Need help with credit problem

I have a "collection" on my credit report and it's about $1,100 for a visit to a hospital.

The thing is I was covered by the public healthcare plan. They told me I had to bring in the paper to prove it. But that year I got sick about 8-9 times (tonsil problems) so it was kinda hard because I was always with no energy, in pain, etc.

That was in 2010, I think in 2011 my mother gave them the papers and they told her it would all be fixed. Today I was checking out my credit report and I notice there's a collection (they sent the debt to a collection agency). They had told that it would be fixed. It's 2012.

I know the papers were given late. But still, I was covered so they are trying to get money from me that I don't owe them.

What can I do to fix that? I think this damages my credit very badly.[Image: huh.gif]

Pete, do you have proof you paid the bill? Did you ever receive anything from your insurance provider showing they paid this? That's what the collection agency is going to ask you for, a cancelled check or proof of payment, something that shows a zero balance.

My guess is you don't have anything like that. You'll have to go back to the insurance provider and get this proof, it sounds like a nightmare to me, don't even know if it's possible for you to get it. If you want, PM the info, who the collection agency is, how it looks on your credit report. You didn't say if a collection agency actually contacted you so I would need more details. You may not be understanding what's on your credit report.
