Stopping sore throat in its tracks

I would +1 Dr. Thomas if I already hadn't.

People who discount qualified doctor's opinions -- especially when a doctor has real world experience treating thousands of patients! -- should consider if they've spent years studying anatomy, biology, immunology, bacteriology, and nutrition. Like a real doctor has.

If not, your opinions are generally adolescent rebellion, not a bad thing in itself but one should have some sense of the proportionality of one's knowledge.

Yeah it's probably too late for you to try using but thought I'd still put this out here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turmeric

Turmeric is used in a lot of Indian/South Asian cuisine. It's also used as a home remedy for sore infected throats or as an antiseptic on open cuts.

Where to get it? If you live in a city with a decent sized Indian population you should have at least a couple ethnic Indian grocery stores and are guaranteed to find it there. If you don't live in an area with those stores, you would have to try checking online, I'm sure you could find some off Amazon.

When you buy it, it's a bright yellow powder. This is simply the root of the plant that has been finely ground up. Just take around 3-4 teaspoons of it, mix it up in a cup of hot water, add salt, and then gargle mouthfuls of the mixture until you've gone through the whole cup. Growing up in an Indian household, my mom used to make me do this whenever I had a sore throat, and it worked for me every single time. Plus since it's a common ingredient in Indian cuisine there is almost no risk involved in accidentally taking too much of it.

Also, the bright yellow turmeric could potentially lightly stain your teeth, but if you brush your teeth right after you're done you should be good.
