Anybody has had a suit made in Thailand? Do they have good tailors? A friend went was in India for his honey moon and he bought a couple of tailor-made suits fitting like a glove for just peanuts. Wonder if it's the same in the land of smiles.

Check the online review sites (Trip Advisor, etc) which will point you to the diamonds in the rough. I've accompanied friends to get tailoring done in BKK from a Canadian guy who has a shop on Soi 8 called Tailor on Ten and the quality and service is top notch. A little more expensive than the others but worth it - you can get fitted, custom shirts etc for the same prices as higher-end brands off-the-rack.

Round two is about to start. I am booked to fly out tomorrow and have done some serious pipelining. My hotel is 10 mins walk from Terminal 21 and I have 7 dates set up at T21 already (two per day, midday and late night). Some forum members might say this is a bad place or strategy but it has paid off for me and I am comfortable at the place. You can eat, walk around etc, girls think it is a high-end place and always agree to meet me there since it is connected to the skytrain. I am not worried about making them drink or talking them into going back with me. Most of the girls seem eager enough and I want to be pickier this time (except maybe with the 18-19year olds), possibly keeping dates short if I am not overly attracted.
One girl actually has her "going away" party on Thursday before leaving for grad school in Sydney, taking a 4 day trip to the beach and invited me to come along. It is me and her three girlfriends... Sounds like a great setup but even if I do not score I am keen to see the south of Thailand so it is worth it...
On a creepy note, I am going to meet a weird, almost Caucasian looking 44 year old on Saturday. She has extremely attractive pics but I wonder what reality looks like... Good thing there are two 20 year olds on Sunday as a contrast.

@Asaxon sounds like you might have the Thai bug that's hard to get rid of! I am doing the same set up as you since I am there in 3 weeks I have amped up pipelining.... it's almost tiring all these conversations lol. But it has paid off last few days met some real nice ones.
@Rio Nomad.. That Hilton is so nice. It had the biggest beachfront mall in Asia attached to it. That is gonna be interesting going to Pattaya with a normal chick and seeing what you see there. Really crazy city with some intolerable Russian tourists but a thing to see for sure.
I just need some opinions here. Budget wise, I am going for just over 7 weeks. I am planning on spending $3800 Canadian, sound like enough? I wanna be comfortable spending a bit on dates but not going crazy on spending in clubs and bars. I will be staying in hotels for some of the time, and hostels to meet more ppl when I need a break from boring Thai girl conversation. Or if i stay in Bkk for a month I will rent a short term apartment. Which leads to my next question on my itinerary. Is Kuala Lumpur and Singapore worth seeing? I am undecided on whether to stay in Thailand and use my time wisely there or check out a few more countries. Thanks for reading this essay guys.

@Kdog
Because you are staying at least a month get an apartment on airbnb.com or google serviced apartments. No reason to stay in a normal hotel that long. It may even be cheaper with an apartment.

KL and Singapore are nothing to get excited about. If you get bored in BKK then go, but don't go out of your way if you are having a good time.

@RioNomad
That sounds like an awesome set up with the girl! I had something very similar with a rich 26 year old and looking back on it I wished I played it a bit different. My mistake was simply spending to much time with her and eventually having to have the "what are we"/"where is this going" conversation. I think I could have delayed that a lot longer if I would have just kept it to just 1 or 2 days a week instead of the 3 or 4 days a week I was doing. Not sure if this applies to your situation but just something to keep in mind. Sometimes these thai girls are just so pleasant to be around its hard to say no. Especially when they are paying for the high life. Either way man enjoy it.

Don Juan Tenorio,
I have used Prince Tailors on Sukhumvit Soi 3. Initially I was kind of hesitant to deal with these indian tailors but my French buddy there one day took me to that place and told me had done all his shirts there which were very nice. I ended up doing all my shirts there and did at the end a custom made suit. Very good quality, done within 2 days with several fittings to ensure it is well fitting. I paid about 100 bucks for it. Best 100 bucks I've sent while I was in LOS.

Good stuff Asaxon! Looking forward to reading your updates. You guys on the ground are killing me and I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger and joining you guys sometimes in February for a month or so...

Kdog,
3800 for 7 weeks, sounds doable. Just to give you an idea, when I was living there, I was spending about 500$ per week. That was for fun/spending money and not including accommodations. Should be enough if you don't party hardcore. Looking forward to reading your reports.

Happy new year guys!

Kdog, the biggest time waste is the fact that a lot of girls speak very little English... The pipeline conversations are minimal at best (a few exceptions) so I try to get them to meet me after two or three back and forth messages and will confirm via text once I arrive (they always throw out their number).
Budgets can be anything from $30 per day to $1000 per day, including hotels. Food can be had for a few bucks, drinks between 50 cents (supermarket) and $5 for a beer at a club. Normal girls usually cost me about 500 baht ($18) per date if going to a mid level western style venue and you pay for both which seems to be the norm.

Vacancier, thanks. I hope you are going to make it!

I don't get it. They don't speak english, however they are eager to meet you. What are you talking with them on a date? Are they able to hold a conversation?

Vacancier, not sure where you are but I guess all of Namerica and Europe is pretty nasty right now. I will try to stay 6 to 8 weeks with a visa run after 30 days.

Mike, their skill levels vary. You will be hard pressed to find someone to discuss politics or philosophy with...
I usually focus on talk about the food menu, make them tell me about their job and teach me Thai words. Most convos require me to speak pidgeon English (" your work, where is?", " today food nice, yesterday not yummy", "have pool, can swim many hours, want go?") to make it easier for them to understand me. After a while it gets depressing which is why you need western guy friends to talk to unless you speak Thai. DVY actually called me out one day when I had been with a girl too long and asked him " now want go, no?". Talking this way can become a habit quickly but takes conscious effort at first.

Hahah, too funny. You start speaking like Thai ppl. Its kind of interesting how fast your language skills atrophy when you dont use them.

Yea, i just talk a bunch of pidgeon english and bullshit w/girls. And then i have them tutor me in Thai in bed. Its a good pass of an hour or two. Then you go eat and have her tell you what each thing is in thai. You boost your thai level proficiency v. quickly.

By week 1, i could order food, pay for stuff, bargain w/them, etc etc. I speak Chinese, so i have a tonal language background.

Miss Terminal 21 and random mystery meats.

Dont miss the unsteady stomach thats ready to blow any time of the day w/only 2 minutes warning.

I'm a little worried about acccomadation. I'm a little less than 3 weeks out from my 3 week long trip.

I see all these ads for apts and what not that say they are near skytrain but I have also heard that alot of them lie about it and once you get there they aren't nearly as close as the say.

What do you guys suggest???

Book a place for my first night and then walk around the next day?

I mainly plan to be doing internet dates at first but I will probably try out RCA at least once.

Anyone have a go to hotel that they would suggest that isn't too expensive but also close to the skytrain and transporatation?

What "isn't too expensive" for you?

I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?

No more than $40 a night probably. All I want is a stuido type apt style. Nothing too fancy just good logistics is my main concern.

I stayed at Tai Pan hotel first week. soi 23. Its close to terminal 21. Close to skytrain. Close to everything yet its quiet.

Taxi motorbikes at the end of the soi will take you anywhere in sukhumvit for 40 baht (1 dollar-ish). Good way to avoid the ridiculous crowds that form in lower Sukhumvit. Taxis/Skytrain will take you everywhere else

If you go there and bargain w/them in person and pay in cash (Super-Rich is the place to change money w/the best rates in thailand. Sometimes dollar rates are above what you can get at major banks.) youll likely get it to 40 buxs a night.

I think agoda during my time was 55 buxs/night.

If that fails, just hop in and out of the hotels/apts and ask to take a look at their rooms. Travelhardcore was staying at a place soi 7 above a restuarant, that was 800baht/night. (about 23 dollars/night).

Heres the deal, its nice having a maid clean up all your shit. Being a playboy in Asia and having to clean your shit up is a major hassle... They would change my sheets, organize my room, fold my clothes, etc etc. Well worth the extra money and the girls come in and are wow-ed by it. Spic and span. New towels for them to shower with.... the list goes on and on.

There are a few that would fit your budget. If you want to stay on Sukhumvit, Bally's Suites would fit your needs and is within 10 minutes of Asoke BTS station. There are a few "ibis" hotels in BKK that offer small, clean rooms with wifi and are fairly new and well-maintained, around $40 including tax etc. I stayed at the Nana one for one night a few years ago and it was very decent. Another choice would be Nana Ivory in soi 4.
If you are willing to be a bit further out along the Sukhumvit line (say soi 30 and further) hotels and apartments get even cheaper.

Update: connecting at the airport, checking thaifriendly. Got three mails from one planned date claiming a personal emergency and wanting to meet earlier because she is lonely. I asked what was up and she says her mean mean boyfriend just left her today and was a horrible cheater. This from a girl who agreed to go out with me while still with this guy... She seems to not see the hypocrisy...

How are these places about bringing girls back?

Not sure about girls but my places have never made it an issue...my girls do not look like hookers though. Most hotels take the girls' id and that is it

Is paying the monthly fee on Thaifriendly worth it? I hit it up last night and I see a bunch of "cute" girls but none I'm particularly excited about.

I haven't been to thailand yet but I have been planning my trip for the last 3 months and from the information I have gathered it seems tf has alot of decent looking girls that will probably give it up for free but if you want a real thai stunner it seems going to the clubs or rca you will have a better shot.

Went and paid for the membership. Spent the last 8 hours bullshitting with a lot of very cute girls coming out of the woodwork. This might be better than the DR.

I've been checking apartments in abnb and the prices are not cheaper than it could cost you a decent hotel with full service. Do you guys really preffer to rent in spite of travelling alone? I don't see the advantages anywhere (at least for Thailand).

It depends how long you are going to stay. It's much cheaper to rent a place (not through AirBNB though) if you will be here for a couple of months or longer. I pay 12,300 baht, about $410 US, per month for my condo. Same place would probably be anywhere between $25-$40 per night on AirBNB, so I save a lot.
