It's funny how a while ago a lot of American guys here where putting Romanian and Hungarian girls on the pedestal and were suggesting there to go looking for a wife and now starting to complain. I don't know enough about Romanian culture to know what separates them but if I was looking for a wife I think Romania might be a great place. While many of the hotter girls will take off and work in brothels short term to stack up some $ and others will work in webcams you can still find many solid girls. I went on many dates with Romanian girls while I was there and while it was a shit place for easy bangs the girls I did meet had good personalities and values.

Like any place if you are looking for a wife you have to screen for the top 5% or so. I could say the same about Colombia and Vietnam, while both places have plenty of whores if you find the girls who have their shit together and come from good families they can be great long term options.

And an important point which has to be considered is this:

The girls actually believe that you are a sort of loser for just coming there, even if your income is 4 times higher than the local average. Obviously it depends on the guy himself but in general I don't think you will have much of an exotic foreigner advantage. I was almost always asked by girls and guys why I would travel to Romania and why I had learned romanian on a level where I'm able to have minor discussions. They would give me this strange look as if I was an idiot for coming there and is if I was a loser for bothering about learning romanian (and in retrospect they were right, I should never have set my foot there).

If you're naive enough to go there anyway I'd suggest to keep away from the Eastern parts and focus more on the western parts where you'll have more native Hungarians and more polite people. Mamaia beach is beautiful and is next to Constanta and the black sea and has some cool clubs, and there were some hot girls but it's hard since the club sluts are usually not that polite even if you like me, speak the language to some extent.

I agree with the scamming, I haven't been to Bucharest in many years but when I was there they tried (and mostly succeeded) to scam me at every opportunity, Taxi, foreign exchange, even the metro ffs.

Also I was in another Romanian city with a friend and he was relieved of his phone.

To be fair, you started it with your assessment of Bucharest. If you think you'll find eager and willing teenage unicorns in another city you may well be disappointed. Certainly they exist in substantial numbers in Europe too, mostly streetwalkers I would imagine, but in many of the Western European countries with legalized prostitution (and probably also some of those without) you can walk into a 20-50 Euros run down brothel for a quickie with a 7-8, even the occasional 9, frequently Russian or Romanian girl in her early 20s, and some likely only just legal.

A Romanian girl with no university eduction working a regular job in Romania might make around 500 Euros per month, and even a well educated Romanian - except for the very highest salaries - will still only earn perhaps a third or less of a Western European.
And while basic costs of living in many Eastern European countries is substantially lower than in the west, going out and buying eg. TV, smartphones etc. costs exactly the same as in Western Europe. Even shoes and clothes and other necessary non-food items are in many cases costly compared to income level.
It's not hard to see why even a pretty young girl might be tempted to work the brothels in richer countries - higher end establishments if she can get a job there, the cheaper less attractive ones if she can't (she might be pretty, but there are after all, as some have pointed out in this thread, a limit to the number of available jobs in the various establishments).

What is a bit surprising to me however is that the prostitute profession does seem to attract more girls from some poor countries than others. There are plenty of Bulgarian prostitutes but the nr of Romanian ones is higher because of the larger population.

Also in Bulgaria there is a semi legalised prostitution so many of the bulgarian girls just stay there.

I also think that the nr of the Ukrainian prostitutes is higher than the nr of the Russian ones.

A culture of selling your body for money was created in eastern europe these 30 years and this is the simple reality.

However probably prostitution for money is more honest than the money free cockrusel "prostitution" that happens with western women who can not count how many guys they have banged.

Was in Bucharest around 9 years ago aswell.
By the most part the women seemed friendly, there were some clubs overloaded with women, and seemed super easy with anyone up for the picking.
My experience in Romanian women is :
Average looks, no intellectual curiosity or zest for life, poor in the bed room, and generally seek validation and quite prostituty. Not really worth my time.
Serbia, Hungary, and Bulgaria however is a different thing.

There's some good advice here from people who have been to Romania. I'm always on the look out for my next country to visit with a view to moving to or at least spending a long time there.
