Curious how you guys are evaluating this.

Presumably no one really has an information advantage. If everone is getting the same info from the same sources, how are such high returns possible? If everyone expects it to blow up, isn't that expectation already baked into the price?

Crypto seems to defy conventional investing reasoning. What am I missing -- if it happens, what are the market dynamics of this going up 5x, 10x etc in a year?

People don't all get their info from the same sources.

That said, Crypto prices are reliant on two major dynamics:

1.) Nobody knows how to price a crypto. I can look at a company's stock and say, "OK this stock should be worth 15x their annual earnings, based on where they are in the industry, what their growth plans are, etc." There's lots of established ways for doing this.
There is no good way, however, to price a crypto. Some people have tried, but at the end of the day, the cost of a bitcoin is "What somebody else will pay for it" and nothing else. Since nothing can be over priced in this model, returns can theoretically be infinite.

2.) Most crypto traders took out their initial investment a long time ago and are "playing with house money". This makes it easy for them to be rash and reckless, because they don't have any "real" money to lose.

Nice, thanks. Especially that second point - hadn't considered that at all.

Also in the case of Vechain the price is being suppressed. There's massive sell walls keeping the price down. Whenever the price starts to go down, they disappear. When they start to get nibbled at, they move.

Right now it's about 280BTC worth on the BTC side. They're also there on the ETH pairing.

The whale(s) involved are keeping the price down to accumulate.

As an update, Jim Breyer added Vechain to his portfolio after talking it up in a Medium piece.

The sell walls have been destroyed and the price is rising rapidly. $5.76 right now.

Buy it when it’s down. It will go down. They all do.

Right now 50+% of my crypto holdings are in VEN. This one is a true gem and will leave many other major coins behind in the next few months. After their rebranding to VET the available supply will be very limited. Millions of VET will be locked up in masternodes which will leave about 10-20% of the current supply available for trading. Although Binance whales are still keeping its price low, it managed to gain 50% when all other coins fell today. Buy it while you can.

It's going up like a rocket. Have some percentage of my holdings in VEN. Where do you guys expect this to go to?

$10 in the next week, easy.

Once the actual mainnet gets released in Q2 I'm expecting at least $30. Maybe more.

Unless the entire crypto market crashes, which it might, I can’t see VET being lower than $20 in a year from now. The long term potential is just insane. Once they are actually using the VET network in a few of their partners industries nothing will stop it.

Agreed. Buying at ATH is always a risky decision. Especially if mainnet is not until next quarter.

Current marketcap : 1.7 Billion. After the rebranding and announcements, when China tobacco, PwC and some Fortune 500 clients companies start launching ICO's on VET's new Blockchain X (amassing huge quantities of VET to generate THOR to power the transaction), it will rocket to the top—it's a top-5 coin. That puts it at 20 billion (equal to Cardano). But the market as a whole is growing. Let's say Ven's new share will be 50 billion. That's $180 per VET. I'm not saying it will happen by the end of the year... but it may well happen by the end of 2019.

Buy more than you need for a masternode (maybe 14k total) so you have a little extra to put into the ICOs.

I sleep sounder with VET than with any other crypto, and sunny is an absolute charmer.

Expect a big pump this week. CocaColaKid has teased a partnership with China Tobacco, which is the Chinese tobacco monopoly.

When that announcement goes official, that should be a nice big spike in the price.

VeChain officially announces exclusive licensing partnership with Chinese consultancy firm NRCC to provide blockchain solutions to China National Tobacco Corporation.

The cryptic CocaColaKid came through again, signaling VeChain's partnership announcement with his own tweet several hours prior.

This sounds like big news since China Tobacco apparently has a monopoly over its national tobacco market, which consumes 30% of the world's cigarettes. I also think it's a bigger deal that VeChain is partnered with NRCC and could get preference for future agreements in providing blockchain solutions to NRCC's rolodex of clients, notably GM and Hisense.

Link to VeChain's announcement medium post.
