Best time to visit X

When is the best time to visit country or city x? And why?
I begin with Switzerland:
Daygame, comfortable temperatures: (2nd half of April), May, June, (2nd half of August), September, (1st half of October). Often too hot in July and the first half of August, for my taste.
Nightgame: 2nd half of May, June, 2nd half of August, September. Lots of people are in vacation in July and in the first half of August. However, if you prefer outdoor festivals, July and August are the best months.

If you have good logistics and just visit for bangs, first half of December and whole February are nice for Stockholm.
People are in the bars and clubs, so it is more concentrated. And people drink more. In Jan many want to reduce their consumption but fall back in Feb.
Strictly avoid midsommar in the city as all the people go to countryside with families.

French Riveria is a blast in June. Had the time of my life. I know that the french do prefer taking later vacations though.

I was in Tokyo for a few weeks in March and the weather was nearly perfect. A bit chilly at night but absolutely comfortable every day, never too hot, and never so cold that I felt I needed more than a sweatshirt.

I'm planning to visit Japan again in November if I can get the time away from work; if not then definitely going back next March.
I've heard the summer is fairly miserable, and with the Olympics being held in Tokyo next July I definitely won't be visiting regardless. I am planning a summer 2021 visit though to climb Mt. Fuji as it's something I've always wanted to do.

The saying is that if you go to Japan and don't climb Mt. Fuji then you are bound to come back to Japan. Obviously it's bullshit but I never climbed it when I was there and now I keep returning there pretty much every year lol.
I remember watching the Tokyo Nights episode of Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown which includes the following quote that I now feel as though I understand.
Quote:Quote:
I often compare the experience of going to Japan for the first time, going to Tokyo for the first time, to what Eric Clapton and Pete Townshend—the reigning guitar gods of England—must have gone through the week that Jimi Hendrix came to town.
You hear about it. You go see it. A whole window opens up into a whole new thing. And you think, What does this mean? What do I have left to say? What do I do now?
Shortly before leaving I was talking with my half-Japanese cousin who told me, "Once you go to Japan, you're going to want to go again and again for the rest of your life."
I fucking believe it. Two weeks and three dates with zero bangs, but the excitement of seeing something so absolutely different from what I've been used to my whole life (middle-sized midwestern city) coupled with an LTR breakup after 8 yrs. has given me a very fresh perspective on life and what I want to do moving forward.
My friend went to Japan for some gnarly hand tattoos from one of the better regarded Japanese tattoo masters. He spent like 2 weeks there. I get the feeling and the impression, I might add, that Japan is an otherworldly place. Now, is there a white god factor there? I'm inclined to believe so.
My friend showed me so many cool photos, that I myself think that I have to get over there as soon as possible. The Japanese are based, whether it is there trucks driving around with loudspeakers spouting right-wing propaganda, or their killing of dolphins for school lunches. And of course can not forget the fact that all the cell phones must be sold with cameras that have an audible shutter sound (don't ask me the rationale behind that one). But, most of all, I just want to be able to drink mixed beverages out of cans and smoke like a salaryman...

I'll do my country.
The best time to visit South Africa was 20 years ago... No, seriously:
1. Cape Town - November through right up until early Feb - amazing in summer,
2. Durban - All year round (slightly humid in December but still great);
3. Johannesburg - Don't visit, seriously don't visit.

I think the era of the white god factor has probably long passed. It's not going to result in women approaching you except in Roppongi maybe.
The cell phones are sold with mandatory shutter sounds because of too many creeps taking upskirt photos on the trains.
If you want to smoke like a salaryman you should probably get to Tokyo sooner rather than later as a heavy smoking ban is being implemented ahead of next summer's Olympics. You'll still be able to drink anywhere and everywhere legally, though.
Yes, actually this worries me and i heard about how the olympics could affect a potential smoking ban. They always basically force a smoking ban. As a two pack a day smoker, yeah, need to be there sooner than later.
