I am going to UBER-DHV the shit out of Manila. Thanks a ton for the tip.

My question is do you really still need to 'impress' the girls in Manila? I mean even in your scenario she was already willing to go back to your place right?

Well it certainly can't hurt. Sure, the girls are easy here, but the hot ones who are educated aren't just going to fuck any ol' white dude.

For example, while in Makati last week I had a pool at my apt. One girl came over, was texting beforehand asking if there was a pool and I told her there was. When she arrived she pulls out a bikini out of her bag, and 20 minutes later we're hands all over each other in the pool.

Shit like high end car service, pools, and dressing well only make it that much easier.

Not to thread jack, but in Uber there is Uber and UberX. At least in DC. UberX is the corolla type car and it is cheaper than a taxi. There is almost no reason to use taxis here. What other Asian countries have Uber?

Clubs are empty in Manila on New Years eve. Empty!

New Years seems to be much more of a family holiday and not a get drunk with you friends and party holiday.

I had no idea.

Yes, NYE is definitely a family holiday. I remember we used to gather at my uncle's house and set off fireworks and afterwards have dinner and watch the news to see who got their hands blown off by holding on to their firecrackers a little too long. If you are going to be around there next NYE, it might be better to invite a girl over especially if your condo has a killer view.

Oh, and if you get a break from work, try to take a mini trip to Baguio, Subic, Cebu or Palawan! My uncle always said "You've never truly seen a country until you've been to it's countryside."

Also, thanks for the Uber info... gotta try that one out! Waiting for a taxi at Mega Mall during rush hour sucks puwet.

I know some of you guys, like DD, have lived in both Manila and Bangkok.

How does the cost of living compare between the two? I'm looking at short term, full service condo stays and the rents look similar in both places. About $700-1100 monthly for a nice studio with all the amenities.

If the rent costs are a wash, are the day to day expenses also similar? I'm talking about living in the bubble of each place.

Last night after midnight I picked up one of my girls and decided to take her on an adventure. We got on my bike and drove from the Fort, down to Pasay past the airport, then to Malate, over to Manila City, up to Quezon City, then over to Makati for a bite to eat and then back to the Fort.

I was really happy with myself because I did this all with out ever checking google maps on my phone. That means I know this city pretty damn well now. I have been driving a lot these past few weeks late at night just kind of discovering places and figuring out where things are.

Driving in a city really changes your perspective and knowledge about the city. I now know more about how to get around this city than any girl I have dated (granted most girls are not over 20 and have never driven).

All the girls so far have loved riding on my motorcycle. I am surprised at how many of them have never been on one before, not even an automatic scooter. For some reason that I can't figure out there are just not that many motorcycle/scooters in Manila compared with other cities like Bangkok or Jakarta.

Philippines Peso

My prediction - The peso will be 50 to 1 in the next few years.

The Peso this year broke a long term trend line. It also did so while making a higher low.

On the 1 year chart you can see it has been making higher highs and higher lows. All signs a new trend is in place.

It might be easier to see if we reverse the chart. You can see how it made a lower high in 2012 than in 2007. It has also clearly broken below the old trend line. And now this month we have a confirmation of a trend change when it made a new lower low.

Sure would make things much easier to convert in my head if it was 50 to 1.

How much is a typical cheap meal in pesos?

Cheap meals are hard to come by here in the Fort. You can go to the mall food courts and eat for 200 pesos. There is no cheap street food in the Fort. Not that you would want to eat street food in Manila anyway.

I spend close to 300 pesos or more every time I eat out. Prices on menus here do not include 12% VAT and 10% service charge. So that 300 pesos on the menu comes out to be 366 pesos on the bill.

If you want to eat cheap you have to eat at home.

I know some one is going to come on here and tell me they do it on 100 pesos and they know this place in such and such where you can eat cheap. I am sure they exist. But you will struggle to find it in Fort Bonifacio.

It really depends on what you're looking to eat. But I'll assume by typical you mean what does a local Filipino eat and how much is it.

For like a meat on a stick, hotdog on a stick, etc. is about 25 pesos. Couple that with Chicken Mami (like a Chinese chix soup dish) which is about 30 pesos and you have a meal. Add on bread or something and the total would be like 60-70 pesos.

Here in Cebu they have a local roasted pig dish called Lechon. That can be street food or in a restaurant and range from 40 to 300 or more depending on the place. It's eaten with rice, like everything here.

Other dishes like Chicken Adobo (a type of fried chix) or Pancit are about 40-150 depending on the place.

Good BBQ on a stick joint with rice range from 25 pesos a stick plus 25 for rice.

Mostly their food sucks, but I do like the BBQ dishes.

Western food is much more expensive.

Street food? P60 can get you full. Rice dishes mostly, with either fried milkfish (bangus) or Philippine beefsteak (bistek.)

The typical Big Mac meal would be somewhere around P140.

Edit: spelling

Yeah, one big difference between Cebu and Manila I noticed was that here in Cebu VAT and service is almost always included. Food prices here and eating out are cheaper in general by about 25% in Cebu vs Makati/Fort I think.

Like DD, I almost always eat at Western Style places and spend 200-300 pesos a meal - this is for good Thai, steaks, seafood, Korean, etc.

YardDog. Thanks. You give a pretty good outline of various food possibilities. Personally, I do NOT really care if a restaurant is classified as western or NOT. I am thinking more in terms of eating meat and fats as being good and minimizing the number of carbs in my diet. I would NOT want to eat a lot of bread or rice or noodles....

So if a guy is wanting to eat a lot of meat dishes, and even seafood, I suppose, he is getting into the 300 to 400 peso range per meal if he is eating out?

What do you think about the idea of eating at home, and having a place that has some facilities for cooking? Surely, I do NOT like the work of cooking and cleaning up; however, I was thinking that if i were to stay in the Phils (whether Cebu, Manila or even Davao) for more than a month at at time it may be less expensive to get a place with cooking facilities and have someone cook and shop for me about 3 or more times a week. Then, I would be able to eat better quality food, and be able to chose the kind of food that I wanted.

DD and Rio,

I used to eat at a street food joint damn near every day.

The street i was on in Makati had little aluminum set ups all up and down. Each one tended to have their own set of specialties with basics like chicken adobo. Generally, each serving would be about 40-60 pesos. I would load up on big thick sausages, fried eggs, eggplant and usually a spicy coconut and pork dish. All in all i spent around 200 pesos and that would las about 2 meals.

Its no where near as good as Thailand but it wasn't bad either.

Some days i just had to have some macfonalds.

The Fort, as DD says, is expensive and the food sucks. Its american style restaurants where the food is overpriced and too oily.

Food in the Phils is really lacking. Be prepared to eat chunks of animal fat.

Edit- girls love to cook for you if you have a kitchenette.

I actually like fatty meats, chunks of fat, and organ meats since living in Asia.

Do the bitches cook pretty decent though?

I got to where i only minded it when there would be pieces of the animals hair in it still.

Yes, they can. One girl was studying to be a chef and another was vacationing from her job as a chef for a saudi prince.

Both were great.
