Feeling weird. Quitting junk food.

Hey guys,

Need your advice. I've been feeling strange very recently. It's a very nauseating feeling. I've been eating a lot of junk food and caffeine recently and am trying to quit.

This morning I woke up feeling a strange body "high," almost as if I have a hangover and exhaustion. I've been trying to drink tons of water, but is there anything else I can do? Will fruit juices work for this? Vitamins? This has has happened in the past, but I am trying to slowly ween myself of certain foods. I suspect fapping also has to do with this, since my energy levels have been low, but if somebody can point me in the right direction, that would help.

Thanks.

First off, you shouldn't be eating any processed foods, period. No breakfast cereals, no "lunchables", and certainly no TV dinners.

Whole foods that require you to take the 10 minutes to prepare.

What does your breakfast, lunch, and dinner look like?

And get off of the pron.

Thank you.

That's been a problem for me lately because my accommodations (for now) are less than appealing and I'd rather starve than cook in that germ-infested kitchen on campus. I'm at an internship and my options are certainly limited here.

My breakfasts (if I don't skip) -
Maybe leftover pizza from last night. Egg and sausage sandwich from store. Coffee.

Lunch-
Usually Chik-Fil-A

Dinner-
Beef jerky, water, powerade, cookies, chinese

Obviously, this kind of food is not good for you. I tried Jamba Juice today, but I nearly hurled. My diet needs a complete overhaul and its hard to eat healthy bc of the kitchen situation. Maybe I could invest in a nice portable stove, but storing my food would be another issue. But I have at least 2-3 weeks before I head home.

You should see a doctor. We can offer guidance but if your health is down then you should be proactive and get out ahead of this.

Start with something simple. Just replace your breakfast with 4 whole real eggs, and keep the coffee if you want.

After that start packing a basic lunch like chicken and rice with broccoli or a home made hamburger with kale and carrots.

Juicing on its own will significantly improve your diet, no matter what else you are eating.

Make staples out of: carrots, lemons, apples, celery, tomatoes. From there you can add other things and experiment further.

Sometimes when I am in a diet slump, I make a large serving of juice that lasts me as one heaping glass for 3-4 days and that gets everything back on track.

Bersa your diet is so fucked. Have you always eaten like this?

Germs, time, money...there are no viable excuses. There are resources all over the internet about how to eat cheap and healthy.

Even in your current situation....buy a rice cooker. Microwave some black beans. Buy whole cooked chickens. Add it together with spices. Healthy, nutritious and delicious.

If you know nothing about nutrition...listen to the old Danger & Play podcasts. Lots of knowledge in there.

The other posters are on point with the nutrition part, but you also need sleep. Sleep is critical for health and well being. Also you need physical activity as well.

I think the reason you nearly hurled is because your body is used or even addicted to toxic junk food and finds healthy food to be strange.

Once you adapt you'll enjoy eating healthy food as much if not more than eating junk food.

My diet could certainly use some improvement, but if I were a betting man, I'd wager that your diet is more of a danger to you than any of the germs in that kitchen.

Are you getting any artificial sweeteners in your diet? Maybe diet soda or "sugar free" foods? That shit can wreck havoc on you and your nervous system.

No wonder you feel sick when you eat that kind of food.

Get your diet in order and start juicing.

Edit: My fault, I didn't notice that you live in a dorm and that food prep. logistics are a challenge...

I'm sure this has been mentioned in other places on the Forum, but I'd like to mention the following:

On the weekend, make all of your lunches for the week ahead in one go. IF you eat a proper breakfast, it doesn't have to be that much food or take that much time to make. For instance, I put broccolli, olives, carrots, balsamic vinigarette dressing (sometimes cucumbers and sometimes feta) into a good sized tupperware container. I also bring a couple (OK, three) handfuls of almonds and an apple....

This doesn't sound like a lot, but, if you crack open four or five eggs, scramble them, and enjoy them with smoked salmon in the morning, you will not be hungry until later in the day. I'm sure people have differing opinions, but I buy pre-packaged smoked salmon at the store and enjoy it. Either way, eggs are the best thing ever for breakfast.

^ Everything that I've described above is easy as hell to make and doesn't require much time. I know it probably seems like a lot to change - I was in a similar dietary position not that long ago, and the notion of making all my lunches and eating anything other than a "breakfast bar" for breakfast seemed out of this world. I promise you that by getting your healthy lunches on autopilot and eating a proper breakfast will change your life.

I concur, see a doctor if you're feeling like shit. But...

Do you realize how quick and easy an egg sandwich or burrito is? Or drinking protein shakes are?

First thing, and this is just my opinion which may or may not align with your own personality...I wouldn't make a big jump into anything. Sounds like you need some quick easy fixes to some of your dinners.

Start with egg sandwiches (you obviously enjoy them...one of my favorites). You can make one in 4 minutes with a pan and a toaster. No toaster, use tortillas. No stove, mix and microwave.

A couple more:
- Sandwiches. Tuna fish with pickles, ham/turkey and cheese.
- Stir fry. Chicken, rice, frozen stir fry veggies with some soy sauce. I can whip this up in about 15 minutes.

If your like me, make gradual changes and they will snowball into bigger life impact. Replacing one or two meals per day with the above will save you from eating as much shitty foods. You don't have to go all healthy, just go healthier. You'll find yourself creating good habits.

The 'make your lunches ahead of time' is great, but I've never been able to develop the continual habit of that, so I don't spend energy trying to force myself to do it. My weekends are usually busy, especially now during the summer. Probably my ADD.

Dear lord. No wonder you are sick.

You're on campus? Do you have a meal plan? If so utilize it. My college's dining hall sucked hard core, but was light years ahead of daily chick fil-a, poweraide, and Chinese.

The alternative of this is to clean your kitchen. Seriously you only get one body, start fueling it properly. If you're too lazy to clean up the "germ" riddled kitchen go buy a 2 burner electric hot plate you can use in your room and cook there. Use the oven in the kitchen if you need to bake stuff.

For breakfast, get some protein. The more protein the better. If you eat a protein heavy breakfast you can skimp down on lunch and dinner. My breakfast includes bacon, sausage, a hard boiled egg, some baked beans cold, oatmeal, and a glass of milk. Something along these lines. Get a skillet and teapot to cook this.

For lunch, pack it. . My lunch includes hard cheeses (asiago, parm), some salami, 2 greek yoghurts, a banana, and a glass of milk.

Dinner is up to you. I recommend something simple like a chicken breast (season with salt/pepper) either baked or fried in olive oil. Get some veggies and steam them.

If you don't have time for dinner consider a protein shake with some berries, milk, psyllium (fiber), and some peanut butter. I used to do this in college when I didn't have time to cook.

My post is terse because you're hurting yourself. That food is ok once every now and then, but every day is poison. Not to mention eating out all of the time will drain your pocket book super fast. Correct your diet and you'll probably notice improvements in your cognitive ability and confidence.

Immediately - add good yogurt to your diet for the probiotics (avoid sugar, Greek is best, but even kids drinkable is ok if you're on a budget). Twice a day for a week, then daily until your digestive system recovers. Also max unprocessed fruits and veggies, either solid or blended.

Find healthier on-campus and off-campus food options. Pizza and fast food twice a day and then you wonder why you feel like shit?

Set a time at least 6h before your bedtime after which you will not have any more caffeine. If you have a 9-5, I recommend no later than 3pm. Move it earlier every week by 30 minutes. No electronics an hour before bedtime - the light messes with your circadian rhythm. Sleep in a dark room or with a mask, try a white noise app on your phone.

Limit yourself to no more than the equivalent of 3 coffees or 150mg caffeine a day. Drink water, replace coffee with green tea (less caffeine, antioxidants). Minimize liquid calories. Minimize soda, no "fruit flavored" drinks unless they're 80%+ fruit. Concentrate is fine if you're on a budget.

For most, more than a pint of milk a day isn't a good idea.

No more than 4 alcohol drinks per week. Your call when, but best not on weekdays.

Don't go grocery shopping when hungry and don't buy crap food - if you don't have it, you can't eat it.

I'm assuming you have a fridge. If not, get at least a micro fridge (the size of a six-pack). I'm always on the run, I don't always have time to cook but here's what I try to do:

Breakfast:
-pb&j (get peanut butter without palm oil added - you don't want them to skim off the healthy peanut oil and replace it with crap) with good bread - I make 6-7 at a time for the week
-instant oatmeal (you can even eat it dry if you have to).
-fruit - bananas, peaches, etc., whatever's not too expensive and I can eat on the run.
I find if I miss breakfast, I end up eating bad all day.

Lunch:
-get deli meat and make your own sandwiches (avoid mystery meat and condiments with unnatural ingredients).
-Or, my preference is to make large servings of dinner, put in containers, and eat over the week...

Dinner:
-use a pot to make beef stew with vegetables (carrots, tomatoes, onions...the kitchen sink).
-Add frozen veggies, brown rice, or potatoes as a side. I try to avoid pasta, but it's an option.
-Even simpler - chili. Brown the ground meat in the pot, add (pre-soaked or canned) beans, tomato sauce, spices. Bam. Two hours prep time gets you a week's worth of food.
-I also like to grill red meat and chicken breasts, but it's more involved and more expensive.

Snacks: dried fruits and nuts. Not chex mix, not candy. I get bulk packs and portion out Ziploc bags for the week.

Add fruits, vegetables, and salads throughout. I like to keep frozen fruit in the freezer, blend it with natural fruit I get on sale, pour into mason jars or containers, and consume over a few days.

You could use a slow cooker instead of a pot, more functional than a rice cooker, but one of those can't hurt either.

I cook everything with coconut oil. No vegetable oils, etc.

As Beast said, hardboiled eggs, protein shakes (sparingly), tuna salad are all good.

Add a multivitamin, max 30mg zinc on top, and 3-4 omega 3 caps daily.

You can cheat on your diet once or twice a week.

If you're in a dorm, technically you're forbidden from cooking in your room...but you can put a towel under your door and an exhaust fan in your window...or cook on the stove in the common room (just watch your stuff).

Thanks guys for responding. I really appreciate the feedback. I'm feeling a little better, but kinda bloated now. I used some altoids to counter the nauseating feeling I've been having and have been drinking water and propel all day.

Gonna get on eBay and find a cheap cooker and hit the school store for healthier groceries. I have more opportunity to eat healthier at home, but it is usually the same deal. Oddly enough, I get these strange moments of motivations where I swear to myself that I'll eat better, but then I end up ordering Chinese.

I'll definitely start taking the advice above and update this thread if I have anything to add. Should probably start NoFap again, too. And a little exercise wouldn't hurt....

Drop the propel and gatorade. There are no health benefits; its all good marketing.
Idk how this stuff is helping you:
Water, citric acid, sodium hexametaphosphate, natural flavor, potassium sorbate, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sucralose, sodium citrate, potassium citrate, acesulfame potassium, niacinamide (vitamin B3), calcium disodium edta, vitamin E acetate, calcium pantothenate (vitamin B5), pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6)

Drink water, juice/smoothies,milk,alcohol,tea,and coffee.

At the end of the day you know what is generally healthy and what isn't.
Avoid most shit that comes out of a package. You gotta check the ingredients on everything. Even shit that says 'all natural' or supplements like protein powder have disgusting ingredients.

Congrats on taking action. Update us on some of the tips you have for eating healthy in college to. I never knew you were not supposed to cook in your dorm.

Some other things that could help is probiotics. And since all of your food is processed your eating a ton of omega 6 heavy foods. You should supplement with probably a 1 tbsp a day of fish oil (omega 3), while cutting down on oil foods you get out. They are always O6 heavy and too much of that lead to inflammation pretty much everywhere.

Butter, ghee, coconut oil, palm oil, lard, tallow, avocado oil and olive oil are decent oils to cook and eat with. Make sure there are no additives in them if you can get it that way. Oils tend to be expensive, except butter. Olive oil however may be risky until you cut down the O6 heavy oils eat most of the time. They tend to be in seed oils and other vegetable oils like soy.
