Sony cancels the release of "The Interview"

Of course, to expand on the above, there's always the possibility that someone in power did pull strings to get the project going in the first place to illicit what they knew would be an irrational reaction of some type. These guys are a lot smarter than me, so who knows. The whole entire thing could be an underhanded act of provocation.

An interesting thing is Americans can't take a joke. Whenever there's a foreign movie/tv show that makes fun of them or criticizes an aspect of their culture, it's automatically labelled anti-Americanism and whatnot. And yet, Hollywood movies are full of trollish, foreign-bashing material.Just think of how Russians are portrayed in the movies or Italians.

I was cracking up when they had Denzel Washington's character being targeted by the "Russian mafia" in Training Day. Really? [Image: lol.gif]

I actually liked Mitt Romney's idea: Sony should stream it for free online and ask everyone to voluntarily donate $5 to fight Ebola.

The fact that some theaters had physical copies of the movie means it's going to get out eventually. The question is whether Sony will get any profit and/or good will for its release.

The people blaming it on the American government or the US as a country need to realize that the hackers completely demolished Sony. They have all their payroll information, all the internal records of communications between the execs, and god knows what other secrets. I am surprised people are missing this part. I believe Sony execs are hiding behind "terrorist threats" excuse because the hackers probably have some really good (bad for the company) dirt on them. Think about it, their entire systems were compromised, information, trade secrets, future strategies/tactics, and so much corporate information was stolen. I am sure behind the scenes the hackers told them if you release this movie we will put up all this information on the web Wikileaks style. That's the real reason for the shelving of this movie, not because "the government is weak" or the execs/cinema owners are worried about terrorist attacks.

Unless the hackers have something incriminating on the company, Sony should get its shit together, bolster its online security and stream the movie for $10 per view. Hell even I would pay that and stream it. This should be used as an opportunity by Sony to bypass the middleman (theaters) and try-out a new business model. Make movies and stream them online for a modest amount. Going to the movies is not even that cheap anymore if you buy popcorn/snacks and the tickets alone are $12-$13 for regular (non-IMAX) screenings in Canada.

^I doubt they would upload their trade secrets, but so be it. This theory makes sense.

Why wouldn't they? The hackers got absolutely nothing to lose. They already released email communications between execs which while resonated with a lot of us (calling Jolie entitled etc.) have to be embarrassing for the company and the execs still have to work with these Hollywood stars. I would bet there is a lot more damaging information like that which can be released (they already released Sony's tactics on fighting torrents).

The hackers also have all the private information of their employees. To me it's clear that the company is using terrorist threats as an excuse to not have more information released.

^ I meant i doubt Sony would upload their trade secrets on an online platform. If hackers got a hold of them, they would sell it whether sony pulled the Interview or not. Those things are too valuable to be kept in the same place with employee records, because not even the IT department is supposed to have access to them, and they are too valuable for the hackers not to distribute in exchange for sony pulling a movie.

You are acting like Sony would create a folder called "Trade Secrets" and dump everything there lol. Come on. It's about internal reports/memos/email communications etc. They already released Sony's future strategies/tactics to fight torrents and online piracy. They didn't only steal their employee information. They stole all their corporate information. Also, most companies create different level of intranet for their employees. Enter-level shmucks get access to the most basic information and materials that they need to do their job. Execs work on a different level of intranet than the average worker in their company which is supposed to be more secure and only few people have access to it.

I sense that there is going to be trouble coming from the release of this movie.
I don't think many people realize just how fanatical and serious the North Koreans are when it comes to the Kim family. They are venerated as virtual gods.

I'm not saying that the movie should not be released. I'm just saying that people are seriously underestimating the fanaticism of the North Koreans. They take this stuff very seriously.

I saw Seth Rogen's interview on Bills Maher's show when he was promoting the movie and in his research he found that North Koreans are told that the "Supreme Leader" wrote 200 books, knows everything about everything, and the best part of it all doesn't even need to take a dump everyday (not use washroom) [Image: lol.gif].

North Korea does not exists in a bubble. IF North Korea internet gos down it is because China cut it off. Simple. Likely China is slapping the wrist of its rouge little brother, likely from the fact Chinese interest may have investment ties with SONY Pictures. Alibaba has $3 Billion it wants to pour into entertainment and has had close talks in partnering with Sony and Lionsgate as its chief partners. The goal is to make Chinese-English media products to be distributed globally just as how American products are.

This is China flexing its real power while the USA just sits back and talks fluff. The reality is the USA is helpless in this. Any type of cyber "retaliation" would have to route through China which isn't going to happen. The opposite is true in that China had to have seen the traffic route through from N.K. towards America. It would be dumb for China not to monitor what N.K. is doing since it has such limited channels to actually connect to internet, but China, it likley did not give a shit.

Looks like they will be screening it and doing VOD.

Within minutes of these tweets, news emerged that Sony Pictures was planning to announce a theatrical release and VOD strategy. Promotional pages for The Interview, namely the movie's Twitter page, also started come back online.

Details remain vague about exactly how many theaters will be screening The Interview. An unnamed sourced told The New York Times "it appeared unlikely that big chains like Regal or AMC would come on board but that Sony was likely to patch together distribution for the film in 200 to 300 smaller theaters." That's better than none.

Seriously, how many people would have given two shits about this film if not for the publicity generated by this non-story?

This is a definite New World Order full-on vaudeville show being played on the masses.

First, it's declared a threat to the public. Then you have Obama saying Sony should have released it - although it's technically been deemed a public threat. You'd think the left would be trying to have it not be released, but they don't care. Kim Jong-Un isn't high on their list. SWPL's are probably looking forward to this movie more than anyone since it's going to appeal to their type of sardonic humor with lots of loud fake laughter after each punch line.

Imagine if a film was made about an immigration program that only brings in attractive foreign women - the feminists would literally hope there was some sort of an attack on men who watched it.

If anything, it shows that the left has gone all-out SJW the past few years and that relations with so-called "rogue nations" are irrelevant since they hold absolutely zero bearing on the SJW agenda. Off topic, but whatever happened to old SJW fascinations like free Tibet?

Only a select # of Hollywood films(I think 20) are allowed to be shown in Chinese exhibitors and a time of their choosing. Actors/directors/artists that are on the "free tibet list" have toned down their rhetoric tremendously otherwise projects they are involved in will not get chinese distribution. There are few exceptions.

The same for anti-islam rhetoric, this is why you see the same pandering from hollywood stars fighting guys like Bill Maher on it. If they say anything then their movie gets pulled from any growing oversees market(Indonesia/Malaysia/Turkey etc)
