Do Christian Missionaries Often Marry Their Evangelized Subjects?

Do Christian Missionaries Often Marry Their Evangelized Subjects?

I've spent several years in Christian church circles and have noticed that many people (guys and girls) who went into the missions field full-time ended up marrying someone in the country or descendant from the country/culture that they had dedicated their work to. First hand examples I know of include 2 sisters who both married filipino men after doing missions trips to the Philippines, a woman who met and married an Israeli man while doing her Christian work in Israel, a young man who took a teaching position at a Christian/missions school in Russia came back to America a year later with a Russian bride, and a white woman who served in Africa, then married a black man (albeit a black American while she was back in the U.S.). I also know a white American guy, really into reaching the poor inner city black community here in his hometown U.S. city, just recently married a black woman.

Those of you who have some experience with church circles and particularly missionary workers, have you also noticed this trend? I am wondering if this is just an inevitable side effect of being in the field, or perhaps a strategy of Christian Game (if such a thing exists) to 1) choose a culture/people that you are passionate about/interested in, 2) focus on said country, 3) do the good deeds, and 4) find your hot wife/husband. Is this how religious missions people often meet their future SO?

What an interesting thread. I have seen this happen in quite a few circles of mine, but I never gave it any thought or connection to Manosphere stuff until your thread just now.

Well it's pretty fucking obvious to me. Women abroad are better for too many reasons to list. We all know what they are. Give a religious young man access to sweet, feminine, women with good traditional values, what else do you expect to happen?

When I was doing my K1 with my wife, I bumped into some Filipino/American couples that met like this.

Women outside of America have to actually compete for men. Those women know a good deal when they see one. They will always make a strong play at these men. Funny thing is that alot of these white Evangelical guys, have tremendous pressure socially when they go on these missions not to mix business with pleasure. No matter what anyone says here about WGF and white guys killing it, most would never marry a foreigner unless hell froze over first.

I don't care if she does have light colored skin. Many are not only beta but very locked into their local white circles and they will not marry anyone outside their church and family circles. They will copy Joel Osteen and get a white blonde woman that works in ministry somewhere in the US. I guarantee you though, they must be tempted to bang one out there.

Tim Teebow wont marry any woman he meets in those missions he does either. He is too high value for that or would privately look down on mixing like that. He will get a blonde American girl that works in ministry. I would bet a 1000 dollars he does that.

So what does that leave us with? Are the guys that do this losers? Hopelessly beta/omega or socially awkward? Nah. I would guess that they are probably guys that have dated outside of their ministries and know what wordly women are like or they are not able to get the woman they want inside their own ministries, due to competition with other pastor's sons, missionaries, etc.

Jehovah's witnesses will marry anyone that is one. Location matters very little. They get to mingle during their international conferences and missions.

These are my initial thoughts at least, I would like to see what others know.

Someone more knowledgeable then myself should make a thread about him. Seems quite the anomaly.

Interesting insights. I've always seen it as just cause-and-effect, but I do think there's something more to it. The dynamics of Church romances are hard to decipher, it's hard to see what all's going on underneath the I-kissed-dating-goodbye asexual vibe you find at church.. definitely not as straight-forward as garden variety secular American dating scenarios of pump-and-dumps, FWB, AFBB, etc.

Of course Tebow will marry a blonde princess, top tier white men don't marry out. White men who are open to dating out like some of us on these boards? Beta/omega/gamma? Nah indeed, I am just a breed apart. TravelerKai, black men like you, white men like me, we're all mostly a different breed in this community from mainstream America, including mainstream American church circles. I don't mean to sound sanctimonious, it's just our brains are built quite differently from these people, although this trend may indicate that there are more men like us in church circles than I had previously thought.

I'm coming back into the Church (actually I never left, was just going to a very small church with only older married folks for a while), making new single friends, prayer partners, etc. Church girls are a weird crowd alright. I no longer optimistically seek out girls at church, too many recent returners and feminist influences for my taste, but this missionary dating is no fluke.

Back in my more mainstream evangelical days, I had the opportunity to do a short-term missions trip to either Africa or South America. Although I speak soft Spanish, I chose Africa, mainly because I knew the most blighted sub-saharan African communities is where volunteer help is most pressingly needed. But a smaller part of that decision was because of my fairly neutral/platonic impulses towards most African females compared to the fact that many, many Latin American women drive me wild! I didn't want to be distracted by a non-stop barrage of tempting females while doing the Lord's work, but screw it, apparently that's where I went wrong in life. I'm starting to see this trend all over. And you are correct in that there is competition amongst PKs, missionaries, and other people pretty tight inside church circles, and they do have a reputation/image to keep up. It's hard.

Anyways, yeah, just some thoughts, perspectives from my red pill Christian eyes.
