Quest for perfect selfie leads to attempted suicide

Yet another story that shows how sites like Facebook and Instagram are fucking up young minds:
Quote:Quote:
A teenager became so obsessed with taking the perfect selfie he tried to kill himself when he failed to do it.
Danny Bowman, 19, spent 10 HOURS a day taking up to 200 snaps of himself on his iPhone.
He dropped out of school, didn’t leave his house in six months, lost two stone trying to make himself look better for the camera and became aggressive with his parents when they tried to stop him.
Finally, in a drastic attempt to escape his obsession, Danny took an overdose – but was saved by his mum Penny.

I probably shouldn't give a shit but it bothers me that an otherwise good-looking lad with all his future ahead of him is acting out as an omega male.
It's not even a choice anymore: Kids like this desperately need to find game and sites like RVF.

Reason #5,637,980 not to be taking 'selfies' as a man and posting on social media.
Gay gay gay.
Leave it to the girls. What self-respecting man takes countless photos of himself in the mirror?
Yea, I've taken some post-workout photos before to get an idea if my body is actually improving, but to that extreme? Wtf
God help these kids.

@Mcqueen - Yeah I might send photos of me after the gym to girls I'm banging or even the occasional dick pic but that's it. Social media is just gay in general. I really worry for the kids who were raised on this social media shit.

I'm not sure how much of this can be blamed on social media. Thirty years ago this kid would have just killed himself over trying to get his hard just right for class picture day.

If he spent as much time in the gym as he did taking "selfies" he wouldn't be dead right now. Loser.

As women gain power in society men are forced to become Übermasculine or more feminine in order to differentiate themselves from the crowd. This "man" obviously chose the latter.

He is alive. Note "attempted" suicide
While shaming is a useful tool, consider that the kid is still very young - 19. What were you like at that age?
At 19, you are still essentially a product of your environment. I have younger brothers and much as I try to steer them in the right direction, it's toxic out there. Much worse than when I was a teenager.

Good point. I hadn't thought of this angle. This is how things are getting here in Japan - the other day I saw a guy wearing platform heels and I think he was actually straight.

He didn't kill himself that's good, now he just needs someone to knock him over with a wooden club so he can get back to his senses.

dreambig, I will be turning 20 in September and I don't consider myself to be 'essentially a product of my environment' but I can absolutely see what your getting at in terms of a general rule. I don't take offence because based on my experience what your saying is indeed somewhat true. It is absolutely toxic out here and I feel like I am fighting a direct battle with this culture on a daily basis. I fear particularly for my younger brother who is 15 and at a very impressionable and susceptible age. I do my best to mentor him but obviously some of the ideals can be difficult to bring to a 15 year old so I pick and choose accordingly. Fortunately we have a great a relationship and he idolises me so I am hoping I can do significant damage control and prevent the toxicity having any lasting effect.
However I recognise that sometimes I will be dismissed due to my age until I reach the age where people older than me cannot rebut with 'it's because your young'. This is typically used against me by people older than me when they are clearly losing an argument as a sort of 'trump card'. I am resigned to the fact that in most cases it is simply me presenting a red pill viewpoint and battling against the opinion of a sheep fed by societal control measures and other crap.
I was red pill before I stumbled across this forum. I have always been a natural leader in all my athletic pursuits, particularly basketball. I have proven myself time and time again to the people I am closest to. I am constantly working hard to better myself, to establish a career path and just become the best person I can be in all facets of life. I try to encourage and inspire all my boys to do they same. I wake up everyday blessed to have the chance to face the challenges of the day.
I must acknowledge that this forum has become an important part of that and I take time everyday to soak up the wisdom and try to increasingly contribute what knowledge I have. It has definitely helped me up my game for sure. I write this as I have just suffered an injury and am facing a significant rehabilitation period yet again. Maybe that's what compelled me to get some of this out.
Back to the topic, this kid is just a mess, admittedly this is an extreme example but I have seen similar milder traits in the many of the people I went to school with. I know both males and females with an obsession with social media 'selfies' and such. This sort of feminine vanity can spiral out of control and I think easily so due to how much it is accepted and encouraged within social media etcetera.
