An idea for the forum

There are so many good travel data sheets here it's easy to lose track of how many there are. I was thinking, what if there was a wiki set up on this site that functions just the same as Wikitravel.com. It would allow guys to enter their data sheets and edit new info easily. Subsequent travelers will be able to quickly pull up the datasheet on that city and edit info if they find something obsolete, or if they want to add new places and info. Also it would be great for things like accommodations, good restaurants, safety warnings and insider info on getting around and all that.

It's awesome that guys are writing up these data sheets on cities around the world, but for some cities that have a lot of info scattered across many posts such as Rio, it would be awesome if it was condensed into one central location such as rooshvforum.network/wiki/brazil/rio or something like that. All the info would be fresh and the latest available without having to sift around for it with the search tool. Wikis are easy to set up. Here is a good one: http://www.mediawiki.org/

I definitely second that, it is a very good idea.

It would be much easier to find the information as opposed to using the search tool here and sifting through search results on the forum. That way the forum could function as a discussion area, and the wiki an information base.

Good suggestion, speakeasy!!

+1 good idea. It would also be good to integrate some of Naughty Nomad's data if he gave permission because he has some pretty great write-ups.
The data sheets should also have certain subjects to cover.

I just tried starting a wikia (datasheets.wikia.com) contribute if you like.

I also added the post I just made to it (http://datasheets.wikia.com/wiki/NewZealand/Auckland)

If roosh doesn't like this I can remove it, but please add a datasheets subforum within the travel forum.

This was discussed before.

I asked who wanted to volunteer to oversee certain countries or cities. No hands went up.

It's a good idea, but it's not going to be regularly updated because the forum's userbase is too small (only about 200 actively participating members). Once that gets to over 1,000 then it would be worth revisiting.

Understand that wiki's need A LOT OF HANDS to stay current and be useful.

I understand the request for a separate Datasheet forum, but I don't like the idea of segregating the content. Instead I have made a change to the Travel Forum FAQ:

Quote:Quote:

2. If you have a quick recap of a city or country, post it on an older thread if one exists. If you have a very detailed recap, post a new thread with the word Datasheet in the subject. This allows other guys to do "titles only" search (e.g. "Rio Datasheet" or "Ukraine Datasheet".)

That should help for now.

Definitely keep hitting me with suggestions (the Meetups and Languages subforum were member ideas). Even if I don't implement them immediately, I still log them in my head.

It would be good to have a Datasheet subforum

My hand goes up for Colombia.
