I thought it was the worst country in the Balkans personally.

Why?

I really didn't like the people, biggest bunch of rude, dishonest and unfriendly people I've ever met. Hate to generalise but non stop someone was being disrespectful, trying to short change or overcharge me, unwilling to help etc. I didn't find any of the places I visited very interesting or exciting and had a much better time in Bosnia, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia etc.

Not my experience at all - oh well

Have not been to any of the other countries you mentioned so can't make a comparison

i actually thought the people were great. you have to talk to them first and if ask about their country but if you do that most of them are very opening and helpful.

I think I prefer Bulgaria over Serbia, but my buddy prefers Serbia over Bulgaria. Serbia seems to have a bit more night life, which is saying a lot because the nightlife is also good in Sofia. Overall, I think Serbia and Bulgaria are pretty similar. One thing surprised me about Bulgaria is that the women have really nice breasts.

And there is absolutely no problem with gaming the early to mid 20s Bulgarian girls in English alone? Assuming you have game of course.

a high percentage of them speak English. not all, but most. keep in mind a great portion of their music and entertainment (movies, TV) are based out of the US. i met a girl whose favorite show was sex and the city.

I would have been happy to talk to them about their country if they'd even be willing to have a conversation with me, most of them were so abrupt and arrogant. Saying that went to a couchsurf meet up in a bar and was plenty of friendly locals there, it was just the rest of the general population that was the problem.

Different vibe. I guess you wouldn't get along with Russians as well.
Now you know why I don't stay in hostels.

You still going on about this hostel debate? And it actually doesn't explain at all why you don't stay in hostels...but don't bother to I'm bored of it.

Dating sites have been spoiled long ago in Bulgaria. They are free and every horny teenager has internet at home so he shoots hundreds of messages to all female online profiles with something like "wanna fuck?"
The girls can't even read everything in their inboxes.

Facebook might work, friend some girls in Sofia and tell them when you are visiting and ask what places they recommend you hang out at, then ask them to hang out with you.

Everytime I get ready for a trip, I hit this forum, and yall never let me down. We're planning a New Year's trip to Sofia; 3 African Americans, tall, good looking, military and staying for 6 days. What's your view on females in this city now in 2012, especially during a Winter holiday? We usually pull everywhere we go, but still anticipating that hidden gem of a city.. regarding females of course.

A black girlfriend of mine flew from London to Sofia to see me and I can practically guarantee you that you will be the only black people that you will see your entire stay in Sofia.

Nothing to worry about though, she did not experience any racism at all, just mild curiousity.

As far as the women here, I have no clue how they would react to black dudes as I have never even seen a black dude in Sofia before.

For sure you will have the exotic factor going for you though. I guess you just have to find girls that are into that.

Check out Sugar Club - it is hip-hop themed and should have girls who are into brothers.

I've only been once or twice and I guess it must have been an off night - there wasn't a big crowd and I did not stay long. But it's pretty close, even walking distance from other clubs downtown so it's worth to check it out quickly.

Exotic factors and racism are both over-rated. Most times they either off set each other, or they are very minor that is not relevant.

Of course there are a few exceptions: Spanish dudes in Poland - exotic factor; Colored guys in Russia - racism

when I was in Sofia I was hanging out with a bunch of Marines who were stationed at the US Embassy to protect in case it was ever attacked and a few of them were black and pretty much cleaned up. I dont think racism will be a problem. There will be a bit of an exotic factor because there aren't alot of blacks there. If you are well dressed and stylish you should do quite well.

Man, this sounds like a sweet job! Unlike Iraq or Afghanistan, or even first-world countries like Spain or England, there has not ever been a terrorist attack in Bulgaria, at least for the last 20 years that I can remember.
You'd basically scratch your balls at your job all day, and enjoy the cheap nightlife after that with Uncle Sam's $$$.

I would have reenlisted for "embassy booty" (duty). Lol. It is the pinnacle of Marine Corps billets. Then again, being somewhere like Sophia I'd probably lost rank...but had a hella time doing it.

K-man, are the chicas there still dressing like 80's big hair band girls?

yeah the guys really enjoyed it. basically every US Embassy has marine guards and they were in a program were they went to 3 countries for a year each. It was completely hit or miss. You could end up in Sofia with 3k in spending money a money banging Eastern Europeans and living like a king or you could end up in a country in Africa where 10% of the population had HIV.

I'm curious to how the nightlife scene is there. I'm a musician and I have a contact out in Sofia, I really want to get out there to do a show but he keeps telling that the music scene is too over saturated with bs (a la the states). I have a hard time believing this but my contact was born and bred in Sofia. I know all too well about Bulgarian women, hidden gems. I grew with a bunch of them out here in NY.

Agreed....but to be honest any colour is an advantage in Bulgaria. Last time I went I pulled an amazing Bulgarian Playboy Front Cover (two editions [Image: banana.gif]) - I don't know how I did it...[Image: icon_question.gif]

Lovely people, love the night life, just wished they would knock down some of those hideous old commi blocks, but no big deal.

The Playboy model I pulled was Zlati Dimitrova - click here or http://www.topmodel.bg/Zlato Google her (but turn safesearch off) - 8/9 - I say.....nice, fun girl, we went out about 5 times and just partied and got wasted. [Image: wink.gif]

Plus there are a couple of photos of other two other BG cuties I "met". [Image: wink.gif]

See below....(I'm the tanned-dude)..(Zlati photos 1st)
