Is anybody going to be in BKK in early Nov? I'm looking at tickets now. YMG? VP?
Bangkok early November
How long are you going to be there for? I'm thinking of returning there by early-mid Nov.
Nice! I'm going to buy a one-way ticket and stay as long as I'd like. I'll be in Asia at least 3-4 months most likely.
I might be in Chiang Mai at that point to go train at a new gym that two buddies of mine are starting up there.
Ill be there for the first time around then. Ill PM you when I hit town.
Gringoed,
Be careful with the 1 way ticket. You have a 50% chance of not being allowed to board in on the plane. What you could do is buy a one way international ticket to BKK, then get a cheap 1 way to say Singapore or KL with Air Asia for about 50-90 bucks. This way, it'll cover your back in case they ask you for an outbound flight.

@Trudat- definitely!
@YMG- Cool, Im extremely interested in Chiang Mai and I'll definitely be at least visiting there.
@VP- Thanks for the tip! 50% is pretty risky. I hate having set itineraries so I may just produce a fake onward travel ticket like what I did to get into Brazil, or if I can I'll buy a fully refundable fare and get it refunded. Most government employees are idiots so I'm not worried about getting caught.
I just bought my ticket, arrive 11/8! I'm probably going to hold off on getting a stable place to stay until I get a chance to tour around Asia a bit. I'd like to visit China, Japan, UPI, Indonesia, Laos, maybe India.

I'll be in Thailand in November, probably not Bangkok. But if we're able to get 4-5 people together, I'll make the trip.
Leaving for BKK next week (Oct 29th)
After following YGM's thread, I might try the training camps in BKK and Phuket.
Hit me up if your around....could use a solid wingman or 2

Pro tip: Better than buying a cheap Air Asia return ticket - buy a one-way refundable ticket out that you cancel the second you get inside the border.
I'm here right now looking for a teaching job. This is usually peak hiring season for English teachers but the flooding has hit the job market hard. A lot of schools are not sure when they are going to be able to open so they haven't hired staff yet.
Anyways, I'll be here. I've been killing it the last few days on Khao Sarn. This is my second time in Bangkok, but I'm 5 for 5 at a club called "The Club" (gets right to the point, eh?). Despite the floods there are still lots of fine Euro chicks and of course Thai girls. Let me know if any of you want to grab a drink or head down to Nana. There's no need for P4P here but it's still fun to go down there and look at the selection.
Oh, and Gringo, if you get a 60-day tourist visa before you leave no one will ask you about a return ticket.

Thanks for the tip but in order to get the 60 day tourist visa I need a return ticket anyhow.

Where are you from? I got mine at the consulate in Los Angeles and all they asked for was my passport, two passport photos, the application, and $40. They didn't even ask to see my ticket to Thailand even though I had it ready to turn in. I'd call them up and make sure.

The Club on KSR is dreadful. Badly dressed backpacker girls and Thai hookers are all you'll find there. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.
I'm in Bangkok. Hit me with a PM if you're around!
What's the flood story on the ground there? According to the news reports things are getting worse in Bangkok, evacuating more areas, food and essential items scarce, etc. Seems like the usual sensationalizing. How have you found the situation so far?
I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?
@KingofScotland You are correct. I would stay away from KSR in general but you are spot on about The Club.
That info about a 50% chance not being allowed to board the plane is Bull Shit. I have flown from the USA to BKK on a one way ticket 5 or 6 times and have never had a problem like that.
I did have some one at LAX ask me lots of questions when I was flying one way to Manila. I had to sign a form saying the airline was not responsible if customs in manila did not let in. Got to Manila with 0 problem.
Flying into BKK and customs their is one of the easiest I have ever been too.

Yeah all the news you hear and pictures you see about the flooding are scary, but once you're on the ground you'd hardly know it was going on if you're in the main/touristy areas of Bangkok. So far, so good.
However, I decided not to take any chances of things getting worse and getting stranded so I'm now in Chiang Mai.
As for the VISA issue, I could see that being a problem depending on which airline you take. To be on the safe side, print out a fake itinerary showing you leave within 30 days. Expedia is the easiest for that. AirChina looked very closely at my itinerary and even counted out the days I would be there, so I wouldnt take any chances with not having any documentation showing that you're leaving.

Thai customs tend not to worry too much about one way flights (done it many times too) but your airline might not let you board. Almost happened to me as I was flying to Brazil last year, my flight home was 5 months later so not within the 3 month visa period for UK citizens, they tried to deny me acesss just as we were boarding the plane. Sweet talked them round it but was worrying at the time. Possibly not worth the worry and hassle these days.
I'm back in BKK and looking to party for the next 10 days. If anybody is here hit me up with a PM (give me your # if you have one) it could be fun to party with somebody from the forum!

How's the flooding situation looking on the ground. Is it keeping the sights and party spots closed or is it business as usual?
Nope, going to the Philippines then China. Back in Thailand early Feb.
