Altea, Spain- Datasheet

This is a beautiful little city/town about 40km from Alicante. It is on the coast but the beach is pebbly and most people go to Calpe for the beach. The old town is what this city is. An old church sits at the very top of the hill and this is ground zero for Alteas nightlife as well. The old town is little narrow streets, all white buildings, and lots of steps because its on a hill with the church at the top. VERY traditional and beautiful Spanish vibe/feel with a great view from the top. Some expats from other parts of Europe.

The locals are very friendly as I was sitting, eating, drinking, smoking observing one night and when they noticed I was solo they came over and invited me to their table which was pretty cool. Also got in with the local bouncers and bartenders one night and they shared a J with me and wanted to kick it the next day. They don't meet a lot of Americans and were a little in awe. They still wanted to go party in Benidorm (15 minutes away) with me at 7AM and I had to nix that plan. Cool cats though.

Dining: Ousteau-Sits a little below the church and has a garden, courtyard where you must sit as most of the seating is there. Not super expensive either. The place is FLY. If you have had many dining experiences with better food and vibe, I would be surprised. Take a girl there, eat and drink some wine, and if that doesn't set the mood then you are not gonna get it. Ever.

Nightlife: Take any steps you find (little staircases are abundant between the homes) and go UP towards the church and you will find the watering holes. They are all in the plaza right next to the church and within 50-75 yards of each other. Its 4 places I believe. Two are kind of clubby with dancing and the other two are cool bars. Met a FINE Russian chick at one of them who had a heanous friend and they lived in some nearby town, had to drive so couldn't really drink, etc. If I had another night there I could have wrapped it up for sure. Other little packs of hot little Spanish chicks as well but the couple I approached didn't speak English and one was just cold as ice. There is a university there apparently with like 500-1000 kids I want to say I was told, so expect some fanny from there to be out and I saw it as well. The ratio I noticed was slightly more guys than girls it seemed.

Nothing up on the hill starts before 2AM really so dont expect much before.

Overall, this is a beautiful little city with a small concentrated nightlife in a setting you dont party in often. Not speaking Spanish hurt me with the girls but in restaurants, etc it was OK. I actually would love to go back with a good wing for just a few weekend summer nights and do it up. The place is unique, scenic and has a small concentrated nightlife which is pretty fun.

Calpe (5 minutes from Altea) Didn't go out at night there but went one day to the beach and checked the scene. From what I hear, not much of a nightlife. The beach had almost NO girls and was mostly families and little kids running around. Pretty beach with good water but the backdrop of the beach are these high rise apartment/condos which are pretty terrible. Fair amount of fatties, some English, and a dude in a "Don't mess with Texas" shirt. I'm cool on going back but maybe someone knows something I don't.

Cool sheet.

I was up in Altea for the day last summer with a fly girl.

Had no idea there would be any nightlife at all there.

I thought the place was dope. Rolled up in that dope little train they have.

I was thinking it would be an ill place to really max and relax for a month in summertime. But again, I had no idea they had nightlife.

What would you do between dinner and 2am? Or would you just eat at 11:30pm and have a 2 hour dinner?

Did you stay a few nights?

Donde?

That's really what the spot is ideal for. That is, bringing a chick or relaxing. You definitely wouldn't guess that there was nightlife but there was and it went till 7AM on the weekend. The fact there is SOMETHING to do makes even more tempting for a chill spot so you don't get totally bored. However, my problem is if there IS nightlife, I won't stay in. So much for relaxing then.

Yeah, I was there for 3 nights in all. I had a cool apt I found on airbnb that had a sick daybed on the patio.

Late dinner was the move and then I kicked it on the patio of El Raconet which is next to Ousteau and had some folks playing music and a real chill vibe. They moved the party inside at 2AM so it was perfect time to climb the stairs to the top.

Yeah, I literally had no idea. Crazy that it goes till 7am as well.

I need to get into the airbnb thing.

Do you notice that a lot of the apartments in Spain on airbnb don't have internet?

Or is that just me?

That is so crazy the action is at the top.

So everyone just walks up all those stairs at 2am?

Then back down in the morning?

Seems really strange. But kind of cool.

Airbnb is clutch in most areas. Some spots it's still not that widely used such as the smaller beach cities in Croatia which don't seem to have gotten into it yet. It's a must: VERY user friendly, they escrow the money for you until you sleep there, there customer service is excellent.

The first spot I was going to stay in Barcelona here wasn't up to snuff upon arriving. Despite me not supposed to get a refund, I called airbnb, sent them pics, and walked out. They refunded me in total in about 12 hours.

In regards to internet, you just check the "internet" field under amenities to filter them. Yes, many do not, but it's getting better. Just about ALL of the nicer ones do though.

To solve this though, pick this up, Zoom USB Broadband Modem and get a local DATA ONLY SIM card when you arrive somewhere. Internet problem solved.

More advanced if you want wifi etc, check my post here. http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-12634-page-3.html

I guess most people do and I think a lot of them live on the hill at some point. I did walk all the way down with a couple cats at the end of the night though.

The Russian chick I met up there drove up. She was caked up for sure as well as she told me she was divorced and I could tell how she carried herself. I think there may be more chicks like her up there.

Overall, it was dope to be partying up there for sure.
