I don't consider myself a socialist, but I do think universal health care is a good idea, or at least preferable to whatever shitshow we have now. Reducing out $600 billion military budget? Makes sense to me. We got much bigger fish to fry than playing war games in the Middle East.
You’re right about the Middle East. I’d love to just pack up and leave for good.
And while we are at it, I’d like to reduce all foreign aid packages that get automatic annual renewal to $0. That money should go to help our United States citizens, starting with military veterans and the homeless. Each time we need to spend money on a foreign country, congress should have the answer to the question, “what is this for and how does this mutually benefit the recipients abroad and our country? The taxpayers need to know before they approve it.”
Our healthcare system couldn’t possibly handle universal care, we already have areas that need more qualified doctors and nurses. We don’t want a system like Canada. Their rich and elite come here cause they don’t want to stand in line and wait and see if the algorithm determines if they are worth the government’s medical investment. We have 10X the population of Canada currently in the USA, not officially counting the illegals that are sucking up time in no refusal county hospitals. Sounds good, won’t work!
I’m also in favor of a drastic cut in free federal aid for doing nothing. More jobs and opportunity for people do something if they want can be achieved over time but the welfare system is broken now. There is a fortune being made by big corporations that provide a place for these programs to drain into (what doesn’t go to illegal substances, that is). A very large portion of taxpayer dollars is pure theft, with a very small percentage actually making a positive difference. And if our country was debt-free, I wouldn’t be nearly as pissed about those columns on my pay stub. However, if you’re gonna take 25-40% from us, at least don’t tell me that “we” can’t find a way to reduce a $20T deficit.
I don’t want to see our military budget be anything less than it needs to be based on current valid initiatives, but at least we are now asking for others to pay their fair share for defense. Would really like our soldiers to be paid a higher salary for their service.
Now, these “crazy” ideas will never be realized, not until there’s no other choice at least, but what I can’t understand is, why do collective ideas sound so good to so many individuals? The fact the socialist, including this newest one, won’t even stop to visualize what the impact would be (or just look at Venezuela) is absolutely insane.
