Grown men and their sneaker collections: Beta or Not?

I dont want to step on any toes of forum members who may be into this, different strokes for different folks.....
But its kind of lame.... Specially people who just collect them and never wear them... couldn't you collect something a little cooler? Maybe notches or bitches numbers.

While I don't think it's beta, I do think you're a herb if you collect stuff.

Entourage taught me about collecting sneaks/kicks ... before that I was just vaguely aware of old Jordans being valuable, turns out it goes WAYYYYY beyond that.

I think you can make exceptions for:
Rare books
High end watches from the black market
Timeless cars

Who cares? I know a guy who collects sneakers, dude isn't beta at all. He has a nice finished and heated garage at his condo with a wall full of shelves of shoes.
Just because you think something's stupid, lame, girly, whatever it doesn't make it beta. It just means you don't like it.
Collecting things can be stupid if you can't afford it, or if you let it take over your life. But that isn't the same thing.
I guarantee you every person here does shit that a significant chunk of the population thinks is stupid, a waste of time and money, etc. Who gives a fuck what they think?
Be your own man and don't waste time worrying about what other people do.
...What's with all these threads with people asking if shit that has nothing to do with women is beta? Jesus.

Am I the only one who thinks sneakers are for children? Look at their bright, garish colours, and space-age designs. Add to that the weakness of the shoe itself, plus the fact they age about as well as an American woman. Three months in and you look like a hobo, I need a longer lifecycle than that.
And don't say 'comfort'. That's the same argument used to justify onesies.

I got into sneakers in 5th grade and basically had every new pair that came out all throughout high school. I always had tons of them. Jordan's, Air Max's you name it.
I didn't really collect them, I wore them all. It was just something I was always into.
Back then you hardly ever saw people with the same kicks as you, maybe Jordan's but even then you still didn't see many. and I'm from a fairly big urban area.
Right around when I graduated HS in 2000 is when they started to really do the 'retro' release thing at a very limited scale once every few months. Sometimes stores would only get like 10 pairs each. I hardly ever saw anybody when I would go and buy them, and I could call and reserve a pair if I couldn't make it early enough.
It pretty much stayed that way up until maybe 2006ish. This is when all the Dunks and Air Force 1's were being released. The scene grew but was still kinda underground.
Fast forward to maybe 2008/2010 - Present. Everybody and their mother is a 'sneakerhead'. Girls, 45 year old uncles, the little poor kid in the projects, everybody.
It's so played out it's stupid, not at all fun anymore...almost pathetic. But I'm someone that was into it since before it was a 'thing'.

It's lame. Not beta but a sign of something-not-quite-right.
I think it's the male equivalent of a girl in her 20s and 30s still clinging to her attitudes and behaviors of when she was 16 - overly dependent, princess complex, etc. I think we can all agree that that is a collective social malaise of most Western girls. It's a shame it's rubbing off on men too, but that is to be expected by social movements after all.
It's a sign of not acknowledging your maturity and moving on to more age-appropriate hobbies. I see this with weird 30 year old men still skateboarding too and wearing this as a badge of honor because they're "not doing what society tells them." Trust me, if anyone hates society telling them what to do it's me, but sorry, not outgrowing kiddie hobbies when you're way too old is not a big fuck you to society.
Hey you! Wake up! You're 30+ and still collecting Kid Robot figurines, sneakers or skateboards? Sorry bud, your priorities are in the wrong place!

I collect books and films. Both support growth and can be shared, even replaced.

weambulance has my point of view. Live and let live. People like doing or collecting different things. He's not collecting high heels or those pony things so I don't see this as beta.
