I just downloaded the kindle app two days ago, which was cheaper than buying the actual device. Got it so I could download Decoding Air Travel from the Amazon Kindle store. The whole system was easy and efficient to use.

I have one. It's ok, but it's not a real tablet, which is expected for $199. But, at the same time you want it to do things you know you shouldn't expect, ya know? Software is a little un-optimized, but should get better (it's already had 2 updates). Decent for consuming media, and as an LCD kindle, but it's really not that great for surfing the web, I'll tell you that. The Silk browser is slower than I expected, and is still slow even after it should have figure out what sites I browse. Browsing this site is a bit of a pain, the 7" screen is just too small to render text without having to zoom in.
Appears to be hackable and I think people have put Cyanogen Mod 7 on it, and I think it recently had a pseudo-port of Ice Cream Sandwich, but I no longer have the time or inclination to hack this stuff.
I'm going to get an iPad 3 when it comes out. This thing is like banging but not coming; fun but unsatisfying.
