One of my all time favorites was Gary Thorne, the guy who called NHL when it was on ESPN. I wish he had come over to NBC. The guys who take the cake though are Jack Edwards who does the Bruins games and Rick Jeannerette who's the Sabres play by play guy. I'm a huge fan of guys like Cuthbert & Gord Miller who are now calling NBC Sports games since TSN got outbid by Sportsnet/CBC for all their NHL coverage. It's like having access to NHL Center Ice for out of market games minus paying for that service. Cuthbert has more of that golly gee shucks vibe which resonates with more of an old school Canadian hockey audience.
Despite being a Canucks homer, I'm a huge fan of Jim Hughson when he's not calling Vancouver games. Best voice in hockey by far though his commentating feels much more uninspiring & corporate being relegated to all these Leafs games.
Everything in the Canadian market seems catered towards Toronto fans so that's why everybody in the country HATES the Leafs.
I think ABC/ESPN hung onto Gary Throne because he is amazing baseball commentator. He almost makes sitting through an entire MLB game bearable not to mention he may have called home run derbies in the past too. Great voice.
As for Jack Edwards, my favorite homer-rific call of his....
I remember listening to Nucks Games with Jim Hughson like crazy when the Nucks were on top between 09-11. Jim was so good that I never minded staying up til 3-4 in the morning
I wonder what will happen in Game 7 between Stars/Blues. Stars D hasn't exactly allowed too many high quality shots as the best opportunities for the Blues merely stem from getting the puck on net with traffic at the net....either that..or creating good chances via outworking the Dallas defence in the corners & keeping the puck within the offensive zone using relentless a forecheck. Wear out the Stars D so the top Dallas lines can't spring back with an odd man rush.
Will Bishop be healthy enough come game 7? Good no call on that Blues goal when Bishop went down.
Also..the THOTs at Stars games are usually hotter than those in game 6...still...WHS as well

That's going to be an epic game 7 between Dal and Stl. Even if Khudobin has to play, he's up to the task. Here's hoping that Columbus and Colorado both win tonight so that we get two more game 7s to watch.

Yeah most of these gals at Stars games have wandering eyes even if they're "accompanied there." Chicks are approachable at games...much moreso than Dallas Mavericks home contests where females are much more standoffish.
I took RVF member Aquarius to a Stars game during his Dallas visit as he was not shy at all about making his approaches lol.

I think it's a terrific hire as they were at a standstill with lesser known candidates. Big key is to get more two way scoring wingers that can play top 6 minutes, a true 3rd line/4th center...preferably a right shot guy, and then get another right shot defenceman. Oilers already have good right shot D prospects in the pipeline but no need to rush those guys

Those two Dallas thots traveled to StL to sit in the exact same seats behind the Dallas coach lol. Then there's some dude with long blond hair dressed up in a dress with some pretend tits hanging out sitting behind the StL coach. This series just keeps on giving.

That wrap-around should've been the game. Net was open. If only players could properly tuck it at the end, it'd be a significantly more successful move. Who did it? Zuccarello right? You'd think he would be able to pull that off of all people.

Andrew Cogliano also had a wide open net on the backhand of the first OT as well...he was always criticized in Edmonton for his lack of hands/finish thus creating struggles as a winger..not good enough on faceoffs as a center too.
His speed created a lot of opportunities nevertheless in the OT periods.

What a finish! Bishop was out of this world tonight, kept Dallas in it all night but I think the more deserving team pulled it out in the end. I picked StL to be in the final and I think they can get there against either Col or SJ.
Once was not, the wrap around looks way easier to do than it is. That final turn to put the puck in is such a sharp turn that most guys end up putting it off of the goalie's pad at a more obtuse angle. Still it looks dramatic when you see it. Tomorrow nights game should be another epic game in an epic series in an epic playoffs.

Rask reminding me of 2011 Tim Thomas lately.
Rask is the reason the Bruins outlasted Toronto and took out Columbus in 6. If the Bruins win the cup, he'll win the Conn Smythe.
I forgot to mention that another funny thing about last nights game was that they took the chick announcer off and replaced her with Olcyzk lol. The feedback on her must have been terrible.
So I was listening to NHL on Sirius XM this morning and Mark Johnson was talking about how Jamie Benn uses a straighter stick with little toe curve which would have been a factor in him not being able to wrap the puck all the way around. He said Seguin and Radulov have much greater toe curves so if it had been one of them with the puck, they would have likely scored since you can wrap it around tighter with a greater toe curve. Very interesting observation I thought.

Canes coming in looking like the strongest team yet BJ beat Tampa who had the best record in the NFL Regular season so not counting Boston out... down to the final 4.

Good game last night.
Sharks played a strong third period by letting the Avs run all over. They had a few really good chances though, and the offside call - no goal was pretty tough call. I would have challenged the challenge though. That shit sucked for the Avs.

Tim Thomas stood on his head the year Boston won the cup, he was nothing short of a great goaltender when it really mattered. The next year (or two years later, cant remember) when the Bruins made it back to the finals with a young highly touted Rask in net, this happened.
I've never trusted Rask since then, and many times I've wished they would have traded him. He's never proven himself, he's never come through in the clutch, at times this season he looked pathetic. But it does look like hes in the zone right now, so we'll see how it plays out.
He might be extremely talented, but in Boston we don't give a fuck, we expect championships, and if you get it done as an ugly blue collar fucker like Tim Thomas we love you even more.

On the second goal, the shot from the point was deflected, hit the post and Bolland got inside position on Boychuck to knock it in. Not much Rask could do there I think. Bruins were great that year but no one was beating the Hawks that year.

Yes, the 2011 Bruins sucked at scoring. Thomas is not a great goalie, but that playoff run he had was legendary.
I'm not saying it was all Rasks fault, but its the finals, hes the goaltender in whats possibly the last minute of your entire season, and TWO get by. That hawks team was nasty though.
Bruins also had a good shutdown D core back then and a lot younger Chara, Tim Thomas had like 2-3 good seasons with a low amount of starts for a number 1.

Nathan Horton was doing nothing in the series then after he was injured Shawn Thornton slotted in for him he threw his weight around. Boston did a lot of cheap shots and nothing was being called by the refs.

I've always perceived Rask as a goaltender who got way too much money for stopping high quantities of lower quality scoring opportunities. The Bruins skaters have always been great positionally at defence causing low percentage shots from the perimeter.
I will however say Rask has evolved & proved me wrong this season until now.
Boston is often characterized as a dirty team that creates it's scoring chances through it's aggressive forechecking & adept work in the corners. I however think they're quite underrated in their puck possession game as well. Pure skill guys like Krecji, Marchand, and Pastrnak would've been just finesse floaters without the puck if they weren't bred in the Bruins system but can contribute in all facets of the game due to the their time & dedication in Boston.
It's sad that Loui Eriksson didn't work out in Boston because he was a finesse playmaker that excelled in all aspects as a Dallas Star...PK, PP, even strength, and many clutch goals which is why the Bruins felt he fit the criteria of their system....this coming from a guy who can't stand the Stars.
Much like how Paul Kariya was never the same after the Scott Stevens hit, Mike Milbury strongly believes Eriksson did not fully recapture his best form on a consistent basis after this John Scott elbow cheap shot:
Speaking of which, Joffrey Lupul was never able to fully meet his potential in the remainder of his career after this hit by his own teammate Derian Hatcher
