Hi guys, I will be living in St. Petersburg for 3 to 4 months beginning in June. I'll be studying Russian at the universities there.

I've read all your posts and gather that the best place to live is really Nevsky Prospect (Neva) and that, while it's a small place, the options are really the northern part closer to Rubenstein and the Neva train station (for day game), a bit further south by Mayakovskaya which is a bit quieter or even further south by the original center, at the Ploschad Vosstaniya.

I'm a bit of a logistics junkie. I like to get up and roll out of bed and go to Starbucks and to the gym...not to mention take girls out to cafes and bars that are literally on my street corner for easier bangs, and general efficiency. I don't mind paying higher rent for this privilege.

I already read about the advice to live at least 1 to 2 blocks away from Neva so that your dates don't see you with other girls and also because it's quieter.

What are your thoughts on the above? Although I love to day game, so i'd love to live right by cafes and things...

1) El Copitas. A very small and intimate "secret" cocktail bar where you have to reserve seats. You call when you're on the street and they'll come out to pick you up. You can even go there after clubbing at like 5 in the morning and it'll be packed. To get there, you go into the mall at the corner of Mayakovskaya station and then to the fifth floor. You can get out of paying the entrance fee if you convince them you are from Latin America.

It sounds like your ideal flat would be right on Rubinstein towards the Nevsky end. Don't stay further "north" as that's where the tourist attractions are and where it's full of tourist trap restaurants and shops ripping foreigners off. If anything, stay more towards Mayakovskaya. Going further "south", you'd be close to Galeria for day game, but it's really not as nice as.

Save these locations on your maps: Duo Asia, El Copitas, Kabinet, Golitsyn Loft, Gosti, Loft Proyekt Etazhi, Do Immigration, Kvartira Kosti Kroytsa, Tiger Lily, New Holland Island, Salsa club Nevsky 71/1. Congrats, you now know all the gems when it comes to restaurants, bars and clubs in Piter. Everything else, you'll find on your own no problem.

I wouldn't worry too much about girls seeing you with other girls. Especially if you're only staying 3-4 months. There's no added value in staying right on Nevsky compared to a side street like Rubinstein or Marata though.

You seem to confuse nevsky avenue with Neva (the actual river).

Also keep in mind that Nevsky is not a small place, it's a huge avenue that would take about an hour or more to walk from one end to the other.

I don't think there is such thing as "Neva train station", you probably mean Moskovsky vokzal which is right by Ploshad Vosstaniya.

Saint Petersburg is not some small town like say, Tallin or Krakow it's actually one of Europe's largest cities and the centre is pretty big.

Personally, I'd choose somewhere around Rubinshteina which has loads of bars although, you're right in that you can't go wrong living right on nevsky or say, near mayakovskaya metro (there's some really nice flats around pushkinskaya ulitsa for example).
