Poland is not perfect and you may get looks but avoid the areas where the Polish fans congregate and you will be fine. Most the the racist types will be watching the games or at the stadium so it will probably be easier to avoid trouble now compared to another time. Most of the footballe fans you meet will be friendly and up for a laugh. Racist groups are present in significant numbers with the Polish Russian and Ukranian teams, beware the Italian hooligans as they are dirty cunts who will stab you when your not looking but many of the Italian ultras are too stupid to have a credit card or passport.
Poland is not too much of a problem, The east of Ukraine though is a fucking liability and any blackman there will be made to feel unwelcome.

No idea, but if you aren't interested in the football, why not wait until after the games? Accommodation will probably be cheaper and everyone will be less stressed out.

Dutch team was subjected to monkey chants in practice yesterday, welcome to Poland! Agree with Billy about the Italian fas being utter filth. I've been out to Italy following Chelsea and the Italian fas were right cowardly little chavs trying to pick fights with the more elderly Chelsea fans or men with their kiddies with them in the town centre and always in groups. Retards.
The good thing about EE ultras is that they have a policy for the most part of not targeting people who don't want to
fight. I'ts more about organized fights however people of color could be targeted. I would not let it put you off going though. Those racists are there all the time, they don't become thugs at tournaments only so you could take a kicking 365 days a year. I think you will be fine just don't hang out in the Krakovia club house!

I believe with the media attention the Euro will bring, Poland and Ukraine will have a heavy police presence to ensure nothing bad happens to tarnish their image overseas so ironically now would be a very safe time to go there. Plus, you'd have hordes of foreign talent to have fun with. I'd say go there, don't worry but do keep an eye out at all times like you would in any place anywhere. Enjoy the games and enjoy the festivities and the talent and report here how it was.

Surprised at the racism against blacks in Poland. It was one of the most race friendly places in Eastern Europe.
Then again, I wouldn't judge a culture based on drunk soccer fans.

Personally speaking, I think the story to come out of these championships for the people attending will not be one of being attacked by racist thugs but one of the friendliness and hospitality of the local Polish and Ukrainian people. It will also go a long way to bringing the Ukraine into the conciousness of Western Europeans. The Ukraine is still the wild east to the average British/French/Spanish citizen, the place still conjures images of salt mines and industrial shit holes to the unaware. However for the first time vast numbers of Western Europeans will be seeing places like Lviv/Kiev/Kharkiv etc. and realising that there are some magnificent places East of the Danube. They will also meet some great friendly people and have their image of dour alcoholic thugs dispelled. In one way as a proud European I think that is great, however on a selfish level it means the cat will soon be out of the bag and it will never get back in it.

If you don't like it, stay at home. Easily solved. Exactly why I'm not planning a trip to South Africa or Zimbabwe: different people and different attitudes. But I respect that. Should everyone conform to your Weltanschauung so you can feel safe in order to game other peoples' girls?

pretty sure he wasn't saying everybody conform to me, but asking if he would be safe, legitimate concern for anybody. Don't know what got ya so worked up
Not worked up, but pointing out that if he is so concerned about his safety in Polska, better just stay home. Risking one's life in order to game girls: stupid. But, realistically, the worst he'll get probably will be some stares; after all, most people revel in cowardice.

Racism is pathetic and there's no excuse for it, you can't write it off as just being 'part of the culture' and tell people thats how it is so don't go if you don't like it.

Well, 'part of the culture' is not a way I would put it; in fact, it's an evolutionary strategy. Culture is a racial construct. No amount of denial will change that fact. Don't get me wrong, but I'm sure americanineurope is a cool chap: after all, he has good taste in cars -- in fact, if I'm not mistaken, he drives a Nissan gtr. Oh, and let's not forget: he made the move to Europe and notices its superiority over America in terms of 'living,' but he will never be European nor will he be accepted as such by the majority of indigenous Euros despite perhaps superficial approval. Just being a realist here.

Wroclaw is only hosting 2 more matches at euro 2012 and they are both in the next 7 days.
By the time you get there euro 2012 will be over for Wroclaw at least.
Not a great time to visit the town though. The students will have left by now.
I left Wroclaw about 2 weeks ago

I don't know how to embed video but here is the Russian fan fight that happened after the Russia v Czech Rep. match. A couple of stewards took a good kicking off of the thugs but fair play to the them as they got straight back up afterwards. It kicked off in the fan park in Lviv too apparently. With Russia looking like they will go far in the tournament it could lead to a lot more of this.

His post clearly reads Italians not Italian Hooligans... anyway I don't wanna make too much fuss about this, I realize billy (and the thread in general) was talking about hooligans and is clearly upset. I just think he really crossed the line with the comment he made.
That being said, I really hate football ultras and the whole hardcore supporters mentality. I don't mind football itself (which is HUGE here in Italy) and I could easily go on a rant about how it has poisoned lots of people and basically shaped them into football ever-loving drones who stay hooked on eurosport football matches 24/7 but I understand this thread is not about this.
With that in mind I'd recommend the OP to steer clear from any fanboys/hardcore supporters and enjoy his stay in Poland. Please report back on any noteworthy adventures you have there.
