Any of ya'll ever use a duvet as a opposed to a comforter? Is there that much of a difference between the two?

They are sort of the same thing, but not, but same same. From this link:

Quote:Quote:

What is a Duvet?
A duvet is a soft, flat bag filled with down or synthetic fibers. The name refers to this insert and is sold separately from duvet covers or other coordinating bed linens. If you hate making the bed, a duvet with a cover can be used instead of a top sheet and blanket, which can save time and stress. While a duvet cover should be machine washable, duvets themselves are usually dry-cleaned.

Quote:Quote:

What is a Comforter?
A comforter is covered in fashion fabric and filled with down or synthetic fibers. It's then stitched to keep the fill in place. Comforters are often part of a "bed-in-a-bag" set with coordinating sheets and pillow shams, which help decorating rookies create a polished, cohesive look. Sold according to bed size, comforters are designed to be larger than the bed and hang down the sides. Care is easy with a comforter - just wash with your other bedding.

Quote:Quote:

What is a Duvet Cover?
A duvet cover to a duvet is like a pillowcase to a pillow. It slips over your duvet and has a simple closure with inside tabs or loops to prevent the duvet from slipping. Duvet covers are very versatile and allow you to quickly change the look of your room. Love the smell of clean linen? A duvet cover can easily be slipped off and washed with the rest of your bedding. You can cover a comforter with a duvet cover, but be mindful of the size. Duvet covers are typically smaller than a comforter and may not fit.

Quote:Quote:

Duvets vs. Comforters: A Comparison
Things to consider about duvets:
- is best paired with a protective duvet cover
- style can be easily changed by changing duvet cover
- a top sheet not necessary
- is sold by bed size
- is closer in size to bed, less hangover on sides
- is not easily laundered at home
Things to consider about comforters:
- no duvet cover is needed
- not as easy to change style
- top sheet is necessary
- is sold by bed size
- is larger sized than bed, more hangover on sides
- is easily laundered at home

Myself, I use a duvet and duvet cover. I find a down filled duvet to be much fluffier/comfortable for girls. It is slightly more of a pain in the ass to swap duvet covers on it, but I think it's a worthwhile tradeoff. Make sure if you buy a duvet that you buy one for your general weather. Get one with a LOT of down (very warm) if you're in an area that's mostly cold, get a very light one if you're in a very warm area.

I believe most higher end hotels run a duvet and duvet cover along with top sheets. I consider them classier, but your mileage may vary. It matters a lot more to have a comfortable bed with reasonably well put together colors that go decent with your surroundings.

Having the bed made before a girl gets into it is way more important than having 1000 thread count sheets versus 400 thread count.

I sleep on the floor.

I've always had bad posture and lower back pain, and sleeping in the floor helps wit this. I don't even miss a bed/mattress anymore.

I even have a good mattress - a Sealy tempur-pedic memory mattress. I still prefer the floor because I feel better upon waking - mostly my back.

As I said, I don't even miss sleeping on a mattress anymore. I love sleeping on the floor. It feels more natural and animalistic to me, which I need in this corrupt world of slaves.

The older I get, the more like a caveman I become.

^^ Yeti, when you sleep on the floor, what position/side do you sleep on? Do you just sleep on your back with or with out pillow?
I've tried doing the same thing for posture purposes but I can't seem to make it through the whole night.

I'm really surprised I couldn't find a thread on this.

We all know quality of sleep is huge, and considering how much time we spend in bed banging and resting, it seems that would be a great place to spend some money or at least not be cheap.

I just bought a Simmons Beauty Rest Mattress.

I started looking for sheets and a comforter on Amazon and can't decide what is good and what is not.

Started laughing when I ready this thread. LOL

I work in this industry including being top ranked seller on Amazon for bedding & home textiles for 1 of my different businesses.

Do you use a top sheet with your duvet? It seems like going without a top sheet would be a lot more simple way to make the bed, but at the same time a tad gross.

Yes, I do, as I buy sheet sets that always have a top sheet (also called a flat sheet).

I also think it's not a big deal at all to wash the fitted sheet (bottom sheet) and the top sheet (flat sheet) and not wash the duvet cover if you're changing your sheets often enough and not kicking down the top sheet a lot.

It's actually pretty easy to make the bed just grab the sides of the top sheet and duvet/duvet cover and shake the whole thing sideways until it hangs well on the opposite side of the bed, then pull until it's even.

I also have a lazy man's way to make the bed while still in it and getting out. It's really lazy so I'll pass on describing it.

Yeah I can see not making it through the night. I almost always make it through the night. Sometimes I'll wake up a couple hours early and go back to the futon just for a change, and sleep for another couple hours.

Generally though making it through the night is not an hour. I place a sheet on the floor for cleanliness, and sleep on that, with a blanket over me. I use a single, regular pillow (somewhat thin, not jumbo-sized).

I've contemplated going sans pillow and I might transition into that in the future. I'm not sure yet. It seems right but I don't think that I'm quite there.

The problem with all this is how bulky all this stuff is. I love a good bed, but can't justify carrying everything around when I move, because all my stuff has to fit in two big suitcases and a carry on bag.

Now I'm leaving Switzerland after two years and it's the longest I have stayed in the same place, normally it would be 6-12 months. I just buy whatever is cheap and throw it away/sell it when I leave. Also beds in different places are different sizes, so even if I spent 500 bucks on having a nice bedding set up, it may not fit in the next destination.

But if I ever plan to stay long term at the same place, this is the first stuff I'll get!

Great thread!

Percale(a type of cotton) sheets are smooth and comfortable! High quality feel to them. A fun way to treat yourself is to do is get your set of sheets and duvet cover monogrammed with your name or initials. Strong sheet game and girls get a kick out of it! Ralph Lauren does this online for a minimal fee (or it might even be free). My setup is matching fitted sheet, pillowcases, flat sheet, and down comforter with duvet cover(doesn't have to match sheets). You can skip the flat sheet if you want. I usually go with navy or white for a clean look.

White linen sheets, while pricey, are excellent for the summer months. You'll sleep cooler(temperature wise) in them.

Get your mattress at Costco online. I purchased a nice and firm foam mattress for around $500 and I sleep well on it. It can be returned anytime, even 7 years later, haha. Protect it with a $20 mattress cover and you won't have to worry about stains.

When I ran an Airbnb apt, I outfitted the pad with used bed frames from Craiglist. Sleek, low profile beds can be had for $150 or less and have a clean look to them. No need for a box spring.

For those with more space, don't put anything under the bed. This will make it easier to dust or vacuum underneath.

Buy a duvet cover.

The bedding they sell at costco seems to be of decent quality and it's a pretty good deal.

Get a duvet cover with a zipper that zips open the whole bottom, makes thing way easier than fucking around with buttons or something.

This thread inspired me to check out pillows and bedding recently.

I've been suffering from neck pain when waking and having troubles with my shoulder from leaning towards one side while sleeping.

I went to the store and purchased a "Memory Foam Pillow". It cost about $25.

I would say its well worth the purchase, so far since I've used it my neck has not had that sharp pain and I've seen improvement over just a few days.

The drawback is that mainly I would have to sleep on my back. There are different ranging pillows depending on whether you sleep on the side or back.

Everyone should be sleeping on their back anyways, specially if you already have joint pains.

I've been sleeping on two firm pillows my entire life, and I swear it's the reason I've got a shitty posture which I've only been actively correcting these past 6 months or so.

1 soft pillow is much better. I use a Tempur cloud pillow and it's improved my sleep massively since I started. Only drawback is that it set me back £80.

It does say polyester is in the mix but I believe it's well over 50% cotton.

The most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on:

https://www.flobeds.com/

Latex matress with a memory foam topper. Don't bother with natural latex. It offers no advantages over synthetic latex and will just end up costing you more $$$.

Ive found grounding my bed gives me a deeper and healthier sleep. Just run a wire from a tap or buy a grounding connector from that david wolfe guy or on ebay. Definitely good to avoid synthetic bedding as it generates static electricity and a positive charge. I also cant fathom why the hell anyone would sleep with radiating EMF device like a phone turned on while they are sleeping, or why you wouldn't turn the wi-fi off to get a better sleep. The best sleep ive had is when the electricity was switched completely off.

I also find an essential oils burner sets the mood well and creates a comfortable environment

Might sound hippy but the absolute best nights sleep ive had in my entire life is sleeping in a traditional style tee-pee wigwam. Something about the geometry and airflow just gives me a total recharge

So the general consensus was to get sheets from Ross, right?

I might hit up TJMaxx and get some for when AirBNB guests come over.

Casper Mattress.

I slept on one for a week and it's the best. Fucking. Mattress. Ever.

In fact the entire mattress industry should go ahead and stop all their R&D because I can say with a high confidence (p<0.05) that it's very unlikely for us humanity to ever come up with a better mattress than this. GG mattress industry.

Sidenote: You can reship.com it to anywhere you want, it'll cost more than the $850 retail due to the shipping but it'll still be around half of what I paid for my IKEA bed which is not nearly as good.

All of those places are hit-or-miss. I assume they buy stuff from some liquidator, and what they get they put out.

I did some shopping today, the flagship Ross's in Honolulu didn't have shit for my house I need, but had my cologne for cheap.

If you got Nordstrom Rack that's the same but nicer. I got an All Clad saucepan just because it was cheap.

There's also Saks fifth avenue outlets called South Street or something like that.

If you get lucky, good. Don't blow the place off if the don't have what you want, just wait till next shipment.

I always think its funny that they have a rack of size 24 shoes at Ross's. Its like those are the ones Shaquille O'Neal didn't buy.

I also get a zipping pillow cover to protect the pillow and help prevent the steady accumulation of dead skin/ dust mites on the pillow. You can wash the zipping pillow cover a few times

This is a topnotch thread.

Sleep along with diet and exercise are the most important things in life.

For mattress, I have the Simmons Comfortpedic Phenom. Its a memory foam that is pretty firm. It rebounds well and doesnt sag. My only complaint is that in the summer temperatures it gets a bit squishy.

For a comforter, I use this bad boy and swear by it. The SoSoft™ Plush/Berber Down Alternative 3-Piece Reversible Full/Queen Comforter Set. Its velvety soft on the top and has a nice sheep skin thing going on inside. Looks classy too. This fucker hasn't ever had any LMR. https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/1/1/369...r-set.html

Pillows I used to cheap out and go with the $10-15 variety from the discount stores but never loved them. I recently upgrade to these guys, Brookestone Biosense and The Miracle Bamboo pillow.

Lets just say the Biosense is my ride or die bitch and the bamboo is a nice to have.

Biosense is very firm yet comforting and really countours to your sleep type. For back sleepers, its great.

https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/p...nse+pillow

The Miracle Bamboo is more plush and giving. I'd like a bit more support but to each their own.

https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/p...boo+pillow

For sheets, I go with Jersey or Modal. The high thread count egyptians are never as comfortable as I'd like.

This particular brand is worth the money.

https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/p...ryId=12019

A word on buying mattresses, better to go with a local store. I bought mine from Sleepy's and will never shop there again. Its all sales and no service. They just want to move product and are incentivized to sell you whatever bullshit the commission plan pays most on.

Go with a local store. Most likely, the owner or someone will be around. They are competing with the big guys and have to win on reputation. They'll give you more attention on this investment. And an investment it is.

Now, as you can see, I've posted a ton of Bed, Bath, and Beyond links. Quality store and once you shop there once you get 20% off coupons monthly.

Lastly on a quasi related note, lets talk bedroom color schemes. Don't sleep on this. I went down the rabbit hole while deciding to paint my apt in Chicago.

Basically, you want the most soothing tones possible. So navy, hunter green, soft blue, silver, and surprisingly yellow works. Hint: the colors you want are something you'd find sleeping in nature.

Avoid: Orange, Purple, Red, and Brown.

Check out this study. http://lifehacker.com/the-best-colors-to...1619274786
