Handlebar Mustache: Inherently Douchy?
02-25-2014, 09:03 PM
By douchy, I mean hipster.
The other day when I was doing my weekly facial hair grooming I realized I could to a short handlebar (no curl). If I were to do this, I would trim the connecting hairs to the goatee, and keep the chin hair.
My issue with the idea came when I started watching youtube videos on the subject. Every single "man" in the videos was a feminized, metrosexual bitch. I want go go with the Captain Morgan look, but I don't want to be associated with hipster pussies.
Thoughts?

A handlebar moustache instantly puts any man below 60 years old on the hipster spectrum. Avoid this look unless you're going niche.

There is no other reason for this fad other than that people want attention.
It's not a symbol of rebellion, punk, or any other kind of meaning.
It's not even a "look how aloof I am.. I don't care how I look!" or "look at how orginal I am" thing.
It's just "look at me".
Trend pure and simple.
Does it help any guys to get laid?
I don't know if it helps, but I do know a guy who has one.. but he get's laid mostly from his low-level fame in the hipster scene.

What's a true handlebar mustache? I've seen the term used to describe what these hipsters wear, but I've seen it applied overwhelmingly more to describe the type of mustache worn by Paul Teutel (like a goatee, but with a bald chin). Those kind are nifty.

Hair trends are weak. Decades hence someone will be laughing at someone else's "look." Look at tryhards from 20 years ago. Shallow, yet cool at the time... immediately dated scant years later.
Go with something classic that befits your facial structure and complements your physique and frame.

Some girls have a thing for those mustaches. It will get you a into a niche.
Go for it. Yes you will look like a hipster.
But you gotta have the rest of your shit together. You have to have a dapper eccentric style to go with the mustache

Unless you are wearing a nice tux, using a cane, and wearing a monocle, you are a hipster fag

If you're urban, hipster douche.
If you're country, cowboy / wrangler / redneck.
Best mate has one. He's 6ft4 and jacked as hell. Looks like he's stepped out of Marlboro Country. Does damn well with the ladies.

I think there's too much "hipster" hating on the forum
It's a part of game that can help and you're limiting yourself

It can be a form of peacocking. I know a Hipster-Alpha with such a mustache, though there are only few Alphas among the hipster-crowd.

The thought is 1 part trying something different, 2 parts peacocking. I just worry that it's going to attract the "wrong" type of chicks. Guess I'm just gonna have to dive in and try it out. I can always shave it off and go back to my usual circle beard.
