Thus the bar for something to qualify as thoughtcrime has been lowered about five rungs down from "hateful" to merely "upsetting".

Well, there's always Bing, right?
The weird thing about censorship is that the avowed targets are rarely if ever affected by it; either the Comstockian efforts miss it completely, the censors let the worst offenses pass, or the ideas find new avenues and survive. Censorship of this sort is really just Google announcing to the world, 'I'm impotent as Hugh Hefner, but I'll buy a motorbike and act tough so nobody believes it.'
If print was the medium for ideas deemed offensive and a magazine or publishing house refused to give you a channel? Hell, start a zine.
While the internet is the medium, Bing, Gab.ai, Vimeo etc are going to offer stiff competition and will welcome traffic that the mainstream sites don't allow. Google is going to do a Twitter-crash.
And there's going to be a market for offensive truths, because every area of opnion is getting more and more polarised-not just politics, religion and sex, but medicine, business, language, law.

So it just gets a flag/label? That will just drive kids towards that kinda stuff. Anything I was told I shouldn't look at as a kid just made me more curious. People like the "forbidden fruit".
Besides, this is only gonna hurt Google. The next step is them outright censoring or banning content which will drive users elsewhere. I hate to use that old hippie saying but...."you can't ban ideas man!"

Wonder how many visa slaves make up their "review teams." This isn't as bad as it seems at least, more like a waste of money and man hours. Sounds like they are just pandering to the trigger warning crowd. I'm confident that when they nefariously start banning sites, it won't be publicized.

Well, it's starting to happen:
Banks join queue of advertisers ditching Google
I doubt it'll mean much action is taken against genuine extremists, because social media in general is pretty lazy about that (how many ISIS-controlled Twitter accounts, again?) but people may realise that Google's business model is not optimal for everyone, as indeed it's not. Free speech that you can't sell ad space in
is never going to be an option for Google, and now that they've shown that they can't be trusted to police their own pages, conventional businesses and non-mainstream publishers will take their content elsewhere.

Fuck Google. Bunch of Deep State marxist globohomo scum, anyway. It's been 5+ years since I've used Google as a search engine. I use Startpage or Duckduckgo.

All these companies coming out and censoring content and treating their users like 5 year olds are just making it easier for their replacements to come along and take their spot.
Not able to speak your mind on Twitter anymore? Check out Gab.ai. Reddit censoring like crazy? Check out Voat.co. Not able to find the content you are looking for on Google anymore? A new player will come along.
You can only nanny your users so much before a replacement will come along.

I always see Assholes arguing that information monopolies like Facebook and Google should be allowed to do as they please because they are private companies and if you don't like it don't use them.
Fuck I want slap these Assholes.

If these 'private companies' continue to grow their monopolies and push further into being almost compulsory to use for Joe citizen with support of government/authority. Its only a matter of time before a banning from one of these corporate giants for stepping outside the programmed correct speak/behaviour seriously impinges on your life.
Unable to log into their networks you will be seriously disadvantaged in day to day functionality and economically. A 21st century Gulag

This is more of an opportunity than anything else.
If Bing doesn't do this they'll get market share. Or Duckduckgo, Trustnav, etc

Google just deplatformed Huawei off of Android and they are working with the PRC on a search engine. If they will do that then could there be a possible future where they start threatening hosting sites if they host websites like Roosh?
Say you cant use google in your services if you dont remove certain sites?
