Well I am a few days past the initial 30 day challenge I decided to do. I think I am gonna stick with cold showers from here on out. Hot showers can be very relaxing but are hard on my skin. Cold showers seem pretty manly and always leave me feeling ready to get shit done.
Any one else stick with the 30 day challenge?

I've noticed every time I feel like shit, a cold shower will change that considerably. It's pretty therapeutic.

Another thing the cold showers work great for is curing a hangover. Last week I drank like crazy and the following morning wanted to shoot mysefl in the head. Nothing was working. I took a cold shower, absorbed the shock, gasped for air like mad and boom! it cured my hangover almost entirely.
Truth.I may have mentioned it earlier in the thread but I got all kinds of wasted on New Years Eve a few years ago and was VERY hung over the next day. I had made it a little tradition to jump into the freezing Atlantic ocean on January 1st. Even tho I felt like death I made myself go out and jump in the ocean and it was freezing. However when I got out an toweled off I felt like I was ready to run a marathon! I felt alive and well. So I totally agree with cold cold water being a great hang over cure.

For anyone that's been doing it for a while and has done research on cold showers - do you wet your head/hair under the cold shower too, or do you switch to slightly warmer? I noticed mild brain-freezing type of feeling when I spend any more than 10 seconds straight with my head under the cold shower.

It's been 3 days in a row since I'm doing this. It's something you need to learn to love, much like running or going to the gym. I'm not staying 10 minutes yet, but I've learned that for me the best way to proceed is to go all in with my body in the cold ass water.

I have probably passed the 30 days now. Or just about. I am still taking cold ass showers! Albeit in the northern summer when it is much easier.
Yeah, it feels great and I am going to continue.
The health benefits are hard to prove but cold showers are certainly doing no harm that I can see.
And when I was overseas, staying in a hotel with only hot shower water, I found myself longing for the cold.
But the winter is going to be tough..,

I've finished the challenge.
As things stand, I'm going to stick with the cold showers. I can't say I've felt any physical differences with my muscles or any real energy boosts aside from waking the hell up first thing in the morning.
But there's definitely a psychological 'high' after finishing. And it becomes much more bearable after my body acclimates to the temperature.
Also, the lack of steam in the bathroom is a definite plus.
It should be very character-building as the months get colder.

I've been taking cold showers for about 2 months now. I've noticed I'm sweating more during the day. During a workout, my shirt gets absolutely soaked as opposed a bit damp like before. Even at rest, like sitting at my desk, I'll start perspiring without much effort.
I've made no changes to my diet or routine otherwise. Is this common with cold showers?

If your goal is to wake up in your morning shower, then you need to make a 90-second tweak.
Once you’ve finished your normal cleaning ritual, crank the nozzle as cold as it goes, and stand under the water for about 30 seconds. Feel free to gasp or scream if it helps (some say it does).
After 30 seconds, turn the water up as hot as you can stand for another 30 seconds. This opens up the capillaries, increases blood flow and provides an all-around sense of stimulation.
Finally, cap it off with one more cycle of icy cold. Always end on cold.
You might be asking, “Why would I put myself through such discomfort first thing in the morning?” Because it works.

When I first started or when the showers are really cold I have to talk shit to the water like I'm about to start a school yard brawl. I'm all like "What bitch, you aint got shit on me!"

I will only take cold showers in the summer when it is 100+ outside. At that temperature nothing feels too cold water wise and a hot shower is not only a waste but pointless. In Texas you can take a lukewarm shower and come out still sweating. That is why I will take em cold in the summer time.

I did the cold shower today. It took me about 5-6 minutes compared to my normal 15-20 (depending on if I'm thinking about something)
I definitely felt more energetic and even a little more motivated.
I used to go out into the Pacific ocean in the winter when I lived in Long Beach. I'd just gotten cleared for rehab after knee surgery and I used to walk up and down the steps that led to the beach and wrap it up by spending a minute in the water.
I know there's benefits to cold showers I just hated them so thanks for this thread, it motivated me to do them.

I don't know how guys do this everyday?
When I am tired or ready to sleep I don't want to be psyching myself up. I can only do this every now and then and not when I'm showering at night.

I live in New York and have been taking cold showers for about ten days. I can last ten minutes under what I think is forty degree water. One major benefit is that I can go outside during our current winter weather without a jacket - just my typical khakis, undershirt, and dress shirt.
The two things that get me through it are: (1) imagining almost everyone I've ever known trying to cold shower, and failing miserably, and (2) humming the Veldt theme song from Final Fantasy VI.
I also have weak lower back muscles, which I'm strengthening through Convict Conditioning. Some days, I'll shiver so hard in the shower that I feel those back muscles getting a good workout.

Cold showers during a hangover are definitely great. Sometimes I will completely forget my hangover at all and don't feel like I have one anymore for at least 10 minutes after the cold shower. Then, sometimes it may slowly come back during the day.

I dont take them every single time now any more either... Like you mentioned if its late at night I just take a luke warm shower. Or sometimes I just dont have it in me to take a cold shower so I take very mildly warm showers.
I havent had a hot hot shower in awhile... but after taking brrrr cold showers when you take a remotely warm shower it feels hot

I feel euphoric after jumping out of a 3 minute icy cold shower. What works for me is playing some music that pumps me up while I'm turning the water from hot to freezing.
I've done it intermittently over the past few years, I find it difficult to do consistently though.
I'm going to commit to making this a habit over the next 30 days, every morning and after workouts.
