There are tests for ebola but I'm not sure the length of time for a result to come or even how accurate a portable test kit would be.

To be honest it's quite difficult to even contract Ebola. Other than receiving direct fluids from an infected person, eating meat infected or using a syringe.

If someone can find and post a case study or document specifically citing how a person was infected other than the three general method of transmissions I listed above then please do so. The news wont say how this man in Dallas was infected.

The guy caught it when transporting a family member infected with Ebola to the hospital and back home as the relative could not be admitted to the hospital. His relative died the next day from Ebola.

When you know Ebola is transmitted through bodily fluids, and you have Thomas Eric Duncan (patient 0) vomit all over the sidewalk, the way to treat his Ebola infected vomit is chlorine, or at least soap and water.

Hitting it with cold water from a power wash spray and whipping it into an aerosol is just asking to get some of that infected vomit onto yourself, infecting yourself in the "cleanup".

Might also want to wear more protective clothing during the cleanup than...er, a baseball cap.

And maybe tell the locals not to walk through the Ebola vomit runoff in their sandals.

And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

Guys, I'd like to note that at the end of the day, skin. is. porous. I wouldn't be surprised if superficial contact was causing infections judging on the breakdown earlier in the thread of how Ebola reproduces

Not to ask awkward questions, but doesn't Ebola qualify as a Sexually Transmitted Disease?

Women can get it for sure from men...for up to 7 days after symptoms disappear. So I'd presume men can get it from women although less likely.

I'd never in hell want to test it. A horrifying death for which there is no cure.

And also, several doctors have now predicted rapid expansion into other 3rd-world countries that don't have the heavy medical firepower to put out local flareups.

Mexico? Brazil? India?

Oh crap.

No. A sexually transmitted disease is one that's transmitted primarily via sex. Hence the words "sexually transmitted disease".
If it's an STD, so is the flu.

General: If Ebola Reaches Central America, 'There Will Be Mass Migration into the U.S.'

Why fly Ebola patients in to the U.S. when you can just have them walk over in waves.

Quote:Quote:

Those looking for good news on the fight against Ebola will not find much encouragement from Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly, the commander of the U.S. Southern Command. As Jim Garamone of Department of Defense News reports, Kelly told an audience at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday that, if the disease reaches Central America, "it’s literally, ‘Katie bar the door,’ and there will be mass migration into the United States." He also said with certainty that "there is no way we can keep Ebola [contained] in West Africa."
-------
“By the end of the year, there’s supposed to be 1.4 million people infected with Ebola and 62 percent of them dying, according to the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention]..."

“So, much like West Africa, it will rage for a period of time,” Kelly said.

This is particularly possible scenario if the disease gets to Haiti or Central America, he said. If the disease gets to countries like Guatemala, Honduras or El Salvador, it will cause a panic and people will flee the region, the general said.

“If it breaks out, it’s literally, ‘Katie bar the door,’ and there will be mass migration into the United States,” Kelly said. “They will run away from Ebola, or if they suspect they are infected, they will try to get to the United States for treatment.”
-------
Kelly said that human trafficking could be an additional wrinkle in the battle to contain the disease. He related a disturbing anecdote from a recent visit to Central America where some men from Liberia were headed to the United States:
-------
Also, transnational criminal networks smuggle people and those people can be carrying Ebola, the general said. Kelly spoke of visiting the border of Costa Rica and Nicaragua with U.S. embassy personnel. At that time, a group of men “were waiting in line to pass into Nicaragua and then on their way north,” he recalled.

“The embassy person walked over and asked who they were and they told him they were from Liberia and they had been on the road about a week,” Kelly continued. “They met up with the network in Trinidad and now they were on their way to the United States -- illegally, of course.”

Those men, he said, “could have made it to New York City and still be within the incubation period for Ebola.”
-------
Earlier this year, General Kelly gave some chilling testimony about the limitations on the United States's ability to protect the southern border:
-------
In spring hearings before the Senate and House Armed Services Committees, Kelly said that budgets cuts are “severely degrading” the military’s ability to defend southern approaches to the U.S border. Last year, he said, his task force was unable to act on nearly 75 percent of illicit trafficking events. “I simply sit and watch it go by,” he said. But the potential threats are even greater. Kelly warned that neglect has created vulnerabilities that can be exploited by terrorist groups, describing a “crime-terror convergence” already seen in Lebanese Hezbollah’s involvement in the region.
-------
While Centers for Disease Control director Tom Frieden recently expressed some optimism in the fight against Ebola in West Africa, he acknowledged that "globally, this is going to be a long, hard fight."

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

This Ebola thing is being blown way out of proportion in my opinion.

And I notice that its usually coming from Fox News talking heads who think they know more about infectious diseases than actual scientists, doctors and CDC specialists.

^^^^^The CDC director came onto Fox News to try to talk about the truth about the virus by basically subconsciously telling the reporter "dude, as long as your daughter isn't sleeping with the patient, she isn't getting Ebola"

^^^^Good God, what's with the fear mongering???

I understand that Fox News is a right-wing network and their whole thing is about selling fear and blaming the President for everything, but goddamn!

Also I never heard Liberal news networks blaming Ronald Reagan in the 80's for having allowed AIDS into the U.S. from Africa.

That Dallas case happened about 10 miles south of my apartment. My hot Chinese accounting professor is terrified of Ebola, talks about it every class, I need to brush up on my apocalypse survival game. Install some air filters and uv lights and invite her to start sleeping at my place where it's safer.

The spread of Ebola was absolutely intentional. There's simply no other explanation for the utter ineptitude displayed by the U.S. government in handling the issue.

They want an Ebola pandemic in the United States. But for what ends? Population reduction? Expansion of federal emergency powers? A plausible cover story for an impending economic collapse? Who knows. I guess we'll find out. I have a feeling this is only the beginning. It will be impossible to contain this thing once it hits a certain number of infected.

There's also the nightmare scenario heavy posted above about hordes of infected Mexicans and Central Americans pouring over the border. That will be fun to deal with. I mean, we couldn't keep them out by force, right? That would be racist!

Anyway, I'm not ready to call this a Doomsday scenario, but if this Ebola continues to spread unchecked it will certainly be a major black swan event that will have enormous repercussions for the entire world. People treating this like it's no big deal are terribly mistaken. This is a cause for major concern and the stakes are enormous. I pray to God it comes under control soon, because if not things are going to get extremely ugly.

If this was indeed intentional, if the US was involved ,you really think they're going to try and controlling it. I honestly think bringing ebola patients to once center off shore from the states would of been a better idea then spreading them out around the country.

Look what happened in Spain, does anyone know how she got it ? Even if she was in protective gear ?

Federal officials said Wednesday that they would begin temperature screenings of passengers arriving from West Africa at five American airports, beginning with Kennedy International in New York as early as this weekend, as the United States races to respond to a deadly Ebola outbreak.
Travelers at the four other airports — Washington Dulles International, O’Hare International, Hartsfield-Jackson International and Newark Liberty International — will be screened starting next week, according to federal officials.

The screenings, which will include taking the passengers’ temperatures with a gun-like, noncontact thermometer and requiring them to fill out a questionnaire after deplaning, will be for people arriving from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, the three countries hardest hit by the epidemic.

Now? And only for pax from West Africa? Airport security in BURMA has been using the ray gun temperature scanner for months, and there aren't any flights coming from Africa. There is a reason the US gov't has not taken this seriously from the start.
