a cat that retired out of SF. He had monster calves and wore shorts all the time. It worked to his advantage. I have white legs and never wear shorts. It also goes with personality. Emech rolls with them and can get away it. Others can't.

As to what others have said about it being too hot to wear long pants? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Pussies.
