TL;DR VERSION: the University of California system receives Federal kickbacks of $30 MILLION a year for admitting foreign STEM graduate students

What else can I say but Wow.

The fake STEM crisis really deserves it's own thread (in fact I think there are some similar already) but here's a very relevant article:

this is why there is an epidemic of girls in their 20's dating men in their mid to late 30's

praise jesus

i'm lucky.

i've got real skills and real experience and real successes. and a real job.

fuck that, i worked my ass off for it. from my position of male privilege haha

anyway, there is no competition for chicks in their 20's. seems like never before has the deck been so stacked in favor of the 20's/30's relationships.

my gf is 10 years younger than me and my sidepiece #1 is 13.

Even for I.T. jobs, a Math or Physics major would either have to:

A) taken a strong minor or dual-major with Computer Science...or
B) taken official vendor training in specific areas (Oracle, Linux, Java, etc)

I was in (A) when I graduated as an Applied Mathematics major. I took almost all of my electives in Computer Science by the time I graduated. By my junior year, I could see that it was going to be very competitive to get a strictly-Math job AND I would still need a M.S./PhD. I said the hell with that and raided the Computer Science curriculum. I now have 20 years in software engineering.

I clear 3k a month and live with my parents. Less than 5k debt. My Dad owes me 5k so he is paying me back in rent.

My job is only for a year. Why pay 800-1k a month to live alone when I can post up at pops house and bank momey. August come around and if I am not deployed or contracting overseas, I will have 25k in the bank, sell my Ducati and truck, and move the fuck out the US.

As far as getting laid, I fuck em in the truck, the bed of the truck, their place, or get a $40 room. If they cant accept this Army Reservist, 23hr making, international travelling, Veteran, who schemes, breaks bread overseas, who has no kids... lives with his parents to reach his goals.... fuck that bish.

The cycle of disrespect can start with just an appetizer.

Nothing wrong with this situation. When you have your own apartment, which means at the least about $1200 a month in rent in my part of the country, that's nearly $15000 a year gone to make someone else wealthy. Imagine if you had family you could live with for free and you invested that same $15000 a year into an appreciating asset. With the money you're saving you can fly overseas every month and bang(sweeter and more feminine women at that).

"29 percent of people aged 25 to 34 are living with their parents"

That is alot. It also follows that men are twice as likely as women to live with their parents. Bad for the economy and men in general but great if you are in that age and simply 'have your own place' you are already light years ahead for logistics.

Where are you getting that men are twice as likely to live with their parents? That's not my personal experience at all.

From the Pew study that the list refers to:

"Young men and young women are equally likely to fall into this category—40% of men ages 18 to 34 and 38% of women in the same age group either live with their parents now or moved back in for a time because of the economy."

This includes people in this age group who either still live with or at some point moved back in with their parents since the recession.

Actually, for 25-34 who are living with their parents *right now* the figure is 21% in 2010. So, one in five people in their late twenties and early thirties live with their folks.

The figure is much higher for early 20's. Living in NJ suburbia, the majority of young girls in my area still live at home in my experience.

I worded it poorly like it was my own conclusion. That 'twice as likely' thing is in the article...unless I read it wrong, then it wasn't

A thing about the stat saying more males that females are living at home is that there are a ton of girls who live "independent" lives that is heavily subsidized by their dads. Yeah they have their own place, but dad picks up the bills. Another interesting thing is that I consult with gov't offices a good bit with my work. One in particular has a lot of the independent female types, but when they got notified about furloughs, I've never seen a group of women call their dads and boyfriends for help so quick. One girl who was typically rather cold to her boyfriend was as sweet as sugar to him on the phone conversation following the notice.

I explained this once to a broad i was tapping after she inquired how these kids come to her restaurant driving/wearing marked up shit. They don'y pay rent.

Who cares if you live at home or alone.

America is the only country that frowns upon a man living with his parents past 23.

I know people who live with their parents after college for 2-3 years, save bank and then get a house. Now they are doing very well.

I know people who get an apartment right out of college and get a house. They are happy but can't do anything fun because of mortgage payments.

Obviously there is a certain age you should move out. I don't know what that age is. Shit, many people from other cultures don't move out until they get married.

I also believe that many people in STEM jobs don't want to start at the bottom an work their way up. Maybe it's people from China and India that will do it

I agree. I couldn't do it now.

But if you're trying to save money and/or not sure about your future then living at home for a few years is a good option.

I'm 26 and unless it was poverty or living with my parents, I'd always choose living alone. I don't have anything against my parents and get along with them well, but independence is worth a whole lot. Even if living with my parents would give me a shot at even more independence (like saving up to live off the interest or something), I still prefer my current way.
