For that budget your best bet would probably be a Tissot. Superb swiss quality at a prices that won't rob you.

tag, omega, tissot, seiko, movado, citizen, skagen gl...personally i think u could find something good in the 300-800 range that u will be happy with, 800-1500 doesnt offer too much more

Thanks for the information so far guys. Really appreicaite it.
Why no love for the Longines? Or are they out of my price range entirely?
One other question, if I can get something in 300 to 800 range that isn't a massive step down from from the 800 - 1500, what is the next step up?

I would wear a Longiness witha a suit at night or business, but for casual swooping during day game: Tissot, hands down.

I've decided to pick up my first proper watch
I have had many watches, including a gold rolex bubbleback stolen from a hotel room. I was relieved because it was fragile. I never want another expensive watch.
Buy replicas from dealers at replica-watch.info.
I don't think expensive watches are a good investment for game. Replicas help you experiment cheaply with gaudy watches.

I have to say I don't understand the appeal of automatics. I have an IWC Schaffhausen that my dad gave me, and I basically wear it all the time now, otherwise it looses time pretty badly.
