Santa Cruz, Bolivia

I banged a sexy latina in the states a few years back and was surprised to learn she was Bolivian. She had more of a sultry "Colombian" look and and was nothing like the 4'10" andean women I pictured in La Paz with the bowler hats. She told me that her family was from Santa Cruz the most ethnically diverse part of Bolivia. I did some research and learned that this city is where all of the beauty pageants are held and plastic surgery is extremely popular. This city of 2 million is never talked about, definitely off the beaten path and claims to boast the most beautiful women in the country.

Anyone been?

I haven't been to that part of Bolivia. I was only in the highlands, but yeah the lowlands, where Santa Cruz is located has women that are mestiza and white. The highlands is almost all Incas. So lowland Bolivian women will look more like the Latinas you are used to.

Visit Santa Cruz for the women, visit Andean Bolivia for the sight-seeing and cultural experience.

I will be there in 10 days, i heard good stories about it also. Girls tend to look more brazilian because its close to braz and they seem to mix a lot. Will stay there a few days.

Santa Cruz, Bolivia

Santa Cruz, Bolivia is one of the hidden gems of South America.

My story there: I ended up there on a tip I got from a local friend in La Paz in 2009 and happened to be there during an annual event they have each September called Feria ExpoCruz. This is an outdoor business fair with hundreds of booths and models working at all the booths. This fair is a great opportunity to walk around, talk to the models and get some numbers. That night, a French guy from my hostel and I walked around and ended up getting about 10 numbers each and going to an after party with a group of models from a tractor company's tent. One of the numbers I got that night was from a girl in a little fashion show that I ended up having lunch with two days later (She is with this modeling agency promocionesgloria(dot)com/galeria/main.php so you get an idea of the quality. I know models are never representative of the average girl but they are still attainable if you have game and you will see those girls at the clubs.) The girl and I kept talking after I left and I have since gone back to Santa Cruz several times for a total of about 6 months spent there in the last two years. I have some decent information...

Ease of approaching: (9 out of 10) Even though I was always visiting this girl, I would often play around a bit while down there. I'll admit she kept me content so I'd rarely get the itch to try to get laid by new girls while visiting her. But even if I wasn't trying, it was hard not to get some because they would aggressively pursue me. When I walk into clubs down there I always get a lot of looks immediately upon walking in and it continues throughout the night. Any of the girls I approach are receptive and interested. Lots of stares = easy approaches. I feel the USA-God effect in Santa Cruz more than anywhere else I've been in Latam (and I've spent a while in 13 LatAm countries including Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Venezuela). For example, on a daily basis I would walk to/from the gym on Avenida San Martin and on numerous occasions I have had girls pull their cars over to talk to me (7s-8s, one time it was three flight attendants from Aerosur (they hire hot flight attendants btw)). That has never happened to me anywhere else.

Girls: 8 out of 10. Most of the girls here aren't that attractive but the hot ones are very hot. While that isn't normally a good thing, it works out well in SC because the hot girls are very approachable and friendly. It's easy for me to meet and talk to 8s-9s there at nice clubs, restaurants and gyms. It's very easy for me to hook up with 6s-7s there if that's what I'm going for. While the overall quality in the city isn't good, I'd say the quality in the good night clubs is excellent.

Their faces aren't as nice as the faces you'll find in Medellin, but their bodies are more naturally beautiful. I'd compare the look of the hot girls to the look I saw in Cali, Colombia. There are actually a lot of similarities between Cali and SC.

The girls here aren't very worldly. They're definitely uneducated. Their focuses are partying and family. They despise Bolivian men.

Ease of hookup: (7 out of 10) SNL is possible. Within a few dates for sure.

Day game spots: The streets during the day time are filled with ugly girls for the most part. I'll be the first to admit that the average girl in SC is NOT attractive. There are no good malls or plazas to hit up. The only day game should be worked at universities in the Equipetrol area. Some of the high-end gyms and spas are also very good for meeting girls. Guembe biopark is also good for day game on the weekends.

Night game: The popular night clubs are constantly changing so it's hard to say what's hot right now since I haven't been there for 9 months. The hot clubs last time I was there were Set and Giza. Plenty of hot girls there. You'll also find the nicer karaoke bars have good selection (one called Space is good).

Avenida San Martin in Equipetrol is a happening street where you can find people parking their cars and drinking on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings. Just walking up and down the street, I would often have girls staring at me. If I was alone, the approaches were easy.

Santa Cruz is close to the border with Brazil so there is a large Brazilian population. There are a few Brazilian clubs that I've done very well in. Lots of looks and interest just like the other clubs there but with a different flavor.

Activities: Santa Cruz is not a beautiful city. They don't take care of their city so there is trash everywhere. Only some residential areas are nice. There are some nice places to visit such as the Guembe biopark where you can swim in some nice pools and man-made waterfalls. 4 wheeling on the weekend is also popular. The local guys with rent 4 wheelers and get wasted. That's one of the more exciting weekend activities. There are also some nice tennis clubs around the city if you play.

Prices: You can rent a decent one bedroom apartment for $500 for one month. For a long-term rental you can get a very nice 5 bedroom house for that price. This city is cheap. Dollar taxis. Dollar beers. Big meals with drinks on dates for $10-15.

Food: There are some very good Italian, Mexican and typical-food restaurants but you won't find world-class cuisine there. No good sushi.

Gringo infestation: Non-existent. I'll go weeks without seeing any gringos around.

Infrastructure: Internet is slow and crashes everywhere. Streets are crappy.

Conclusion: Honestly, it's an easy city to get bored in unless all you need to be happy is drinking and fucking... so that's the main reason I don't go back more often. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend visiting for a while. I don't think it's a place to plan a trip around.

Important info that could effect my experience there: I speak perfect Spanish, a definite advantage since English isn't popular there. I have light-brown hair with brown eyes but I imagine the blond-haired, blue-eyed guys would do even better (especially if tall and of a decent build).

Surrounding area: The girls who win Miss Bolivia are always either from Santa Cruz or Beni (a small state north of Santa Cruz). I've never checked out Beni, but the girls I've seen from there are hot. I imagine that area has great potential for uncharted territory with hot chicks. If I end up back in Bolivia, I'll definitely check out Beni.

i was there two weeks ago and dont share your opinion. The girls who were hot over there were Brazilian girls studying in the universities. There were a few other gringo's around on the streets.
You must look like a mix of a Greek god, Brad Pitt and a well dressed millionaire to have girls pulling over their cars. i didnt get any extra attention from any girl there. Even the Bolivian girls on the street generally ignored me.

Which hostel did you stay ? I couldn't find one there. I stayed in a a 5 dollar hotel/dump.

i went to club Mad, next to club zoom on a saturday night. Lots of hot girls in there but its was a Brazilian party.

i had a SNL bang there but a horrible one.

I'll still recommend the place to nearby gamers but don't get your hopes up to much if you have no or limited Spanish skills.

Just my two cents

Thanks Jargonaut, thorough breakdown.

Neil,

Why was the SNL bang horrible? Did the girl just suck in bed and not in the good way? I assume she was a local and not one of those brazilians.

How many days were you in the city? I'm sure that probably affects what you experienced there.

I could see how you could have that experience especially if you only had a few days to check it out. Most mediocre bars/clubs are pretty shitty. I don't recognize the name of that club you went to. I think if you had gone to Set (the hottest club at the moment) you would have had a different opinion of the talent here. The hot clubs there go through a cycle where the rich/beautiful people go there for a while until they get tired of them and then they either shut down or open their doors to "collos" (ugly mountain or indian people). I noticed most outsiders (including backpackers) aren't allowed into the "in" clubs unless they drop some change.

My opinion of the place could also be skewed because my girl there brings me to parties with her cousins who are all pretty and some of the other girls who often come are models, former Miss Bolivias, etc. Finding a good social circle is always important in Latam, but I think it may be more important in SC. My Spanish skills help a lot too.

On a hot girl per capita basis, I think Medellin and Cali, Colombia are definitely better. As I said in my last post, I agree that most girls here are not attractive. But the hot ones are accessible and somewhat easy to bang. I think the girls in SC are comparable to Cali girls as far as easiness goes. I spent 4 months in Medellin and 6 in SC. I banged more girls and hotter girls in SC even though I saw more hot girls in Medellin.

I usually rent an apartment in Equipetrol when I'm there. But I've stayed in the Jodanga hostel. It's far from most places but it's nicer than other hostels I've visited.

I think this has a big part of why he had a bad experience. I've noticed the hostels don't send people to the good clubs. A backpacker passing through with no clue of where to go might get lucky and end up in the right nightclub that is "in" at the time, but it's much more likely he'll end up in some shitty club with ugly girls. Since most girls on the streets during the day are ugly, this can leave the backpacker with a bad impression.

I happened to accidentally show up during Feria Expocruz which was filled with models, so I got very lucky. That set me up so each time I go back, I go to the nice clubs which have lots of very pretty girls. It's a different experience.

I've talked to other backpackers on the gringo trail who have SNLs there and been very happy with their experiences in SC.

A fugly i never want to be reminded of + i suspect she stole some of my money too.

I was there for 4 night but didn't go out on friday. i was knocked out by the terrible dusty/bumpy bus trip on break down bus from the night before.
On saturday i went to a club but wasn't treated any different from any other club in South america. No stares or approaches from girls. That still surprises me all over South America. Even if you are the only white guy there , it has little extra value. or girls here are good at hiding the stares.

i must admit, i find it damn hard to approach in Spanish speaking countries due to my lacking spanish skills.

Club mad is on equipetrol right next to a club called Zoom. It was a high class pace where i had to pay deqrly to get in. beers were reasonably cheap though.

No worries, dude. I've been lurking this forum for a while and finally decided to contribute something. I think I've grown to be particularly good at Latam game but I'm just decent everywhere else. I can get a pretty girl within a few nights out in major US cities which is good enough for me so I don't really get any better. That said, I have minimal game with American girls and usually do better with the foreign girls even when I'm in the US.

If that SC post sounded like self-hype, my post on my first weekend in Krakow, Poland will tame that down. I'm in Krakow now and it's not going well. I'll post that after this in the Krakow thread.

Some info on me:

I started travelling Latam in 2008 with a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina where I spent 2 months with no more action than make-out sessions in clubs. I spoke no Spanish at the time and this caused me to miss opportunities with the girls I made out with. From there, I went to Rio for a month and discovered how good Latam could be with two SNLs my first weekend.

In early 2009 I went to Medellin, Colombia and took about 3 months of Spanish classes. That was a huge game-changer for me.

Since then, I've been to every S. American country besides Ecuador and Paraguay, often spending weeks or months at a time in each place and have gotten a flag in all countries except Chile where I'm only spent 4 days. I've also spent time in Panama, the DR and Costa Rica.

Looks-wise I do ok. I'm in my late 20's, over 6ft with a naturally stocky build. Light brown hair/eyes, so I stand out just a bit in Latam but not as much as our blond hair, blue eyed friends.

I think the biggest edge I have in Latam is my Spanish. It makes it 10x easier for me down there. I recommend that any guy going down there spend a couple months in classes before going on a pick-up tour. Getting a latina girlfriend who doesn't speak English would also be a good time investment before going on a pick-up tour as well.

I'm going to be in La Paz this weekend and am thinking about busing to Santa Cruz to spend a week or so there. The bus is long (18hr?). I'm looking for advice on whether it is worth it. It sounds more promising then spending a week in La Paz.

I'm planning to fly to Argentina afterwards and flights seem to be more reasonably priced from Santa Cruz as compared to La Paz. This would be a plus.

If anyone has recommendations on where to stay in Santa Cruz for a week or two and what to do during the week it would be appreciated. Also I might look into spanish lessons since I assume they will be cheap.

I'm bumping up this thread in order to see if anyone's been to Santa Cruz, Bolivia lately.

I'm planning a Latin America trip of several months and would like to add at least another country to Dominican Republic, Colombia, Brazil and hopefully Argentina. So I'm curious to know if Santa Cruz really is a hidden Medellín? Jargonaut repped the girls but then NS wasn't so impressed so it would be great to get more people's opinions.

I am choosing between Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile and even though I would prefer Guatemala that would entail going North in order to then go south again which might cost me in time and money. I know Santa Cruz seems to have European-looking girls and to be a European place in general which isn't what I'm interested in for but if it's anything like Medellín, which I´ve read, then it would probably be worth going.

I'm in Santa Cruz now, and nearing the end of a two year Caribbean and Latin American swoop.
Coming from in from Peru (todo) -> La Paz -> Sucre, I'm having the best time here out of those.
I agree with most reports here on RVF about Santa Cruz.
Girls are all approachable but Spanish is essential. It's an insular society, but girls are generally curious and genuinely interested in foreign guys. They love flirting and compliments, and dates are easily arranged.
In Peru, being part Caribbean was a huge handicap not just in game but travelling in general, but in Bolivia, and especially Santa Cruz there isn't any of the white god/shun morenos syndrome, and people take you as you are - as it's so very mixed. I love that about Bolivians in general.
I have a few days left here and will post a report with specifics and outcomes.

What is the level of beauty of those girls? Comparable to Lima and better than La Paz? Even better and closer to Brazil?

I haven't been to Brazil yet, so can't compare. In my opinion the girls in Santa Cruz are hotter per capita than any city I visited in Peru (my flavour is dark skin and fuller bodies, and Peruanas are skinny flacas or just sloppy compared to any city in my fave country, Colombia). In Santa Cruz I see more shapely girls and nice exotic eyes that I see a lot of in Bolivia.
The quality here beats La Paz and Sucre as the girls are mixed- the rest of Bolivia is very indigenous and the attitudes/mentality is frustrating in those cities.
The only girl I dated in Sucre was from Santa Cruz and she is cool as f*.
It's a cool city with hot approachable girls, and really friehdly locals... but it's a shithole... and there's Cali, Barranquilla, that are in better shape with much hotter women. Even San Jose in Costa Rica probably gets a better score from me in terms of living/locals/game/chicas.
