My intent with this was to separate ourselves from other American tourists on that site and come off as fun, interesting and non-creepy (achieved?). Are u specifically referring to being hosted by females?
If you are trying to be hosted by even an average looking female under say 35 in most western countries it will be extremely difficult.The majority of females on couchsurfing in these countries are using the site to travel for free and have zero interest in ever hosting any males at their place.

The community claims the site isnt about dating but think about it would you be cool with your girlfriend hosting some random foreign dude at her place? Not even addressing the protest from her likely female roomate who wont understand why there is some random dude in the living room.

Reinvent yourself to look better. Try to go to an event and get people leave reviews boost your status.

While living abroad..for every review..the amount of people willing to host me..or send request went up

In Colombia it seems couch surfing isn't what it used to be; sort of like badoo. 5 yrs ago in Medellin, I got a respnse rate close to 40 or 45 percent for meeting and having a drink. Now in Cali, it was 10 to 15 percent.

Icarus that makes sense. I will say that I was depending on my looks but even that's not getting anywhere! I feel like for a website that pretends to help people meet each other from any corner of the globe, there seems to be too much bullshit to wade through. Have you had success with CS? I'm not just talking about bangs but actually surfing.

You shouldn't expect to get couch requests accepted every time you send one, from girls or guys. If you think about it, people are offering for you to stay in their place for free, so if you are not coinciding with their schedules well, they probably won't host you.

There could be a bunch of reasons for this. One of the obvious ones is how far in advance you are asking them. I find a little extra heads up goes a long way. Sometimes they are just super busy or won't be available during the time you ask. This is normal for couchsurfing.

I know that when I was hosting in Montreal, a couple of people asked me during finals period and I had no desire whatsoever to host them during that time.

It also matters "how" you ask them. Just sending a quick message asking to stay at their place isn't the best thing. There is some "courtship" involved in the process even if it's a strictly business/platonic negotiation. Mentioning something they had on their profile and/or having some simple back and forth conversations makes quite a difference.

Or as someone pointed out, it may be profile related but I think the above factors are actually more important. You have to remember that people are doing you a pretty big solid here, so you have to recognize that and give some effort on your end as well.

Also to Icarus, this isn't really true. Loads of guys host other guys all the time and it has nothing to do with references. Many people use CS for different reasons, there is actually a minority of people who use it for anything sexual related. The vast majority of CSers fall into the "pay it forward/like to meet other people from other countries" category and are doing it just for fun or a little spice in their life.

True. Hell I've hosted married couples because they were salsa instructors and promised to give me personal lessons. I don't host anymore but when I did I host guys and couples if they they seemed particularly interesting. But any girl traveling solo that was at least a 6 and didn't look dirty had an instant fast pass.
